Well done Carl + Huge respect for Rothman!!

Post by JimStone »

Sebastian Rothman took defeat like a proper man, what a blinding bloke. No excuses, no bullshit, just the truth, that needs to be praised by all.

I'm chuffed to bits for Thompson, we all know he's a warrior and he proved it to us again, never say never. Awesome.

Well done to Maurice aswell.

Rematch in South Africa is what should happen next.

Huge respect to both men.

I've not often given Carl Thompson much respect, always found him a bit limited but whatever last night was awesome, huge heart and incredible courage, well done Cat!

Yes, much respect to both me. I'm not sure Carl was being entirely truthful with his "I was just letting him come on to me" the fight was to close to being stopped (Rothman's way) for me to believe that. But full respect, what heart, what determination, what a punch.

I hope Thompson's get's Rothman's promised shot at Mormeck for a "proper" title. He deserves a host of pay days following that performanced. Even if he loses to Mormeck, there will always be a return with Rothman, if he loses to the rematch - then there is Haye. Three good pay days.

Agreed with FG view on Rothman, what a good bloke. He'll be back I'm sure.

I thought Rothmann was holding back alot!

At various times he looked far superior to Thompson and I feel could have finished him.

That said, that was one of the best knockout punches I have seen. The way Rothmann landed was comical.

It was very satisfying to wipe that stupid grin off his face. Nothing annoys me more than boxers who talk and laugh when fighting especially against a respected opponent and in a title fight!

At least he redeemed himself a little in the post-match interview!

I was there at ringside, and let me tell you now,Carl was seconds away from being stopped, he had balls the size of fornicating watermelons, and that is one of the most amazing turnarounds EVER!

Rothmann is a wanker, standing there throwing bolo punches and mocking carl, what a fornicating pudendum! His corner were roaring at him to stop fornicating around, and he got his bastard comeuppance.

Carl was exhausted and hurt, and he summoned every single ounce of his strength to land a punch which would have killed a horse. Rothman was still on wobbly legs 5 minutes later in his corner.

Go carl, what a fornicating warrior, the man has the heart of a lion,

Carl didn't seem to think so - he says it was a tactical.

i watched it again earlier, Richie Davies was having a very good look. Even when he was sent to th neutral corner, while Rothman was struggling to beat the count, Carl's legs were very shaky, and when his corner team came in, jumping all over him he wasn' very steady.

I was watching it last night, off my face, and i couldn't believe what was happening. Such a shock.

Put your hands back in your pockets and stop pretending you know what you're talking about, the guy had respect for Carl throughout, they were touching gloves at the end of nearly every round, the 'mocking' is all part of his game, the pair of them were - in the bordeline sadistic way that some fighters do - loving it in there, and their mutual admiration for each other was clearly evident.

To call Rothman 'a fornicating pudendum' is well out of line, if that label applies to anyone it's the halfwit who wrote it in the first place, you.

Have a word with yourself.

That really was a miracle punch from nowhere, I don't think I'd want to see someone get hit any harder than that. Amazing the guy even managed to get up.
Carl looked sold out and on his last legs ( much worse than he was at the end of the Nelson fight I think ) and the ref looked just about ready to step in, how he found that punch I'll never know.

Carl was out on his feet..then..!!!KABLAMMO!!!.
I think Rothmann was still dazed during the interview just after, because he went from bieng a bit of a tosser in the ring, to being Kofi Annan out of it.
to maybe add some credit to "the cats" claim that he was inticing SR in, about 10 second before the KO he tried exactly the same the thing but threw an uppercut instead...kind of reminded me of the Battle`s against Eubank.

I must say that as usual i was dubious as always when Inverdale gives his "Don't go to bed early" crap but this time it was for real! I have never been a true Thompson fan but respect is due for his heart and courage, i was not totally convinced by the "I was letting him in" speech either though! He was on the verge of getting stopped, it was one of the most remarkable turnarounds i have ever seen. Credit to Rothmann who i thought was being a bit silly with his taunting and i was urging Carl in to hit him with a big one! But it turned out it was all an act and Rothmann was a true gent after all. And finally....has anyone ever heard Jim Neilly sound so excited?! :D

At least this win backs up Carl's argument that the Nelson stopage was early - it aint over till it's over was never more true!

That's going to be a long plane ride back to S Africa for poor old Rothman now. He must be sitting at the front of the plane sipping brandy, and wondering how the hell he managed to find a way to lose that one.

I wouldn't want to see a rematch to be honest, as Thompson would probably take another long beating, at 40 years of age too.
Though it's true he could well pull it off again.
A Nelson rematch would be a better fight. More money and a slim chance at revenge. More exciting than some of those plodders Nelson has been meeting anyway.

Ok, maybe I got a bit emotional there, I am sure Rothmann is a decent enough fellow, but he looked like an enormous wazzock trying to do a SRL impression, he simply isn't good enough to be taunting his opponent like that.

I didn't get to see the post fight interview as I haven't seen it on tv yet, but it's hard to be cocky when someone has just rogered you up the backside, and left you face down on the canvas with your arse in the air.

Rothmann was getting pretty cold on Carl, and was playing with him the way a cat plays with a moth under it's paw before Carl spanked him up.

I'm sure I was not alone in thinking Rothmann was a bit of a wanker during the fight, in fact I know I wasn't, there were other people who agreed with me at the time. It was looking pretty ugly in there watching Carl get twatted upside the head

As for it being tactical, well I suppose in the sense that Carl knew the only way to win was to land 1 massive punch. However, i don't think it was tactical getting jabbed to death round after round whilst staggering about on wobbly legs. I was amazed Carl was still standing by the 9th round, let alone win by KO, he was so exhausted he could barely muster the strength for more than 5-6 punches a round, and every single jab than landed shook him to his boots.

I really couldn't have more admiration for Carl Thompson, he really gave everthing he had in there.

Interestingly, the IBO judges I spoke to, only had Carl 2 rounds behind before the stoppage, which is pretty remarkable seeing as he was getting jabbed silly in all but 2 rounds, where he could arguably have taken the rounds.

Yep Rothmann was pretty cocky and I'm sure Carl's fans didn't approve but maybe thats just his way of trying to put the other guy off.

At least he was good enough to give praise afterwards, whereas some fighters might just walk back to the dressing room without saying a word.

Much more enjoyable than the Woods fight.

Rothmann always fights like that, ie laughing and joking.
he doesnt mean it disrespectfully as he is a really nice guy as he showed in the interview afterwards. Garry Delaney had nothing but nice things to say about him after they fought in SA last year.

Thompson I think was doing a bit of a rope a dope like he tried on Eubank.

Great finish but I still think Thompson is a danger to himself..

He hardly dodged a punch all night and took a beating... He should retire IMO.

I am a Big Thompson fan but he is gonna end up in a bad way if he doesnt get out ASAP
