It seemed as though he implied HBO turned Witter down as an opponent for Hatton.

What's embarrassing is that they turn down Witter v Bradley, Hatton v Lazcano, yet were willing to show Forbes v DLH on PPV.DG. wrote:You have to understand, HitmanhHatton1 is the forum edddiiooooott!!Blue wrote:Thanks for clarifying,DG. wrote:Sorry, they did not turn it down.

Hopefully the HBO budget cuts will improve the product they offer.

Regardless of the quality of the fight - HBO are showing DLH/Forbes because the american fight fans want to see DLH box and in addition the viewing figures for that fight will be satisfactory at worst.
Sky TV are putting on the Hatton/Lazcano fight for the same reasons in the UK.
Team Hatton is happy
Sky are happy
The General public are happy
The only people who are not necessarily happy is over critical boxing fans- now us lot criticising on here is a good thing - but lets be honest the only people who are not happy about Hatton/Lazcano is a very small minority.
sad but very true.

Let's just say I know HBO tried to get it on PPV, with another HoF fighter, but DLH wanted it on free. PM me if you wanna know more mate.DG. wrote:Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:What's embarrassing is that they turn down Witter v Bradley, Hatton v Lazcano, yet were willing to show Forbes v DLH on PPV.DG. wrote: You have to understand, HitmanhHatton1 is the forum edddiiooooott!!

I think charging punters £14.99 for the fight is a little cheeky. Thankfully Team Hatton appear to be rectifying that by creating a very good undercard.Spud wrote:Regardless of the quality of the fight - HBO are showing DLH/Forbes because the american fight fans want to see DLH box and in addition the viewing figures for that fight will be satisfactory at worst.

At least we don't get charged US prices!
As I've said before, there is a feeling that Hatton gave his best in the Tszyu fight - one of the great nights for UK boxing - and that the rest is the comedown. It feels like they're pushing it with the PPVs for happy iminent retirement, which detracts from the fights as an event. So I'm not chuffed about being charged £15 but I know I'll buy it anyway for the DVD collection.
I think Ricky is quite masterful with the showbiz and media side of things and that he could make a cracking promoter and with Warren not staging massive Manchester nights of boxing anymore, Ricky could give that boost to some of the promising Mancs out there.

Its a poor fight, and shouldn't be PPV.
If he wants to repay British fans, repay those who shelled out £15 to watch his last two million fights.
Lazcano was a mediocre opponent two years ago.
Sensible, prudent opponent now, but PPV - come on, thats highway robbery.
PPV is meant to be for special events, this isn't.
The fact Lascano isn't even on the poster says it all.

I think your right in what you say about only a minority being disgruntled, however, I disagree that its a "sad" situation. I see no problems in Hatton fighting Lazcano as his first comeback fight after a KO.Spud wrote:Regardless of the quality of the fight - HBO are showing DLH/Forbes because the american fight fans want to see DLH box and in addition the viewing figures for that fight will be satisfactory at worst.

Overcrticial my arse.
Why should I have to pay 15 quid to watch this fight? I already pay sky 35 quid a bleedin' month, and this fight is not worthy of 15 quid of my hard earned.
I for one will not be buying this. I will watch if someone I know is going to watch it, but otherwise, I'm giving it a miss.
I think it's a bloody cheek.

We have to oay for Hatton Vs Lazcantdo it no mo!
The opponent isn't ideal but could be deemed acceptable for a normal Sky or Setanta broadcast. But PPV?fist wrote:

We could look at this in reverse. We don't have to pay for US fights, but they do ($54.99 n some instances).DG. wrote:Spud forgot to mention that DLH Vs Forbes is FREE!jamesmcdonnell wrote:Balls!Spud wrote:Regardless of the quality of the fight - HBO are showing DLH/Forbes because the american fight fans want to see DLH box and in addition the viewing figures for that fight will be satisfactory at worst.

I think people should reserve judgment on the price of the PPV until the undercard is announced, to see whether it's value for money.

But we should not lose sight if the fact ths is SUPPOSED to be a gift from Hatton to his fans.
It should be free - especially with 50k people paying at the door.
we owe it to him don't we, to show that we all appreciate him before he retires?Chambers2 wrote:What a Warrior!!!Autobarn wrote:sadly, gravely, cynically, it's probably because he can sell out 50,000 to a victim (Lazcano) of a Witter victim (Harris).Chambers2 wrote:so why won't Hatton fight his main rival at 140 and fellow Brit in a British Mega-Fight??

I'm not buying. Its not a world title fight and its not a decent matchup. Unfortunately for Sky, paying 16 quid or so for this fight looks like even worse value when you look at the fights that you can watch for just a bit more than that over a two month period on Setanta.
I'm sure Ricky will make a fortune regardless of the PPV figures, not least because of a huge live gate. I expect the size of the crowd will be one of the key marketing messages to create a buzz in the two weeks up to the event. And good luck to him - whatever you think of Ricky he's worked harder AND smarter at his marketing than any other British fighter in history.
Its not a moral choice for me, just a consumer one. Dont fancy the fight, will spend my money on something else instead.

Undercard will be a selling point as well. Malingaggi-Ndou IBF title on the undercard so technically, the winner faces Hatton. I hope a substandard Paulie turns up and that Lovemore comes in determined and reverses the last result. A big if but I can hope. Lovemore needs to fight like a maniac as he did with Rabah.
Hopefully there will be another good fight as well. Jamie Moore's fight with Baysangurov for the EBU is meant to be in May, and Moore's promoter is the same guy that's staging Hatton-Lazcano (Maloney).

Two world title fights isnt to be saniffed at!ArtOfWar wrote:The undercard so far consists of Malignaggi/N'dou and Matthew Hatton v TBA. That is a shower of shite if you ask me, just like the main event. Watching a plodder like N'dou chase Malignaggi around the ring for another twelve rounds will be tedious for anyone stupid enough to watch and Matthew Hatton won't be fighting anyone of interest either.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:The undercard is very good IMO considering Hatton doesn't really have a stable of fighters.chris s wrote: Spot on mate. The show is as good as a sellout before a undercard match is announced which suggests there will be a good PPV take on it.
Also a lot of the people who follow Ricky are into him more than boxing. These are the types who wont be bothered forking out for t-shirts, posters etc.
If Hatton having a 'homecoming' fight is drawing in people who wouldn't normally go to a boxing show than surely that is good for the game.
Boxing is a business and if they can bank as much money as possible good luck to them.
Those who reckon it is a crap fight etc etc fair enough, but nobody is twising their arm to buy a ticket or cough up whatever Sky charge. If people want to then it is their perogative.
