Off Topic - Football - England v france

Post by rhino222 »

absolutely fcuking clueless, England were/are absolutely dire, i have never seen such a sterile inept performance from a bunch of multi-millionaires without the ability to cross/pass/trap or control a ball.

i played adult football for 26 years to a decent standard and swear i could do a better job or crossing the ball. and the pitches i played on were far from international standard.

i hoped that with the appointment of capello that this sort of evening was a thing of the past, but our players are just not up to it.

after all...... you cant polish a turd !!

Its hard to draw any positives from the game,
the plus sides are we held most of the possesion, and
we defended well, and if it wasnt for calamity james
giving away yet another penalty then it would have been a draw.

That being said, although we had possesion with that it showed many of Englands weaknesses, which is the end product, we arnt creating the chances and when we do, where not putting them away.
Rooney isnt a natural finisher although he is our best forward, he isnt
a striker. Owen is far too past it, he lacks the mobility he once had,
he is a great finisher, but so is Robbie Fowler, what he is missing is the rest of his game!
Another thing other than the shambles which is Englands strike force,
is Beckham, he doesnt belong in the starting XI, he played ok tonight,
but his game is far to predictable and the opposition know what to look for, he was lucky tonights game was a friendly because you could see the pace would be too much for him if the tempo was upped.

If Cappello wants a different keeper, Foster and Green are the guys he needs to look at, he needs to get Micah Richards back into the squad (was he injured for tonights games???) and drop Beckham and Owen.
I would much prefer SWP, although lacks strength, his pace is blistering and he creates chances. Solving the problem upfront is something im out of ideas on, Rooney is first team and rightly so, but we need someone
who is a deadly finisher with pace and strength....do we have anyone who fits that???

Richards is indeed injured. Shaun Wright Phillips is not going to be the answer either. He creates chances, but he does it within the context of the English game: the game is stretched, so his pace can have an effect. Capello's teams, as indeed most international teams do, rely more on controlled possession and play than raw breaks. James is an easy scapegoat for the penalty as well. Terry was caught between two stools when the through ball was played.

I think England will do well under Capello, as long as the players listen. In this country, being a good player seems to mean you run your arse off. Heroic tackles are seen as a great thing. Other, more succeseful countries get themselves organised so that you don't need to sprint and make the 'hero' challenge. Rooney, for example, wants to be involved all the time. Not a bad thing. But he's meant to be the apex of the attack, so him dropping deep just fucks the balance up. English football's biggest failing is is that Tactics are so alien. Yet Mourinho and Benitez have shown how important they are. It might be boring, but when playing against the suppposed big-names of European club football, those two have shown that you don't need to run like a headless chicken, you need to have a system.

I know we aren't world beaters because we don't have the players, but it was only a friendly.

It is what we do in the WC qualifiers that will decide if progress is made under Capello.

Eriksson had a shocking record in friendlies - we even lost one to Australia at Upton Park. In qualifiers his record was second to none. We achieved as much as we could under him yet people expected more.

Where do you think England should be in world football with the current crop we have, Rhino222?

There seems to be an island mentality among fans that we have the divine right to win everything.

Those players last night have bigger games next week in Europe and in the last seven league games. Friendlies right now are a hinderance to them.

Judge them in 12 months after WC qualifiers

International Friendlies are a complete waste of time, last night looked like a training game. Did anyone expect anything else?

The one up top that Capello likes does not work that is clear from his 2 games so far. Not in it's current guise anyway. If you played a proper striker up front (dont ask me who) with Rooney in the withdrawn role and Gerrard back in the central midfield I think that would be a better combination. Then Rooney can do his usual roaming around the pitch making things happen. Why is he playing James in the friendlies? Surely he should be trying to blood one of the younger keepers at this stage so he's ready to take over by the time the qualifiers come around. Is James realistically going to play up to an including the 2010 world cup? He's 37.

I can't believe that Capello has given into the hype & fuss surrounding the now past-it Beckham.

Beckham chose celebrity over football when he joined LA Galaxy & there is no way that he should now be playing for England.

The proof was there last night: his legs have gone; he can't run anymore. Wes Brown spent more time AHEAD of Beckham than behind him & Brown is supposed to be a defender! :o

In fact, Beckham's cap should be given to Brown for all the running he had to do to cover Beckham!

All this nonsense about 100 caps really grates with me, especially when the real issue here is the state of the England football team, which when I last checked was in total disarray.

I don't think the media & the luvvies are going to be worried about how many caps Beckham has got, when in the Summer, Euro 2008 kicks off & England's so-called golden generation (which was going to win Euro 2004 & WC 2006 :-? ) are sat watching their 60 inch plasmas in their footballers mansions with stone cladding in 3 different colours rather than participating in the tournament!

It will dawn on them then that the amount of caps a once decent midfielder has is totally irrelevant!

it's a mess.

all they needed was a draw in that croatia game.

couldn't even get that right.

the best premiership teams are packed with foreigners for a very good reason.

because there better.

He's got to stop playing Rooney up top by himself, play him in the hole with a pacey Owen or Defoe in front of him.

We'll definately win the 2010 World Cup, we're just having a few teething problems.

Capello wont be able to turn around England's fortunes. They just are not good enough.

He will probably eventually get sacked

The sad thing, I think you're right (or he might walk)!!!

England's players are just not as good as the media thinks they are,

Unless Capello is going to play to England's strengths (yes, they have some :o ), ie, pace & power, we're never going to get anywhere.

We need to play 4-4-2 (including 1 holding & 1 attacking midfielder, so that means no more Lampard & Gerrard [who has been missing in an England shirt for longer than Lord Lucan] & a big man/little man combo up front) with lots of pace & aggression: we just do not have the players to play a slow, technical game, like the Italians do.

I really wish Harry Redknapp had got the job because I think that's what he would have done.

The thing is, we might not even win anything doing that, but at least the players would be playing in a system that they are familiar with & might have half a chance of doing something good.

England's players are just not as good as the media thinks they are,
i think the Media know england players suck bad...

Have you noticed before every campaign they build up ENglands hopes with tons of Hype, then destroy them when they fail.

Helps them Sell their Crap.

But thats where the Problem is though, the Media do their thing to make money, and at the same time are the main cause that destroy the reputation of the manager causing the "Chairman" to Sack the Manager.

I agree England love to try to play to technical like Italy, Argentina etc. But the fact is they cannot. Having played imn the premierships their used to the " argy bargy "style they play with their Clubs.

Try bringing them together they don't know WHAT their doing
