Have heard that Danny Green has quit boxing, he was preparing for his first defense of the WBA title.

Anyone know anymore?

Id say there is way more to this than meets the eye. He waited so long to get a world title and the big money opportunites that come with it and then quits when he's finally reached that point. Something's amiss.

That is a strange one with Green - surely more will come out on that story?

Fightnews have picked up on the Peter Buckley retirement story - nice to see him get coverage that extends beyond the British shores..

After going 5 years and 80 fights without a single victory, and losing 249 of 291 professional fights, British welterweight Peter Buckley has decided to retire. The 39 year old Buckley (31-249-11; 8 KO’s) began his career as a featherweight in 1989 and has fought (and lost to) such fighters as ‘Prince’ Naseem Hamed, Duke McKenzie, Acelino Freitas, Scott Harrison and current WBA junior welterweight champ Gavin Rees. He fought all of his 291 fights in the UK and is believed to have more losses than any British fighter in history. However, Buckley has long been considered ‘a savior’ to any matchmaker in need. According to The Sun, one stated: “Pete has been a great servant to the sport. It’s easy to look at his record and deride it, but fighters like Pete are British boxing’s lifeblood. He has taken on many hot prospects at short notice and saved many a promoter’s bacon.” In a previous interview, Buckley has said: “Boxing has allowed me to have nice holidays. The game also allowed me to earn a lot of respect and it’s increased my own self respect. And, it’s kept me out of prison.”

Maybe he's making the fight bigger, getting ppl worked up that he's retired. Maybe he's getting John and Asiku (undercard) some publicity.

Or maybe he has medical problems again. Or perhaps he knows the time is right to get out.

If he is well, I hope he fights again as the Drews fight was terrible (due to Drews) & Green can be in some great fights. Erdei, Woods, Briggs - all good fights.

Green-Garay is a decent scrap.

the green issue is baffling, it is either....

1. a detatched retina or similar

2. a ploy to receive a big purse off someone to make a come back.

Or maybe he just woke up and thought 'I don't need this', and thats it.
He must have made some money , and hope he's invested it well.

Gutted for Asiku and John. Hope they get rescheduled. Asiku's an impressive fighter, as former opponent Mark Callaghan noted on the Jackson thread.
