Surprise title shot lined up for Wayne Alexander

Wayne Alexander has been lined up for a surprise crack at the vacant WBU light-middleweight title in April. His likely opponent will be Portugal's Eugenio Monteiro, who beat reigning WBU champion Takaloo in a non-title fight at Wembley a fortnight ago. Takaloo was then stripped of the title. Alexander climbed off the floor to stop Howard Clarke in two rounds on Saturday and before that was stopped in the eighth and final round by Delroy Mellis.
The plan is for Alexander to defend against Mellis and Takaloo if he gets past the rugged Monteiro, who is based in Manchester. But on current form, I'd fancy Monteiro to win.

Could be a good couple of fights in the pipeline here then...I cant see Wayne getting past Montero let alone any of the others at this point in time although I would love to see him in with Tak.

Good chance for Wayne to focus on a crossroads fight. If he loses his career at world class level is over obviously.

He is looking a little on the 'shot' side but hopefully he can re-focus for this opportunity....

Its a make or break fight, personally I think its come a little soon for Wayne following his shock loss. I would like him to have a few more confidence builders first.

Having said that, I think he can beat Monteiro, but I'm worried about his futher defences.

Why not though, he's not getting any younger and its high time these Light Middles faught each other.

This is by no means a done deal.... Just spoke to Wayne.

Wayne suspects something like this may materialise but absolutely nothing is certain at the moment....

So basically, it could mean that Takaloo doesn't even get a chance to get immediate revenge over Montiero and regain his WBU title even though he lost on points to the Portugese mauler?

Meanwhile, Alexander sits on his behind for ages, gets starched by Mellis, gets bent in half by Clarke and gets a shot at Montiero and if successful will get a defence against Mellis before taking on Takaloo.

Yup, sounds fair enough to me??

Dirt, thats boxing unfortunately...

Wayne benefits at Takaloo expense just as Takaloo got his WBO shot when Wayne was injured...

To be honest I wouldnt begrudge Wayne his chance, he was advised to give up his lonsdale and euro crown in order to get a WBO crack in London which never happened.

Takaloo will come again......

Such is life i expect Alexander to probably beat Monteiro and relaunch his career after a series of none performances. That's the state of Boxing today i'm afraid

A guy can lose three on the bounce then fight for a title these days, it's a joke.

We should get behind Wayne too, an Alexander-Takaloo matchup in the summer would be superb!
