Post by overhand_right »

you lucky people, overhand presents a bounty of rare and valuable info on the acorn, which in keeping with boxrec tradition, will be ignored and left to collect dust here in the record queries forum:

Shavers L6 Stan Johnson
- this was actually a SD.

Shavers LKO5 Ron Stander
- Shvaers breaks right hand in 3rd, corner throws in towel in 5th.

Shavers v Ted Gullick
- Ohio State Heavyweight Championship
(yesssssss, this is despite hte fact Earnie was also the champ of another state after he kayoed Pat Duncan)

Shavers v Jimmy Young 1
- This WAS a 3rd rd KO, once and for all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shavers W10 Vincente Rondon
- scores were: 99-94 twice, 100-90, UD Shavers!!

Shavers KO6 Ron Lyle
- surprised you haven't added this but, both men were down.

Shavers KO5 Jeff Sims
- again, common knowledge but mssing, Shavers was down and out in the 1st.

Shavers LDQ9 George Chaplin
- Responding to Chaplins incessent holding, Shavers throws decks Chaplin int he 9th with a blatant low blow and is disqualified.

shavers v. cookie wallace

Post by bob stevenson »

In May 74 traveled to San Jose to see Shavers fight Cookie Wallace, believe this was Shavers first bout after loss to Quarry. It was hardly worth the trouble; Wallace went down from nothing at all in the first, rolled around on the canvas and wound up with his legs crossed at the ankles, waiting for the ref (Richard Greene, who wound up committing suicide...another story) to count him out. Wallace, a decent enough opponent when he wanted to be, also pulled this stunt v. Duane Bobick, but there I think he waited until the second (saw this on tape). In any case, Shavers got the win, such as it was, and life went on. Wallace cheated a lot of paying customers, though. Shavers never hit him one clean shot.
