USA Boxing Sponsors
USA Boxing Sponsors
USAB has finally landed another corporate sponsor. LA BOXING has become the exclusive boxing, health and exercise club of USA Boxing. This shows that they are trying to get sponsorship money at the national level. I just hope that they were more careful this time and didn't over-commit and give away too much. I do like to see that they are working towards getting money at the national level which is where you can make the deals for big sponsorship money. I hope this will help amateur boxing and USA Boxing will be able to fund more competitions, clinics and such.
I don't think Michael King has anything to do with them. I would like to know more about the sponsorship agreement. If LA Boxing is the "Official" or "Exclusive" boxing, health and exercise club for USA Boxing, I would like to know what that entails. Does this mean that only the corporation, USA Boxing Inc., can't have any other sponsors such as Bally, 24 Hour Fitness, Curves, Contours, Gold's Gym, Powerhouse Gym, World Gym, etc?
Many promoters sponsor local and regional GG tournaments. Everlast and Air Jordan are sponsor of USA Boxing. TKO and Ringside sponsor National Golden Gloves as does Russell Athletics. There are many other sponsorship deals too. It is not as if corporations won't sponsor boxing, you just need to get the right fit and find someone within the organization that can see the benefit or who is a boxing fan.
This isn't new. They have had it for years. They don't want boxers to get money and be disqualified as an amateur. If you go through their trust account, the boxers can get money and USAB makes sure that the use of the funds is appropriate. They can't just take $10,000 out and go on a spending spree.actionfan wrote:anyone heard about the new program USA boxing is starting that lets anyone contibute TAX DEDUCTIBLE dollars to a fighter's trust fund to be used for travel, training expenses, and equipment? Sounds great considering it is difficult to set up a non profit for the funds.
I believe this part IS new. In the past, the trust fund has handled the USOC stipend, any bonuses from international competitions, and other competitions. As far as I know, individuals have never been able to contribute directly to the trust fund and get a tax write off. I like the idea. There are several boxers I might like to help out.anyone heard about the new program USA boxing is starting that lets anyone contibute TAX DEDUCTIBLE dollars to a fighter's trust fund
Trust fund
It would be wonderful if the trust fund could also work for non profit gyms or After school rec programs. To keep it honest,It could reemburse for equipment and the USA yearly boxing fee that each young fighter pays. There are alot of kids with single parents and it would help alot of single moms keep their kids in a positive environment.

I'm not sure that is new. The '06 rulebook under the Athlete's Boxing-Fund Agreement at section 5(b) stated: "(1) Of the funds received by USA Boxing as donations for the account of the athlete beneficiary (provided such donations are permissible under USA Boxing’s rules and are approved by USA Boxing); and". I believe this envisioned the same type of donations. It is possible that something changed or that they are just trying to emphasize it more now. Most gyms are 501(c)(3) organizations that can receive the same tax deductible donations and then just pay the athletes expenses.boxmel wrote:I believe this part IS new. I would guess that a separate trust would have to be set up for gyms/programs at the LBC level. Would probably have to have a different department at USAB to handle this - and, again, where would the money come from? Marketing, I guess. It would be wonderful if the trust fund could also work for non profit gyms or After school rec programs.
Dennis, in the 21 years I've been involved it has always been understood that the above didn't have anything to do with individual donations, like buying a raffle ticket. Unless you can pinpoint and deliniate what is "permissible under USAB's rules and approved by USAB," it's a moot point and discussion. But I still love you anyway.I'm not sure that is new. trust fund
After visiting the USA Boxing office and recieving the forms and correct information,Dennis,Boxmel, you are both somewhat correct. It is not a new program. It has new features. There is no longer a 10% " office " fee on donations. All funds go to the boxer. The boxer first sets up an account with USA Boxing.Donors send checks with a simple form attached and the boxer's name on the memo of the check.Funds are held for the boxer. Now NO reciepts are needed to recieve it. The boxer simply notifies in writing the funds needed and it's purpose. The amount is sent immediately. So for example, he can write he needs a certain amount for Travel to the next event,or an amount for equipment, and it will be sent.At the end of the year the boxer recieves a 1099 for the amount and must claim this as income.however,if he saves his reciepts I'm sure they will offset this.
My original quote. Dennis, I'm vindicated. 8) Sounds like a good plan to me. As an official, of course, I can't be seen to favor one boxer over another, but hope others will do what they can to support our athletes.I believe this part IS new.
Actionfan, would you care to divulge who you are? We know each other, right?
Hal - I would love to support you, but your very pretty wife is bigger than me and can probably put up with you better than I.

Boxmel. From the north. You heard right. It was moved out of S.F.and brought to Sacramento. The support was poor.Whatever you heard about the one that ended two years ago up here it was good for the kids and it was good for the fans.It just could not please everyone else. And I am not involved or friends with any promoters. The venues that draw are in S.F. But as actionfan I'll go where they are.
Boxmel,I attended the Golden Gloves Box off at Tulare today.Sadly,Blatant Favoritism was shown. What a shame. The president of the Golden Gloves promised to hold the state championships in Tulare in 2010.At the Sacramento event he promised to hold the 2009 championships in Sacramento. Do you think it's possible to bring the large turnouts of previous years in these venues?I think i figured out why you don't do Golden Gloves.
Any rules broken?Boxmel,I attended the Golden Gloves Box off at Tulare today.Sadly,Blatant Favoritism was shown. What a shame.

John Hardin, the California State franchise holder???
Maybe if Santos gets it back.Do you think it's possible to bring the large turnouts of previous years in these venues?
Sigh. Too bad, isn't it.think i figured out why you don't do Golden Gloves.
