Tommy Morrison Vs Mike Tyson 1996

Post by Robinson »

Lets say this fight that was on the cards was actual made to take place.

The money was no doubt right and both guys, past there best, but still very capable are looking for another shot at the bigger time.

Tyson having won the WBA and WBC titles from Seldon and Bruno is looking to be the undisputed king again. A fight against Holyfield has been post poned until 1997. Tyson must defend and Morrison has the money to bring Tyson into the ring.

Morrison in this scenario has not being diagnosed with HIV...yet...and then rto be misdiagnosed later. Has just recently beaten a still handy Ruddock and a not so great Rhodes. He has also just loss a one sided beating to Lennox Lewis.

The principles

Tommy Morrison - 6'2, 227lb

Mike Tyson - 5'11, 220lb

Who do you pick and how do you see it playing out ?

Tyson.

He was not the fighter he'd been pre-prison, but he still was much more durable and better conditioned than Morrison ever was . . .fun while it lasts.

A '96 Tyson? This one isn't even close. Morrison has no business being in the same ring.

Tyson KO4/5/6.

while Morrison was no Buster Mathis, Jr or Peter McNeeley or even a Bruce Seldon or a one eyed Frank Bruno...I dont think his chances would have been good in this fight...I'd say it would go five-six rounds...but Morrison did show me in fights with Lewis and Hipp that he could take a punch [he kept getting up didnt he?] and he showed improvements.

Still, I think Tyson been too viscous. But it would have been a wildly exciting contest for sure while it lasted...Tyson's right uppercuts vs Morrison's left hook...the mind reels :box:

Morrison couldn't handle Mercer, Tyson would murder Morrison in three rounds.

Tyson may not have been the same fighter who tore through the HW division in the late 1980's, but he still had great power & handspeed.

What Tyson lost post-prison was more to do with defense, head movement, a consistant jab, etc.

Mike was still highly conditioned in 1996 & would have got to Morrison early. I also think Morrison would have been psyched-out before the fight actually started.

Tyson would have probably got Morrison out of there within four rounds. Too fast, sharp, & powerful for Tommy in my view.

I think that this is fun while it lasts, but Tyson has that much more power and skill over the banging Morrison.

A fun, exciting but brief fight.

Tyson TKO 4.

Tyson Wins easily.

Tyson was not the same Post-Prison, but he was still a solid ranked Fighter who could still beat anyone on a good day.

Tyson wins KO within 4/5 rounds

I'm far from a nutty Tysonite, and as fun as Morrison was i'd say Tyson is totally the wrong match up for him (other than financially). Tyson not only had the big 1 shot power but a very good chin also. The type of dynamite shots he planted on Bruno in 96 would get Tommy out of there in quick time, 1 or 2 rds. Tyson was still one of the top dogs back then.

morrison should start this bout going all out, anything could happen, at least it would be exciting. tyson in one. as for tyson-mercer, it would go about the same as morrison-mercer. with tyson absorbing a beating around the mid way point. after seeing mercer vs. lewis and holyfield in 96' i dont think tyson would take that fight

Thing is Morrison never had a Chin and Tyson did..

I seriously think morrison will not last more than 1 or 2 good hits to the face.

Wouldn't surprise me, although my money is on him lasting a few rounds. Frankly I'm amazed this question was even posed.

I'd have to go with Morrison with a 1 round KO.

Ha Ha!! Just kidding......

I think Tyson would eventually win by a TKO or KO. Morrison would go down soon enough, but I do think he would get back up a time or two, before it was all said and done. Damm, it would have been one exciting spectacle!!

There are some who do believe that Tommy Gun would have won at this time. And seeing as this fight may have happened... I thought I would pose the question.

in my Opinion, Etienne would probably have taken Morrison...

And we all know the Tyson that fought Etienne...

Easy victory for "The Duke". Tyson was shot and hardly able to hold his hands up past 3 rounds. Morrision could easly out box him, then begin the relentless assault that would have Tyson on the deck. KO "The Duke" in RD 9 or 10. :box: :box:

Dearest Ringsider,

Thank you kindly for your interest in our fair sport. Unfortunately, it has not worked out. You have failed to grasp even simple aspects of the fight game, which manifests itself with every post you make. It is perhaps time for you to find a new sport to dabble in, one in which you can get a grip on what you're seeing. Pack up your, " :TU: " & your " " & be gone by 5pm this afternoon.

Kind regards,

Someone who knows Larry Holmes had a great jab Image

I told you there were people about the place that figure Morrison to win.

Though most seem to be posters on YouTube beneath one of the thousand Morrison HL clips.

What people? People like Ringsider, who roll their eyes at the mention Holmes & Liston had great jabs? Who refer to fighters like Hagler as plodding amateurs? Who needs 'em? Tommy, maybe, but no one else
