You wouldn't expect anything classy from the mouth of Calzaghe, Sr., but damn, he really does sound a little delusional here. I HOPE Enzo Maccarinelli bounces back and wins his title again, but they really need to address WHY Enzo M got blasted last Saturday - the cold, hard truth - and not offer feeble excuses to make them both feel better. Too much of that Enzo C/Enzo M relationship is based on false confidence - they need some reality now.Enzo Maccarinelli will be back this week. He had a bad turn, he's licked his wounds and he'll come back harder, stronger and better. A defeat doesn't have to be the end, it could be the beginning of your life. He wasnt hurt technically.
I'd rather it have gone that way than him been involved in a 12-round war. There is no physical damage like there would have been in a long battle. The only thing hurt is his pride.
He'll be back and start kicking arse big time. We'll adjust to the mistakes he made. He's come to terms with it. There's no one to blame but himself. He won't do that again.
I was 28-0 in world title fights, every good bubbles got to burst. I'm not God, there's only one God and he's up there.
No boxer or trainer's immortal. As long as we did our job right, when it comes down to business its down to the fighters.
All this said, Haye did nothing for me to change my views on him. It wasnt his performance that counted it was Enzo's performance. He was only as good as Enzo made him look.
He answered no questions to me. He only threw four punches himself a round. Four whole punches.
Lets be honest about it, this hot property: B*******.
I think the same of him as I did before. If Enzo went 12 rounds with the guy he would have destroyed him.
He didnt get a chance to show it because he did what he did wrong.
You can't judge what Haye is all about from that fight. It took him five big straight rights to deck Enzo.
Now you think he is going to be fighting 17 stone guys. It will take a lot more to put them down.
Lets not look too much . If thats 12 rounds as Maccarinelli can fight, as he does all the time, that greatest thing since sliced bread wouldn't be around today.
He won fair and square but lets not get carried away because enzo underperformed.
It wont be hard to get Enzo over this. He's a very positive character. He believes in his ability and he wont blame anyone. He knows a true Enzo would have done a job on this guy.
It could be lots of things, I'm not going to question what this was. He said straight afterwards: 'The thing I was asked to do I didnt do'. He will be back. Hopefully we can get him back in the beginning of June and we'll be ready to rumble with Enzo again.
We'll give him a ten-rounder to start with to dust the cobwebs off and then we'll get him straight back fighting for a world title.

Right...but he did the exact same things wrong against Braithwaite, Hobson, Dominguez, Azzaoui, and on and on. He was just never made to pay for it before. Haye was the first world-class fighter he'd faced. Haye and Enzo could fight 100 times and Enzo would make the same 'mistakes' (bad habits) each and every time.WildWaylon wrote:Big Enzo did do things wrongly, thats a fact. They knew Haye would be looking for an early finish and Enzos defense, or lack of it, gave Haye the win. Its over the two will never fight again so Enzo must move on now.
I'm split on who I WANT to win Calzaghe/Hopkins. Keep jumping back and forth.

Good job Haye won, because you can just imagine the SN gloating and daft press releases they'd have been firing out for the last week -
Big Enzo proves he's the hardest punching fighter of all time
Big Macc calls out Holyfield to put up or shut up etc etc
Instead, for the last week, SN have been very, what's the word?......quiet

I was pretty suprised how honest he was. I was expecting lucky punch crap, but he was the nicest he's been about Haye. Maybe a press release about a new partnership is to follow shortly.Lenny wrote:I saw Frank's piece in the Sun whilst waiting in the barbers on Saturday, he was very complimentary of Haye and said he was wrong. I find it amusing how Enzo C and Enzo M harp on about punches-per-round as if throwing more than Haye would somehow win them the fight. A ridiculous idea beforehand and an even more stupid comment now. If it only takes Haye five punches a round to demolish Maccarinelli, that says more about Haye's power and accuracy and Enzo M's punch resistance than anything else.Terry D wrote:There is opinion and plain stupidity.Max Molyneux wrote:Nothing wrong with having his opinion.
It's not liking he's calling Haye a disgrace literally.
He says Haye only landed 5 rights to finish, yet was only throwing 4 shots a round. Did one right hand get put on layaway for the finish?
The only way Enzo could go 12 with Haye is if they fought 6 times.
Besides, just how many punches did Enzo C expect Maccarinelli to throw in this fight? Big Mac's petrified stance and reluctance to let even a jab go (in fear of what was coming back) didn't bode well for Enzo C's 100 punches per round masterplan.

So you expect him to say perfectly to say throwing 5 shots a round as well?Terry D wrote:There is opinion and plain stupidity.Max Molyneux wrote:Nothing wrong with having his opinion.

There is giving your guy a boost and being an awful loser. Enzo may need to taste defeat again in order to obtain humility.
The chief mistake was fighting a better fighter, fighting a list of inferior boxers, and not correcting basic flaws that have been there since the Hobson bout.
Then again, Enzo Mac is the new Lennox Lewis isn't he?
The only way It goes twelve If Haye's right Is neutralised as he's reliant on that and If they don't bowl over so easily he's made to work harder for the win.
He wasn't that much of an awful loser, he was just skeptical about Haye's chances at HW as they won't bowl over easily as they are used to taking heavy shots.
Chief mistake I thought was he went back too much Instead of staying closer and taking the distance away that Haye needs to effectively throw his big rights he blasts people out with. I think he might be open to an uppercut as he goes forward trying to blast with his big right too but I would have to see a fighter try It to be sure.
Then again Morris Isn't flat footed Isn't he?
Warren did say that he's doubtful about Haye at heavywweight, because after all he knocked out a cruiserweight on Saturday. So here we can see that he is infering that Haye maybe piled on masses of weight post weigh in and had an unfair advantage over Mac.bridportboxer wrote:I was pretty suprised how honest he was. Interestingly Haye said he only weighed about 203/14 st, 7lbs on the night. But I think SN would like to have it that Haye was the 16 st that Buncey told Setanta news he would be. At least I think it would have been a handy excuse, but now they have none that are anywhere near credible.
Basically, Enzo Macca let Haye land his best power shots, to prove to the world how bad things can be when you don't follow Enzo Calzaghe's game plans. About as daft as RJJ saying he lost to Tarver III so his father wouldn't get all the credit.
IMO Enzo Cal fighters have been spoiled on WBO title defenses.

I am not surprised by Enzo Calzaghe's response. His pride seemed more hurt than Macca's who I feel knew he was in over his head as the fight drew closer. Haye beat Macca because Haye is miles better and in a different league.Eraserhead wrote:http://www.setantasports.com/en/Blogs/A ... log-space/

I think Enzo Calzaghe is overrated generally on the basis of how good JC is. But when it comes down to it Joe Calzaghe is so good he doesnt need anyone in the corner, he could train himselff and win the fights tending to his own corner.
Cunningham would starch Enzo too.

top trainer though
Maybe SKY should use him as a pundit complete with subtitles.
I make him 2-1 (IBF Lacy, WBC/WBA Kessler against the WBC/WBA Haye loss).
The rest are clutching at straws a bit, ain't they? Pudwill, Mkrtchian, Mafredo, Veit, Salem, Ashira, Jiminez, Giminez, Thornberry, Sobot, McIntyre...wow. Even Rees-MBaye is stretching it a bit.
