Apparently it was always happening with him. On this occasion, he stopped sparring, jumped out of the ring, picked up the eye wiped it put it back in, jumped back in the ring and carried on sparring.
Strangest thing I have ever seen happen in the ring. I think I would have burst out laughing if I hadn't been so shocked by it.
Earnie Shavers has a knackered left eye. Holmes did it in their rematch with his thumb. The two now speak every week on the phone. Incidentally, I went to a 'do' involving Earnie Shavers in Cannock. Before it started, Earnie was standing at the bar watching himself on the giant screen knocking out all these guys. There were guys in the bar just having a drink and you could see them looking at the the screen, then back at Earnie, then at the screen again, and thinking "Shit! Somebody buy him a drink quick!"

I've done numerous Charity Functions with him, and he's never let me down.
Great story teller as well.
He talks of his power, and how this emanates from his thighs, honed to the maximum by chopping trees. This played a major part in all his fight preparations.
