Zeljko Mavrovic's health.
Does anyone know how former Heavyweight contender Zeljko Mavrovic is these days? I read a few years ago he was suffering from a mystery wasting illness and was down to 190lbs.

Cheers, let me know if you find anything out, I seem to recall that around the Lewis fight Zeljko Mavrovic claimed to only eat organic food. I hope he is now in good health.Dutch Windmill wrote:I did some research on this a while ago(after I saw his fight wih Lewis for the first time).
Last thing I read that he was promoting some crazy medicine(he was a veganist or so as a fighter I think) that gave him back his health, I gotta search for that site again
His wife was really hot though.
And yes his wife was a total Babe!!!

it was a rare and strange disease... you dont think it was something to do with his diet, do ya.......?
incidentally, when exactly did mavrovic have to quit boxing? i know his last fight was with lennox, but well over a year later, mavrovic was in fact the original opponent for rachman, but pulled out and oleg maskaev came in.

I believe he took ill during training for the Rahman fight and had to cancel, allowing Maskaev to take the fight on short notice and KO Rahman through the ropes. What a beauty that was!
I think Mavrovic announced retirement in 2001, I seem to remember he was way down to 170 lbs around the Lewis-Tyson fight in 2002. Ironically, Tyson recognized him at one of the pressconferences prior to the fight and even spent several hours talking to him. Maybe he was asking about Lewis' weaknesses, seeing that Mavrovic gave Lewis a good fight - a lot better than Tyson finally did anyway.
A real shame about Mavrovic though. I don't think he had what was neccessary to fight at championship level, but he could have been a good "gatekeeper" for the division.
