Katsidis-Rees

Post by El Raincoat »

I was thinking after they both lost on the weekend waht a great match up this would be especially as Rees has said he may drop to Lightweight. It woul dbe an out and out war.

I'd love to see them both get back to winning ways and then fight before the end of the year.

Katsidis would KO Rees, imo. Rees defense isn't good enough to avoid Katsidis and he can't garner respect with his punches.

Michael Katsidis vs Juan Diaz is much more appealing for me.

:TU:

The winner of this needs to fight the winner of Joel v Nate II. The winner of that then, maybe, face Khan.

That maybe true but i would be far from one sided. Katsidis leads with his face so Rees would have his joy.

It would be a tremendous action fight.

I wouldn't give Rees a prayer if he fought Katsidis, IMO he's not even big enough for lightweight, if he drops to super-feather he'd have a much better chance of winning titles.

Although he would be dropping down in weight, Katsidis probably hits as hard as Kotelnik if not harder. Katsidis lacks Kotelnik's defence, but I think that the differential in power would mean a swift end for Rees. Rees is not a naturally powerful man, and even at lightweight he's not going to suddenly become a devastating hitter.

What about Khan v Rees. Still think Rees would carry ambition and guts into the fight. Khan's not as well schooled as Kotelnik, and Rees could definetly make him work for a few rounds I think.

I suspect, it may be the fight they wanted to make or Kastisdas but both are blown over now as they offer little superficially to Khan.

i.e. no belt.

If Khan is to win a belt before he's 21 his potential opponents at 135 and 140 are?

140 Witter, Maglianggi, Torres
135 Diaz, Casamayor, Kotelnik

I have a man cold, do forgive ommission.s

I'd actually give Khan a shot against Casamayor. Katsidis isn't the quickest, and is easier to hit than Khan, and Amir would be quite significantrly bigger than Casamayor.

It is not without risk, but he'll never have a better time to add a future hall of famer to his resume, and if he loses, then, so what? He lost to Casamayor.

Mr Warren may not agree with what I say, but I think it's an excellent match to make before the end of the year.

It must be that cold, Dave, as Kotelnik belongs at 140 and Nate Campbell should be included at 135.

Right. Gavin Rees is a poor man's, domestic level Juan Diaz. Diaz-Katsidis would be a much more competitive spectacle.

What if the promoter could convince them to make it for the full title? The belt is still vacant is it not?

I don't understand why Gavin Rees isn't at the very least a featherweight. He doesn't have the pop at light welterweight and when he was hit by Andreas Kotelnik (who isn't that hard hitting) his neck was rocked from side-to-side. If he went to a proper dietitian he could shed quite a few pounds, possibly getting as low as super bantamweight. He lets himself bloat between fight and I've heard that his walking-weight in between 165lbs-175lbs - that's far too much weight for a boxer of his size. I think if he did everything right then he could unify a couple of world-titles at featherweight.

And at the weigh-in for the Kotelnik fight he failed to make the weight at the first time of asking - he was actually over the 140lbs limit which I find hilarious and he had to strip naked - he actually looked kind of fat.

With no disrespect to Gavin Rees, he had done nothing to deserve a World Title Shot. Look at his opponents previous to M'Baye. Ok, it was a good win against M'Baye, but now he has been beaten and lost his belt, he should really be aiming at British/European level matchups for a while. If he can win at this level, then be thinking about the World title again.
