quick ITV Froch interview

Post by whiskey »

Image

Q - Your WBC world title eliminator with Denis Inkin
is being screened live on ITV. Does it give you an
extra buzz knowing that the fight will be going out
to such a huge terrestrial audience? YES IT DOES,
ALONG WITH AN EXTRA BIT OF PRESSURE!! LUCKILY I THRIVE
ON PRESSURE SO EXPECT AN EXPLOSIVE COBRA.

Q In just a few fights on terrestrial TV Joe
Calzaghe's profile and popularity went through the
roof and the same can be said of Amir Khan. Are you
hoping for something similar given your TV-friendly
KO style?
MY FIRST 12 OR 13 FIGHTS WERE ON TERRESTRIAL TV AND
IT GAVE MY PROFILE A MASSIVE BOOST. THE VIEWING PUBLIC
WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT ME IM SURE, AS MY STYLE IS
VERY EXCITING.

Q - What are your memories of watching the big
fights on ITV as a kid?
CHRIS EUBANK AND NIGEL BENN, I CAN JUST REMEMBER
EVERYONE WHO'S ANYONE WATCHED!

Q - Inkin is something of an unknown quantity over
here but I'm sure you know all about him. Do you see
this as being potentially your toughest
assignment? STYLES MAKE FIGHTS AND I PERSONALLY FEEL
INKIN IS MADE FOR ME LOOKIN AT HIS LAST 2 FIGHTS. IT
WILL BE TOUGH AS HE HAS NEVER BEEN DEFEATED IN THE PRO
RING BUT IVE BEAT OTHER VERY TOUGH MEN WITH BAD HAND
INJURIES. HENRY PORRAS TKO 8, BRIAN MAGEE KO 11.
BROKEN HAND IN ROUND 4 AND ROUND 2 RESPECTIVELY. IT
DOESNT GET MUCH TOUGHER THAN THAT, I HOPE!!

Q - You are an established pro now with 22 fights.
Who has been the toughest man you have faced to this point? CHARLES ADAMU, ALTHOUGH I MADE HARD WORK OF
IT DUE TO INEXPERIENCE.

Q - You are both quality amateurs. Have your paths
ever crossed in the amateur game or have you ever
sparred before now? YES, INKIN HOLDS A POINTS WIN
OVER ME IN THE AMATEURS ALTHOUGH I HAD HIM DOWN IN THE
LAST ROUND. YOU CAN VIEW THIS ON YOU TUBE.

Q - Talking of sparring, who have you been working
with for this fight? DARREN BARKER AND ANDREW LOWE.

Q - We saw you last time out do a job on Robin Reid.
How pleasing was that win given the problems you had
with your knee in the months leading up to that fight? IT WAS GREAT TO GET THE KNEE INJURY SORTED
AND GET THE FIRST FIGHT BACK OUT OF THE WAY. REID WAS
A FINE CHAMPION AND A GENTLEMAN OUTSIDE THE BOXING
RING.

Q - I know you had mobility problems before the
operation but that all seems sorted now. That must
give you extra confidence in training? ITS NICE TO BE ABLE TO RUN WITHOUT LIMPING, AND NOT
STRESS ABOUT THE KNEE ESPECIALLY WHEN DOING TRACK WORK
& SPRINTING. MY SUNDAY NIGHT FIVE A SIDE IS ON HOLD
FOR NOW.

Q - You have home advantage for the Inkin fight and
I know you are fiercely proud of your Nottingham
roots. How much does it mean to you fighting in the city? IT IS SUCH A BIG DEAL FOR ME TO FIGHT IN MY
HOME TOWN, IVE GOT AMAZING SUPPORT AND IM SO RELAXED
AND CONFIDENT IT HAS TO BE AN ADVANTAGE. NOT TO
MENTION I CAN BE OUT OF MY HOUSE DO THE JOB AND
BE BACK HOME WITHIN A COUPLE OF HOURS!

Q -Provided this one goes well how soon do you
reckon it will be before you are challenging for a
world title? Have you been given any sort of time
scale? WHEN I BEAT INKIN I HOPE TO BE FIGHTING FOR
THE TITLE WITHIN 3 MONTHS. BOXING CAN BE FRUSTRATING
AS THERE CAN BE TO TO LONG A WAIT BETWEEN MATCHES.

