TV Schedule

Post by Autobarn »

Some good stuff over the next couple of months. Including Jackson Asiku back on these shores. Regular boxing now thanks to an extra competitor, Setanta, showing some dedication to boxing. Sky are hardly inactive, either. Not many US fights picked up thus far; hopefully that will change.

APRIL

Fri 18 Woolcombe-Rhodes (Sky)
Sat 19 Calzaghe-Hopkins (Setanta)
Fri 25 Wayne Elcock-Darren McDermott OFF (Sky), REPLACEMENT FOR THIS SHOW?

MAY/JUNE/JULY

Fri 2 May - Rendall Munroe-Salem Bouaita (Sky)
Sat 3 May - Guzman-Arthur (Setanta)
Sat 3 May - De la Hoya-Forbes (Sky)
Fri 9 May - David Barnes-Barry Morrison (Sky?)
Sat 10 May - Witter-Bradley, Froch-Inkin, Murray-Fewkes (ITV1 & 4)
Fri 23 May - Andrew Facey-Thomas McDonagh (Sky) Canceled?
Fri 30 May - Darren Barker-Kofi Jantuah (most likely Sky if it's a go-ahead)
Sat 24 May - Ricky Hatton-Juan Lazcano (Sky)
Sat June 1 - Shane Mosley-Zab Judah (Sky)
Fri June 6 - John Simpson-Paul Appleby (Sky)
Sat June 7 - Kelly Pavlik-Gary Lockett (Setanta TBC)
Fri 13 June - Tony Oakey-Dean Francis (Sky)
Fri 20 June - Mark Hobson-Rob Norton 2 (Sky?)
Fri 27 June - Esham Pickering-Matthew Marsh (Sky)
Fri 25 July - Jon Thaxton-Lee Meager II (Sky - SURELY POSTPONED DUE TO THAXTON'S CUT)

Please add corrections/info/thoughts/opinions if necessary

Has Frank W ditched Francis?

dunno. The Board mandated it yesterday I believe, and on the BoxRec schedule it says Sky are broadcasting.

Good opponent for Francis is Oakey. I think a lot of the things that Haye shows in the ring, Francis was capable of in his prime. Haye is the classiest boxer we've had since Deano, IMHO.

Good to see Francis on TV again. Was his last fight any worst than Haye-Abdoul? Not much, and we forgive Haye for that. Hope to see Francis cleaning up domestically with some sharp performances.

Also, I am glad Asiku is due back on these shores.

Just to let you TV fans know that I'll be running a series of features on BBN over the next four weeks which include interviews with the top men from the top four British channels.

That sounds like a great idea, Ian. Will be interesting to hear what the corporate top brass say.

Tell the BBC that if they start putting boxing on TV I may start paying my license fee. In the meantime I am not forking out when their sport coverage amounts to disabled blokes playing conkers, with non-gonad looking conkers only of course, they probably don't want to upset the Dykes, Greg and his family that is.

They could also do with cancelling Eastenders and giving Max 'Jimmy S' Branning his own show in which he shags every woman he comes into contact with, it could be called 'How does he do that?'.

I'd also suggest that getting a "trendy" person onto 'Question Time' each week is not working out, as Alex James showed recently. We should also tell the alleged producer who put that Keeley one into 'Ashes to Ashes' that he may have got some casting couch joy but the rest of us are having to suffer for it. She defines the phrase 'fit but shit'. But thanks for Gene Hunt.
Thanks, Terry. Your agenda will certainly make for a coherent interview.

Head of BBC Sport is a fella called Roger Mosey and he came across as a really classy bloke.

You'd think now is an ideal time because UK fighters are doing so well and at least 3 of them are winning at the highest level.

This is the BBC, they do not do populist. Apart from 'Hey look at this fat American bitch struggling to get off the toilet' type shows, they provide a rich social commentary.

Boxing should be on the BBC. It is one of the few things the British are good at right now. Why not show it?
I don't even watch TV anymore apart from the fights. I did record part 1 of The Fixer because it had the excellent Peter Mullan in it, but haven't even watched that yet.

There's probably some PC, non violent patronising wanker agenda going on. I think ppl love saying "ugh..boxing, it's like too violent".

Anything that ppl think Sky and Setanta are missing?

Noticed that Sky picked up Hatton-Lazcano. I've added Froch-Inkin rescheduled May 3 or 10.

Any upcoming European fights they want Eurosport to pick up?

On the same broadcast, Sky are also showing delayed coverage of Casamayor-Katsidis. Shame it's not live, but still glad we're getting to see it.

What was that weird channel Peter-Maskaev allegedly turned up on? Is it only on the Virgin platform?

No, I saw it on Sky channel 194 - Ben TV (I think it's a Nigerian channel). When I was alerted to the fact it was being shown, I tuned in to find the Diaz-Campbell battle was already in the eighth round. The complete Peter-Maskaev fight then ensued. An unexpected bonus following the Setanta broadcast of the O2 show, although the picture quality did leave a lot to be desired: it was somewhere between monochromatic and very faded colour. The commentary was by Colonel Bob Sheridan.

Also added Arthur and Lockett's fights. It's a no brainer which channel will pick up those 2 cards!
