Spoke to a mate of mine yesterday.

First time I have spoke to him since the big one on Sat night/Sun morning.
My mate wasn't there(unlike myself), but is a pretty big Boxing fan, trains down the local gym and his family has a fighting tradition. All in all, he fancies himself as knowing a bit about the game.

He said to me..." I felt sorry for Enzo. Afterall, he was the Cruiserweight Champion and has been for some time, then Haye just sheds two stone, comes down and bangs him out, proving his reign doesn't mean much..."

I swear, I have never laughed so hard in all my life.
This is completely genuine.

Needless to say, he bought tickets to Hatton/Lazcano, citing it would be "another great Hatton war and very rarely do you get to see one of the worlds greatest ever fighters fight"...I kid you not and is now missing a mates wedding on the strength of it...

I have a terrible feeling, his views mirror those of the "average" punter.

I know non-boxing fans who were wondering what all the fuss was about with 'this Ricky Hatton', so they bought the Mayweather PPV and were absolutely shocked at how shit he was, wondering how on Earth he can talk such big words and get such big attention. They expected him to be super-special, like an even better version of a boxing version of Wayne Rooney and David Beckham combined.

He was mentioning himself alongside Ali, Roberto Duran, Tommy Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard and a prime Tyson on Parkinson.

I got some non-boxing fans to order the Collazo and Urango PPV's (after Hatton promised he'd be a better welter than light-welter and how frightening he'd be, and that you'd see the lb4lb most exciting fighter walking the face of the planet, etc), and got plenty of stick, them telling me what a load of rubbish it was.

For fecks sake mate, listen to you, you sound fecking arrogant, just cos you post on here with the rest of armchair pundits it doesnt mean that the rest of the public dont have a right to enjoy the entertainment as they percieve it. If it is was up to the boxrec posters there would only be about two fighters in thw whole fecking world worth watching! Boxing is fecking boxing, its entertainment. Im also going to the Hatton fight and im not a Hatton fan, just fancy watching a boxing match and experiencing his first comeback after the KO. Both your mates comments were made about two ex world champions, the lad was perfectly right to make the compliments he did. very few fighters get to the level of Enzo and Hatton, and they deserve credit.

Hold on, did you not read what was said about the Enzo/ Haye fight?

I think Enzo is a quality fighter, and I love Hatton and regard him as one of the worlds top 15 p4p guys. In his pomp, he was top 5. I never insulted either fighter. They are both top level operators, and if I didn't have prior commintments, would havejoined my mate at the Hatton/Lazcano fight probably.

My irk was with his view of the Haye/ Enzo bout, and how Fwanky uses his weekly newspaper slot to fool certain punters!