Q - With Calzaghe now moving up to light-heavyweight
do you reckon the opportunity to fight him may have gone? NO, I SPOKE TO CALZAGHE LAST WEEK AND HE SAID
IF THE MONEY WAS RIGHT HE WOULD NOT AVOID ME, SO IF HE
STANDS BY WHAT HE SAID THEN ITS ALWAYS POSSIBLE.

Q - I know you respect him as a fighter but in years
to come despite all he has achieved do you still
feel his legacy may be tainted by not fighting you
when you have repeatedly challenged him? IN A WORD,
YES.

Q - Your team Nottingham Forest are doing OK as
well this season. Would a perfect 2008 for you
involve you doing the business in a world title
fight and Forest getting promotion? YOU KNOW IT! I
CAN KEEP MY END SECURE BUT FOREST ARE IN THE HANDS OF
EXCELLENT MANAGER COLLING CALDERWOOD. LETS HOPE THEY
CAN DOMINATE UNDER HIS GUIDANCE AS I DO UNDER THE
BOXING MASTERMIND OF ROBERT MCCRACKEN.

With regards Froch saying he spoke to Joe Calzaghe last week, it was down to ITV man Gabriel Clarke.

He was on the phone to Joe and then Carl asked to speak to him.

Carl basically said look, we spoke briefly some years ago at a boxing dinner and since then it's been contrived press releases.

Are you going to swerve me until you retire or do you think that we'll get it on one day as i know i can beat you.

Joe said that if the money was right he wouldn't avoid fighting Froch.

Then Joe asked how's the weather, did he have a tan yet etc etc (ok i made that last bit up)

Calzaghe never needs to fight Froch, its a pointless match-up. Froch's only chance of ever beating Calzaghe would be to fight him well past his peak, and who wants to witness that?

Only Froch nuthuggers are calling out for this fight, and even their voices are falling onto near deaf ears.

Calzaghe-Froch is the fight the whole public wants to see. Froch fought on BBC on a Friday night, when I was getting in with a Chinese. He told 5 million viewers that he'd "smoke Calzaghe's boots" at Khan-Kindelan II. He told Becks and Henman they couldn't carry his kitbag. And Calzaghe is denying the public this fight, because I said so.

If Froch signed with Waxxen I am sure he would be only to pleased to make the fight once Joe is past his peak. That way he stays with the main man in the division.

Ashira, Bika, Manfredo - why?

Why not 'The Cobra'? The man the entire British nation wanted you to fight.

Nigel Benn was fighting the Ashira's and Bika's after a year or two as a pro. Fucksake.

Joe is grossly over-rated, man. Re-wind three years and Lacy and Kessler weren't even considered worthy even though they were belt-holders, it was all about Glen Johnson. Reid and Beyer were shot to shit, and not even very good to begin with. That fornicating Calzaghe.

Joe doesn't need him, he'd seriously make Froch look like an amateur, would he say to Joe's face Instead of a phone call so we can see how ballsy he really Is?

He's open to timed right hands which means Kessler would smash him too. He ain't Roy Jones to be dropping his hands like that.

He thinks his uppercut would touch Joe but It only lands because he walks through shots staying flat footed so he can use it full power, he looks awful before then.

Hardly the entire nation, only boxrec fans here from what I've read. Not read about Froch In the media that much outside of BBN and Nottingham Newspaper articles.

This ain't like Hatton and Witter.

Froch Is as bad as Steve Collins with his mouth sometimes.

Earth to Molyneux....... Come in Molyneux!!! Earth to Molyneux....... Come in Molyneux!!!

You say Joe doesn't need Froch, which is true, but did he need Manfredo, Bika, Ashira, Salem, Pudwill etcetra? No.

I don't expect JC to choose to fight Froch over B-Hop and the other MEGA-money clashes, but he had ample opportunity to fight Froch instead of fighting Bika and Manfredo and he chose the easy option both times.

Calzaghe-Froch is a fight for the British fans!!
Is JC a Hatton type fighter (although not as bad) or a Haye/Enzo type fighter who fights for the fans?? so far he's proved to be far nearer to the Hatton end of the scale than the Haye/Enzo end, by taking the easier option numerous times.

Earth to Chambers, Calzaghe Is a supernatural and p4p No 1 elite, Froch Is a mediocre big mouth who will be a belt holder at best.

