MACCA & REES DOWN, ARTHUR TO FOLLOW, JC OR KHAN NEXT?

Post by overhand_right »

Oh dear. Its all looking bad for Fwankie Warren. Back in the day he used to protect his paper champs for years on end-- is he losing his touch?

Macca iced in quick time by the divisions legit #1 David Haye.

Rees predictably falls apart in his first defence against a competent if unspectacular Ukraine.

Alex Arthur needs only to show up for his beheading at the hands of Guzman. A foregone conclusion if ever there was one.

Does Calzaghe get schooled against a 43 year old B-Hop next to completely destroy FW s stable? Personally i'd find this hilarious.

Amir Khan, having been developed the exact same way as Macca, Rees and Arthur faces a pretty tough crop to try get his lightweight belt: Campbell, Casamayor and soon to be Manny Pac.

By the end of 2008 we could have brought the curtain down on the whole Frankie Boy Circus :TU: :TU:

although if he is going to put his boys in PROPER fights, do we want to end that? or more power to him now they are doign it right....

Mitchell vs Johannson and Haye vs Macca were the two most competitive SN fights in a long time, maybe even since Hatton vs Zoo

the King is ... different, long live the king!

You would have to say khan as Calzaghe has a very good chance of retiring un-beaten as he's coming to the end of his career.
i dont care who wins or loses, long as its a good fight.... if its a series of shit fights, then people will get twitchy about supporting them, or they should

Frank hasn't really changed,

he was tricked into the Haye fight and would never have taken it if he thought Haye would be anywhere near 100%.

He had no chance with Rees, even if he got a Bobby Gunn type challenger for him, he'd still have lost because he had no right even contesting a world title in the first place.

Since Katsidis didn't win, Khan will be protected for at least another year at least. Probably until Casamayor loses his title or they're prepared to gamble that he's totally shot.

Calzaghe will be retired in a year so its all about getting as much money as possible from now on regardless of the risks.

But don't worry, the whole cycle will start again from the summer after he signs most of the GB Olympic team!

Respect to FW for putting the fights on and getting away from the mismatches we keep getting served up. A loss isn't catastrophic for these fighters.

Enzo will come again and challenge for World titles at 200.

Rees winning a world title was a surprise in the first place in a weight division he shouldn't have been in, he'll come back from the experience stronger IMO.

Arthurs been unlucky to be in a division that has class stamped thru it (Pac, JMM, Guzman, MAB etc.), he's undoubtedly in for a hiding against Guzman, but I'm happy that he wants to leave his comfort zone and take on the best.

A win for Nard (the prick) over JC would be gutting, I don't see it happening, but if it does I reckon JC might hang em up.

It'll be interesting to see which World title they target for Khan now as the weekends results all went against him (Casa and Rees)

No doubt Frank will be crawling all over the next generation of stars as we speak (and there seems to be a few) to replenish his stocks

Funny, frank always enjoyed mismatches but now he's making them in favour of the opponent.

of course Guzman's fans in Dominican Republic will be wondering why on earth he is taking on alex arthur, while arthur's unsuspecting fans will probably be welcoming what will amount to an execution.

incidentally has anyone noticed that Ring magazine ratings have Arthur above guys like Rocky Juarez? :o

Don't forget that there are other WORLD champions- what about Jennings and Matthews? WBU of course... but still, they can be billed as World Champions.

Is that the future? I hope not, but there are still some very capable champions in the Warrens stable.

The Walsh brothers could create a good amount of interest too if matched right.

Certainly Michael Walsh- given that only 6 fighters are active in the Super Flyweight division, he could be challenging for the British Title at some point reasonably soon.

Boxrec actually have Ryan Walsh as the 4th best super bantam in the country.

The 3 brothers on the same card gimmick is interesting too.

he has only held a big crop of champs for 2 years so to be honest does it really matter

there was only JC who was up there and hatton bein around the top ten

i think FW makes more ££££££ building them up than he does when they are champs cause he doesnt have to pay his own or the oppo as much and still brings in the crowns and TV

Warren may appear to have lost his touch, but you can bet your last dollar that he wont let Khan near any of them. Not today, nor tommorow, or anytime within this decade/centuary....... they'll all get mentioned however :P

Silly thread. Two fighters have lost their belts. The rest is speculation on what might be... You can't start complaining about Frank's fighters having some touch competition, its the way it should be. Anyway, thats the way boxing goes, fighters win and lose, and new fighters come through. Frank will always be looking for new talent. Not everyone can be at the level of Calzaghe - people do lose fights on occasion, people do come back, others retire.... blah blah blah

Whys it silly exactly? 2 fighters were exposed for being nowhere near the championship level FW professed, and soon Alex Arthur will face the same.

Its good for boxing these paper titlists being sent to the shredder.

Couldn't agree more, half of boxing's trouble is the paper titles, the other half is the mismatches that often accompany them.

It's certainly a valid thread.

I think Warren's credibility is on the line. If Calzaghe loses it will be an absolute disaster and it will totally call into question the worth of WBO champions and easy title defences.

We should all be watching very carefully. And we should also watch the alternative, such as the best of the Maloney and Hennessy fighters doing things the "traditional" way i.e. beat the best of Britain, then the best of Europe, THEN you are ready for the world.

Calzaghe Is different to all the others he won't lose to Hopkins.

Doubt Khan will lose till he's In a world class fight, the Dane as you guys say can't punch and they were persistant on fighting the Dane over a better fighter.

Arthur might lose though but Guzman looks too reliant on reflexes but will win on points probably.

This coming form the same guy who overrated Eastman.

Rees needs to prove more no doubt but he's shown to be above domestic level although not world class. It was the size that beat him In the end.

Enzo Is still a top 5 Cruiser, we know Haye can punch and calling Enzo exposed and nowhere near championship level. takes the credibility out of Haye's win.

Arthur hasn't gone the WBU route either, he's went the traditional route we all like to say they should do so why rip on him? He may lose but he's fought decent opponents to a world title and won the British, Comm and Euro or don't we credit them If there a Warren fighter?

I don't see how Rees has proved he is better than domestic level. Take away the M'Baye fight where he was fighting a guy who did next to nothing and he hasn't even reached British title level in reality. I'd like to see him at British title level next anyway.

Well he held his own against Kotelnik until he was hurt and outsized and winning a title only fighting In 6 rounders previously Is pretty good for a start.

Not Rees fault M'Baye was lazy, they can't make him show up 100%.

He got lucky M'Baye was lazy and good for him but he hasn't proved to me he is anything beyond a domestic level fighter. Kotelnik completely outclassed him, he held his own for about 2 rounds.

Rees didn't hold his own with Kotelnik. He was beaten up steadily.

I thought It was close points wise to why I thought he was holding his own until the strength of Andreas was too much.

Ouch. That was a low blow. Everyone knows im still hurting over Eastman :(

Because of his insistance that his awful WBO interim belt in a half empty sports hall was 'a genuine title winning fight' up there with Buchanan bumping off Laguna in the sweltering Puerto Rican heat.

Because of misleading comments such as 'i'll be undisputed WBO champ as soon as Guzman vacates' instead of a more David Haye approach like 'i wont feel like a champ til i knock out Guzman'.

Using the word undisputed in the same sentence as his WBO belt, and avoding talk of fighting any of the big name fighters and struggling with Steve Foster are all good reasons to resent Arthur calling himself a champ.
