Amir Khan: 'a bad example'

Post by Neri »

It's all over the news and it's stupid comments coming from a stupid man by the sounds of it.

http://www.itv.com
British boxer Amir Khan is setting a bad example to Muslims according to a radical cleric.

Omar Bakri Mohammad, who lives in Lebanon is reported saying: "Amir Khan is not a good example for Muslims. He wears shorts with the Union Jack. That is a sin.

"He should not be wearing the flag because sovereignty is for God. His only allegiance should be to the Prophet Mohammed."

The Commonwealth lightweight title-holder, who is from Bolton, Lancashire, is draped with the Union Flag in photos on his official website and often wears shorts featuring the emblem.

The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) called Bakri Mohammad's comments "bizarre".

Inayat Bunglawala, assistant secretary general of MCB said: "He's a hugely successful boxer, proud of being Muslim and British. I can see why that could upset Omar Bakri, but to hundreds of thousands of British Muslims, Amir Khan is a wonderful role model."

Mr Bunglawala added: "These comments are typical of Omar Bakri.

"He doesn't live in this country and frankly his views are of no concern to British Muslims."

The self-styled radical cleric caused a media storm after the London bombings, declaring that the only people he blames for the London bombings are the government and British public.

Until the order allowing him indefinite leave to remain in the UK was revoked - thus excluding him from British soil - the government had also named him as one of three people it was investigating for having possibly committed treason.

Khan, 21, is due to fight Martin Kristjansen for the WBO Lightweight Championship of the World in his home town of Bolton on April 5.

The fight is billed as "National Pride" on an advertisement poster by promoter allegedly and shows Khan poised in a boxing stance.

Islam seems more and more like a religion built on insecurity each day.

I had a little look at the Sun this morning and this was on the front page. They've done a sort of tale of the tape between this arsehole and Khan inside. Quite funny if it wasn't so serious.

Why do rags like The Sun insist on putting stuff like this in the news? Why give people like Bakri the time?

Amir Khan is above all this BS.

Exactly. Why give him the fuel of publicity?

This guy is an outsider in the Muslim community, and all this article is going to achieve, is to incite hatred where it doesn't exist already, and inflame it where it does.

Its even a sin to wear the union jack now? Christ almighty, is there anything that muslims are allowed to do? This old fella has too much time on his hands. More of the 'anything that is not Islamic should die' rhetoric.

Is Bakri still in the country?

I thought this poop-meister was being deported? Or was he simply charged?

Campbell won WBO, WBA and IBF titles the other week. All recent write ups of Campbell refer to him as the WBA and IBF champ now. It seems he is a WBO title shy, all of a sudden. Someone tell me I'm wrong.

This stinks if that's the case. How on earth can the WBO sanction Khan vs some scrub for the WBO title. Disgusting, absolutely disgusting.

they cant surely... Katsidis or Casamayor is Interim champ.... surely Khan would have to fight one of them for the 'vacant' title?

that's right, Casa has been paying sanctioning fees to the WBO (and WBC) for interim belts.

So it looks like he'd have to face Casa (if Campbell vacates) or Campbell (if Nate keeps the trinket), which is how it should be.

I spotted that in the article too but left it unedited, must be an error by a confused editor at ITV.com.

Erm, well im a Muslim. Just Ignore Comments like these...

Whether this dude was Serious or his comments was taken out of context, who knows, but important thing is to not give these guys attention.

I doubt Amir Khan even cares..

As for Omar being a "representetive" of Islam, i have never heard of him... so you're wrong there :TU:

Amir Khan is in Sport.

The Cleric is taking things Political. Sports and Politics don't Mix. End of discussion.

i would appreciate it if people take it easy on the Racism. I know its easy for anyone to take a pop at the Media Darlings (Muslims) but use your head please.

Thanks

Why the hell do they worship a child molester then, its fucked up and weird. But hten again lots of religions are just a front for child molestors!!!
So this so called child molestor is loved by how many millions of people????
Get a grip and do some studying before talking smack! (talking to teddy)!

And to i believe Bakri would say something lke this;but yet he is harmless, i saw a documnetary on him maybe 10 yrs ago where he was promoting his voice on Islam..and it was a joke and a contradiction at the same time.

The Sun is not known to take every source so seriously!