No he didn't need those guys mentioned either but at least Joe's fought some better names now and making up for lost time and proved himself cleaning out 12stone.

Big Mouth Is being brought on slowly and still looking bad fighting washed up Reid who put him off balance with right hands and getting outboxed by Magee.

Froch was offered the fight and turned It down giving no reason why saying It was derisory and pretending Joe was offered 1.6 million. Talk about unrealisticand bs!

A mismatch for the British fans more like some of you are so easy to dupe as the Hatton's proved until Floyd beat him.

Is this the same Joe Calzaghe who was struggling with Sakio Bika and Mikkel Kessler?

The same Joe Calzaghe who looks at the canvas while throwing punches, who squares up with his chin up and gets whacked, and who lately looks like a queer trying to fight his way out of spider webs?

He really hasn't fought anyone since Eubank (Woodhall's arm went in about '94 and Reid was the most flat-footed world champion in history).

Calzaghe knows he maybe can't beat Froch. He has to reach much further than ever to even land on Froch, and when he does he's going to be picked off with strong counters or caught with strong uppercuts, thus reducing the output all-around.

He beat both of them 9 rounds to 3, hardly struggling. Bika was fighting dirty and spoiling.

Kessler was strong and threw a good right but otherwise he was outboxed pretty easily yet people had the fight close.

Kessler would KO Froch with that right hand anyway, Reid's timed one put Carl off balance.

You don't need to use the resume option 100% to see that Joe Is a brilliant boxer.

Calzaghe would of stopped the version of Reid Froch fought.

He doesn't get as whacked as you make out although he takes the odd right hand, they barely touch him when he throws and he times them well. They get too smothered to do much and Bernard will be smothered alot and won't counter much.

Kessler would beat this version of Hopkins too, Tarver Is mediocre and will lose to Woods and Winky was made to come up In weight and Hopkins was still poor. Are you one of those fans who overrate mediocre Americans?

:o :o

Uppercuts way too slow to catch Calzaghe has to be a sneaky straight right. Froch only lands his uppercut when he's taking the opponents shot first and he needs to stay flat footed to put full force Into the shot.

Froch Is troubled by workrate too or looks suspect to being troubled anyway, just that he hit too hard for Dodson for It to show long enough.

You guys are easy to dupe.

Counter puncher! He' tries to pot shot like Floyd and Roy did with the left low and bending back.

Become a Calzaghe fan and your boxing knowledge will be greater than mere mortals In anoraks and pubs. :TU:

Bombing out domestic level fighters don't cut It. His left Is low and open to right hands and Calzaghe's southpaw jab will easily get through If Reid's right hands put him off balance due to that awful stance of Carl's.

Joe will also use that jab to pressure him to the ropes overwhelming Froch with flurries where Carl will be reduced to holding or covering up ending In a Calzaghe Tko signature style. :TU:

Joe's pace Is superior to keep It up too.

Froch will win a title at 12st when Joe vacates but only a title he won't be undisputed.

Ducking Bute suggests he ain't as good as he thinks, why beat on Tatesvosyan when Bute did It less then 2 months earlier than Carl did?

I have no superiority complex on the Internet only against real live people who piss me off. I may come off that way I guess though.

I wouldn't mind Joe fighting him, Froch needs to finally fight a non handpicked opponent.

You can punch as hard as you like but It has to land and Calzaghe has a granite chin.

Fair enough.

Inkins not a handpicked opponent.

I think Frochs power could put a BIG dent in JC, but as you say could he land it?? It'd be interesting finding out. JC would obviously start a decent favourite, but I'd be having a punt on a Froch by KO.

I'd be very surprised if this fight happens

When you look at guys like Marquez, Pac, Barrera and Morales fighting each other in some great fights where each man is forced to drag something special that they might not know they even have, out of themselves...well, Calzaghe's resume does look a bit thin, doesn't it? How many times has he really put it all on the line?

When you look at Haye winning the main belts in his first title fight - just over 20 fights into his career - not 20 WBO title defenses into his rein - WTF has Calzaghe been mincing around at?

I'm glad that it's all coming together and that he's being regarded as one of the best in the game, but it's been a long time coming. If he adds Hopkins and then the Froch-Inkin winner to the scalp collection of Kessler, Lacy, Eubank and co, I'll be impressed.

If Froch beats Inkin, he'll deserve a shot at a REAL belt, not a vacated one.
