Ex-Boxers now in prison
Anyone know who is in the nick at the present.
I remember Jerry O'dowd went to prison for murdering his wife back in the late 80's
name the ex-boxers and what they in for.

Mike Dokes= drugs
Jerry Evans= released from prison in early 90's, made a comeback at age 50
Jumbo Cummings= violated Illinois' three strikes law, and will be serving life imprisonment (think he stole a television set)
[forget his name]= murdered Max Kellerman's brother, probably best remembered for slugging his opponent AFTER the fight was over when he wasn't given the win; serving life
Don't know if you want a list of people in prison now or who ever went in...if its the case of the latter, I know lots of fighters who were in prison. Probably the earliest, most famous, example I can think of was Henry Pearce who went into a debtors prison, and was only released because his friend was the British champion and they did an exhibition in jail, so he could get enough interest from outside sources to pay off his debts.

That boxer would be James Butler.HomicideHenry wrote:Mike Dokes= drugs

I worked out as an amateur at that gym in about 79-80 something like that.DaveV17 wrote:Expug, did Oliver McCall train in that gym? Oliver told me that when he started boxing he was in a gym that Jumbo trained in. He said Jumbo had arms as big as his legs (Oliver's).
Some people claim that Jumbo couldn't punch, but I talked to a guy who fought Jumbo, Witherspoon, and Pinklon Thomas. He told me that anybody who sais Jumbo couldn't punch must not think Witherspoon or Thomas could punch either.
And, didn't Jumbo get sent off for life for robbing a Subway Restaurant?
I saw Jumbo in there a few times but he wasnt working out.
Just hanging out.
He was a very massive guy and had a real bad ass reputation.
I know he was away for murder for at least 10 years prior to that.
I have never met Oliver and I would say that both he and Jumbo probably worked out at The Windy City Gym or the Woodlawn Boys Club most of the time.
I never saw Oliver at The Fuller park gym either but he may have trained there in the evening.
I was always there in the afternoon.
The old CYO may have closed by the time Oliver turned pro.
It was a great gym that had both amateur and pros training there.
It was at Jackson and Racine just west of downtown.
The period I was there it was run by Sean Curtin , Tommy Oshea and Harry Wilson.
Some pros that trained there .
Johnny Lira
Luke Capuano
James Tillis
Al Porrata
Some others who Ive forgotten. And of course these fighters would also go to other gyms to train.
I think the last time out, Jumbo and a buddy robbed a sandwhich store with a baseball bat.
Jumbo taped the clerks mouth shut.
Supposedly he was messin with drugs at that point.

I was watching one of those reality cop shows(worst traffic stops) and an ex boxer got pissed and started beating on the cop,he ran away, tasered the guy which just made him madder. Finally the cop shot him which didn't really slow the guy down, the cop's gun jammed as he tried to shoot him again then the guy grabbed the gun from him and tried to shoot the cop but it was still jammed. Finally back up came and they arrested the guy.
The guy was Darroll Wilson, who came back against Shannon Briggs and Courage Tshabalala but not many others.
The show said he got 15 years.Must have been fairly recent as he last fought in 2006.

Michael Dokes was sentenced to 29 years (I think it was) for possession of drugs and beating up his wife.
I remember reading a story on it in which the police officer, who was a boxing fan, said Dokes had beat his wife far worse than he ever beat an opponent in the ring.
Michael Nunn got 24 years for trying to sell cocaine to an undercover cop.
James Page got 14 years for armed robbery.
Frank "The Animal" Fletcher's brother is on death row.
Hector Camacho got 7 years for theft.
Ricardo Williams is doing time - I don't recall for what or for how long.
Don Curry has been in and out of prision several times.
Just last week Elijah Tillery was sentenced to 9 years for posession of firearms.
We all know Ike Ibeabuchi and Tony Ayala's stories.
There's probably many more who never caught our attention.

Brian Paul, good friend of mine, he's in jail finishing up the remainder of his original sentence, as he squandered a deal where he could have gotten out by now had he done his rehab peacefully [he broke that by getting into a fight in rehab]. He wont get out until 2010. I believe the original conviction was drug trafficking or something to that nature.

may not be enlightening bennie buts its interesting.bennie wrote:This isn't an enlightening thread but I can't help thinking that Camacho is the dumbest criminal ever; jailed for seven years for breaking into a computer shop to retrieve his OWN computer (which was being mended).
In his defence, he was mashed out of his brains.
I think you have to remember that most boxers are not white collar workers and most have had stints of crime and law breaking.
all questions on forums are what keeps forums alive. it may not interest you but with some of the posts on this topic it seems to have interest from other members.
British TV presenter/actress. Don't think he was dating her, he used to date Jodie Marsh (Z-lister famous for turning up in the papers with her lungs ready for inspection) and he apparently used to beat her up.kikibalt wrote:Who is denise van houten?mimmy123 wrote:wasn't he dating denise Van houten at the timemercman wrote:British heavyweight Gary Delaney is currently in jail after killing someone whilst working as a club bouncer.
