Also in his fights between Reid and Lockett Kelly lost once (SHOT???) on points to Travis Simms who himself then fought for the WBA title last year..... its not like he'd been fighting bums in the meantime himself...
I think Kelly's record is a good one and he was only 32 when he fought Gary not like a "Howard Clarke" fight is it....

He's accounted for about half of this threads post count, lol. Quit winding him up will you guys
Look, Gary has been plucked out of obscurity for this fight in world terms, but I really believe he has a genuine chance. Gary has an excellent chin, he can dig, and he's got alot of heart. Pavlik had better be in top shape!
Also Gary's at a very good gym, and he's getting top sparring with Joe Calzaghe. Joe will prepare Gary well!
My only concern is one of levels, as Gary has no experience boxing at this level. That said I am happier he is fighting Pavlik than Taylor!!
He's a nice guy, and deserves this shot. I for one will be stateside to watch it in person too. For better or for worse!
For the haters..... Please give it a rest. Gary is a nice guy. I cannot think what he could have done to any of you.....
hitman_hatton1 wrote:i can't believe lockett has got this chance tbh. :)
crazy world ain't it.
You shouldn't be that suprised after Rees got his shot against M'baye and pulled off upset of the year considering the level they were competing at.
Pavlik won't last long as champ anyway, not saying Gary will win but he will last the distance, he likes to box while Pavlik's more a tear up type fighter.
Lockett has a faint punchers chance and that's being kind. He's simply not world class and his only real chance is if Pavlik really takes him lightly. Even then I don't think he's in with much of a shout.
Actually the people who sit and imagine/daydream scenario's where Gary's is discussing his embarassment with US TV or crying during interviews need serious counselling for the inferiority complexes they have... Oh Yeah Search thats you isn't it... you cowardly bellend...
For gods sake get a fornicating grip on things: punchers chance (when someone has proven one punch concusive punch power) isn't exactly claiming that person is odds on favourite... sit down you tool and stop trying to be a smart ass because you clearly haven't got a clue about boxing...
You my numb skull young friend clearly have a problem with Gary individually rather than his boxing to be saying the things you are saying, either that or you are a mindless yank fan on here for the wind up.....

Wind your neck in ......
you fool pavlik would laugh at locketts "one punch concussive power!" just like tsarenko did. who has he shown this mega power against on world level?
Taylor Isn't a puncher and had Pavlik down, Taylor couldn't even drop Light Middles.

Kevin Kelly you knob jockey... can't you read? ranked No4 by WBA and never been down in his career (at that time) with his only losses coming to title challengers and Lockett bombed him out with one shot....
Re Tsarenko - he broke his hand in the 3rd round of that fight and fought a split decision.... hmmmmm you know your boxing don't you.... In the rematch Gary boxed his head off UD'd him and made him look stupid.....

thats your "proof"
you're even dumber than you come across
This is boxing there is no "proof" you dumb fornicate... even if Gary had chinned all the top 10 except Pavlik he could still lose on any given night... and equally Gary has the power to take out Pavlik with one shot...
Re being dumb - why don't you let the rest of the forum give you their opinion because I'm sure they agree with me that you are just a sad idiot with mental issues and too much spare time on your hands...
I bet you are one of those sad cases on 2nd Life with a virtual girlfriend....twat...
Search, What is your problem? You seem to want to run Gary Locket down with a passion. Are you a child? Get over whats really bothering you.
I even bet this subject is in control of your life, I mean your acting as if you hate the guy.
He has got a shot, some may wish him the best and hopes he does it, some may not wish him the best and feel he doesnt deserve the shot,
either way..........Just let it go, stress is not good for you

I wouldn't go so far to say Lockett is a bum, you may believe he wont beat Pavlik, he may or may not but a bum? No.
Are you search's mate? You guy's seem to dislike Lockett with a passion.
Have an opinion yes, believe he will lose yes, but to be so ruthless in your opinion is not normal really unless you are children or are a little bitter and twisted. It's obvious guy's like you would never have the balls to step in the ring because even if you thought someone was no good at all you go round saying they are a BUM.
For you most probley the nearst you get to hitting anything is when you punch down on the key board,
would like to see if you got the balls to go and tell Lockett he's a BUM to his face

Lockett has been beaten at domestic level. Hes jumping up about 20 levels here. Chris is saying he can take pavlik out with one punch when pavlik has CLEARLY taken punches off bigger punchers than Lockett (YES TAYLOR IS, NOT TO MENTION MIRANDA).
Facts are facts, get off your highhorse and accept them
I'm not asking you to buy into the theory of whether he can or can't win I'm asking you not to be such a mean spirited shit bag with how you are expressing what you think...
I think saying I think he can "take him out with one shot" is a slight twisting of the truth if you read my posts as I'm not suggesting he'll walk in and floor with one shot. What I am saying (and I'm not alone) is that he has the power if he catches him = thats it.... I don't see anything wrong with that and if you disagree then fine but don't wish the guy ill because thats just retarted..... the stuff you said on the Q&A post about the interview is just beyond local repair, get to the doctors son you've got tissues... LOL>..

