Do any you cats think Johnny should give Carl his rematch?

Or is Johnny the 'fool' Nelson too busy preparing for his superfight with Jirov

McCoy thinks that Johnny should have given Carl a rematch even before his dramatic win against Rothmann, instead of shouting out names like Tyson, Wlad Klitschko, & Jirov, fine well knowing that he would never fight them & insulting our intelligence into the bargain!

Nelson fought well in their first meeting, but the fight was stopped prematurely after a combination that seemed to land on Carls gloves

The stoppage looks even more ridiculous now after seeing Carls powers of recovery in his fights with Grant, Sellars & Rothmann, dont get McCoy wrong its better a fight is stopped sooner rather than later, but that fight was stopped far too soon foe El McCoy verdaderos liking

Very good question. Thompson, after losing to Nelson somewhat prematurely, fought his way back into contention and deserved a rematch with Nelson. It was wrong he didn't get one. Ezra Sellers got a crack after beating Thompson eventually, so why not Thompson himself! Why not indeed. Now, the rematch is even more of a natural in my eyes. Politics, this time, may keep them apart.

Yeah I'd much prefer to see Nelson in with Carl in a real grudge match, than Johnny defending against the latest Norwegian meatball they're lining up.

In fact, despite being there on Friday, and joining in the jubilation of Carl's victory, in the cold light of day, I think Carl should call it quits, before he potentially gets seriously hurt.

Theres a chance Johnny would put Carl to sleep, hey it would make a difference from him putting us to sleep!

Do you not sense that Carl is a danger unto himself regardless of his next opponent ?

Kieran, you are right, we dont want to see Carl getting hurt, but Johnny aint getting any younger himself, & aint an aggressive non-stop puncher like a Jirov or a Braithwaite

Also, Carl beat a top 10 fighter in Rothmann, & showed that he still has a big punch, & although they call him the cat, he fights with the heart of a lion!

With Carl being on BBC and Johnny on SKY I just can't see it happening, although it would probably be a pretty good pay day for both.

Nelson has become a bore to watch recently and shouldn't even hold that belt after the ridiculous decision he got a while back.

I'd rather see Thompson v Rothmann II.

If he cant get a fight with a bigger name, other than a WBO mandatory, then he should go for it. Thompson's stock has risen, yet we all know he's vulnerable. I dont see why he shouldn't go for it.

I think Nelson has quite a lot more left in the tank that Carl.

Carl was troubled by almost every shot that Rothmann landed as the fight wore on, and looked exhausted as early as the 4th. Nelson still has quick hands and can still land nice combinations, which is I think more than enough to dispatch Thompson.

I'd like to see Thompson get a decent payday, but I think that the fact that he managed to find a way to win, should not distract us from just how bad he looked prior.

I totally agree with James. It was hard to tell from the TV, but Carl looked really hurt every time Rothmann connected and at one time, he seemed to be connecting at will.

We all jumped up in joy and amazement when Carl connected with that huge right hand, but after I'd calmed down, it dawned on me that this meant he was going to go back in again, probably against someone decent. There is absolutely no chance that he will retire but he ought to.

Rothmann messed about too much and could probably have stopped him much earlier if he hadn't been smirking and messing about. Fair play to Carl though but I do fear for him.

By the way, how classy was Rothmann in his post-fight interview? Top man.

Blimey James, you get passionate on these forums old son! I was going to back you up on the other Thompson one but read the rest and fortunately you had calmed down later!

Rothmann was being a prat and it cost him - I'm sure if he'd behaved himself and put on some proper pressure Mr Davies would have waved it off.

The annoying goading must be part of the SA's game plan...he was a true gent in the interview afterwards.

What does everyone think to the prospect of Carl Thompson v Mark Hobson? I was in Liverpool some time ago when Rothman stopped Hobson. In my mind it would be a good match.

Mark Hobson is part of the Tommy Gilmour team and with Carl boxing on BBC it probably won’t happen because of the politics involved, unfortunately politics seems to get in the way far too much and we, the public are robbed of what could be the making of some classic domestic fights.

I think Carl wouldn't be that interested in that fight, he wants one nice fat payday.

He may just end up retiring altogether..

Ian, I think I allowed Rothmann to piss me off, I did hear that he was all sweetness and light in the post fight interview. That's quite an achievement when you consider what an enormous plonker he must have felt...
