HBO pass on Hatton-Lazcano

Confirmation of what we already knew - that it's not a competitive match that has any value bar acting as a rehabilitation fight for Ricky...

I am pretty sure as this fight was a homecoming the idea was that it was a t time suitable for the british viewing public, thus compromising a live american broadcast.
It has been sais that HBO have signed a 3 fight deal with Hatton, presumably starting with Hattons propsed fight in NYC with Malignaggi.
Having this Lazcano fight go out in America, albeit on a relatively unknown broadcaster, means the Hattons have cashed in yet again.

Agreed. HBO have learned from Calzaghe v Mandfredo and Kessler about daytime showings.dbf wrote:I am pretty sure as this fight was a homecoming the idea was that it was a t time suitable for the british viewing public, thus compromising a live american broadcast.

In some ways it would be more beneficial for this to be on network TV. ABC has been mentioned as DLH v Forbes might be on there too.

Guys, whilst it is clearly good news to some that HBO have done this - what you are forgetting is the astronomical fee Sky TV will be paying to screen the fight.
Regardless of whether it is PPV or not - Hatton will have secured a minmum amount regardless of the amount of buys on PPV - I am willing to wager £2m would be the minimum starting figure - then there is the revenue from tickets and memorabilia.
So don't think for one minute Team Hatton will be out of pocket.

Reasons HBO passed on the fight acccording to espn.com:
HBO passed on Hatton-Lazcano. Besides a packed schedule and budget concerns, it didn't care for the matchup and was not too interested in doing a fight on the typically low viewership Memorial Day weekend
Makes sense, good thing is that the fight is going to televised LIVE in the afternoon on the Versus channel, which most households in the U.S get.

Unfortunately it means SKY can get away with charging on PPV. If HBO had picked up the fight under the WCB banner, provided HBO had the primary rights, SKY would've had to screen it for free.Spud wrote:Guys, whilst it is clearly good news to some that HBO have done this - what you are forgetting is the astronomical fee Sky TV will be paying to screen the fight.

It's in HBOs contracts with international broadcasting companies that they cannot charge for shows that aren't charged in the US.

HBO aren't pulling out of showing hatton fights
they'll be back for the malignaggi fight.
HBO turned down witter as well
bottom line DG.
This is about HATTON, but nice to see evn you can not speak of Vicky without mentioning Witter,
Hatton Vs Lazcano is a shit fight.
I am sure British Fight fans would rather it was on at 4am an free instead of paying £15.00!
Shit I tell you, shit!
Come on Lazcano!
Spot on mate. The show is as good as a sellout before a undercard match is announced which suggests there will be a good PPV take on it.Spud wrote:Guys, whilst it is clearly good news to some that HBO have done this - what you are forgetting is the astronomical fee Sky TV will be paying to screen the fight.

Also a lot of the people who follow Ricky are into him more than boxing. These are the types who wont be bothered forking out for t-shirts, posters etc.
If Hatton having a 'homecoming' fight is drawing in people who wouldn't normally go to a boxing show than surely that is good for the game.
Boxing is a business and if they can bank as much money as possible good luck to them.
Those who reckon it is a crap fight etc etc fair enough, but nobody is twising their arm to buy a ticket or cough up whatever Sky charge. If people want to then it is their perogative.
The undercard is very good IMO considering Hatton doesn't really have a stable of fighters.chris s wrote:Spot on mate. The undercard so far consists of Malignaggi/N'dou and Matthew Hatton v TBA. That is a shower of shite if you ask me, just like the main event. Watching a plodder like N'dou chase Malignaggi around the ring for another twelve rounds will be tedious for anyone stupid enough to watch and Matthew Hatton won't be fighting anyone of interest either.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:The undercard is very good IMO considering Hatton doesn't really have a stable of fighters.chris s wrote:Spot on mate. It's within a Castillo link about 2 weeks back.
There was not enough time to arrange it.