The man's got a point Chris........ stop getting yourself so easily wound up, go and suck your tea through a time-out, or at least have yourself a kit-kat, and return here with a little more poise and eloquence! The forum will be a better place for it!
Welsh puncher Gary "The Rocket" Lockett challenges American puncher Kelly "Ghost" Pavlik for the WBO and WBC middleweight titles at the legendary Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on June 7.
The burly Cwmbran man, trained by Enzo Calzaghe out of Newbridge, is the WBO No. 1 contender but he faces a daunting assignment against the hugely popular Pavlik, who enjoys big TV and promotional backing and can back it up. Pavlik won his titles with a thrilling come-from-behind stoppage of the previously unbeaten Jermain Taylor at the Boardwalk Hall last September. Taylor, who had deposed the great Bernard Hopkins and licked Pavlik in the amateurs, dropped him heavily in the second round and looked well in control when Pavlik pulled out a big right in the seventh to force a sensational stoppage. In a more competitive rematch earlier this year in Las Vegas, Pavlik again piled it on from the middle rounds to take a unanimous decision and his 33rd straight win (a whopping 29 early). The strong, dangerous, composed, indomitable champion staggered Taylor in the 11th.
A 6ft 3ins resident of Youngstown, Ohio, Pavlik stopped rugged Colombians Fulgencio Zuniga and Edison 'Pantera' Miranda to secure the Taylor shot and has been compared to Thomas Hearns, given his build and style and possibly his chin. Pavlik uses the jab to drive through straight right after straight right but was down in the first round against Zuniga and one or two punches from defeat after that knockdown against Taylor, although he paid both back with avengeance and looks to get stronger as a fight progresses. Zuniga was pulled out with a horrible gash over his right eye at the end of the ninth (Pavlik was ahead on all three cards); Taylor dropped to his knees in a corner from that concussive right - 'gone'.
In fairness to Pavlik, Zuniga and Taylor could probably hit and hurt anyone (Zuniga went on to demolish Russian dangerman Victor Oganov), and Pavlik took some terrific whacks off the heavy-handed Miranda before overwhelming him in real style in seven rounds.
"This kid is the real deal," said charismatic Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini (also from Youngstown) of Pavlik. "He can be a champion in two or three weight classes."
The champion is filling out at 25 and might struggle to get back down to the middleweight limit of 11st 6lbs after coming in at 11st 10lbs for Taylor last time out at catchweight (Pavlik still looked pretty gaunt). Tell Lockett about it. He used to struggle desperately to make light-middleweight. His only defeat (in 30 fights) came at the weight against Belarussian Yuri Tsarenko six years ago in Cardiff (a split decision after 12 gruesome rounds). Lockett immediately moved up and cruised to a 10-round decision over Tsarenko in a rematch and has built up a nice winning run of 14 going into this, although he swapped knockdowns with Sheffield's Ryan Rhodes on the way to a close but unanimous decision in a 12-rounder in Cardiff in 2006 (Rhodes had challenged for the WBO middleweight title some years earlier). He linked up with top trainer Calzaghe shortly afterwards.
Lockett, 31 and having his first fight outside Europe, lacks top-flight experience and has a history of busting up but his chin is solid (despite the Rhodes knockdown, which was one of those 'temple' shots) and he hits hard with both hands. Gary demolished top Aussie Kevin Kelly in four rounds in his light-middleweight days and blasted Londoner Gilbert Eastman in the first round just prior to the Rhodes struggle. His last two opponents have been despatched in some style.
Clearly, both Pavlik and Lockett are proven punchers (50 stoppages between them), so we can expect plenty of action and excitement, but Pavlik has fought (and hurt) the better men and on the bigger stage and that gives him the obvious edge. As well as Taylor (first time), Zuniga and Miranda, Pavlik has also stopped the likes of Bronco McKart, Jose Luis Zertuche and Grady Brewer.
Unless weightmaking plays a part, or Lockett is sorely undervalued, one has to fancy the big-time American to come through.

eloquence? I'm not objecting to the notion of Lockett being beaten/being the underdog etc etc I am objecting to (and once again I'm not alone) is him being called a "bum", being ridiculed or lambasted with cruel jokes Please see the 'Lockett Q&A' thread where old searchy-boy - my cross dressing young sports writer friend discusses Lockett crying in a post fight interview...thats hardly becoming of the sport we are talking about is it... ?

Nicely put!!
Chris, just chill out! Ignore Search, he's a cock. The beauty of this forum, is there are loads of good guys who DO know alot about boxing, many of them have posted in this very topic. Try chatting to them rather than fixating on the opinions of a two-bit cock-jockey.
Gary will stand or fall alone in June, so all this arguing is pointless.
