What chance would Hatton have against Tszyu ??

Post by The Hawk »

We all seen Hatton and Mitchell at the weekend and talked about Hatton fighting Mitchell. If Hatton was to defeat Mitchell how would you rate his chances against Kostya Tszyu if he returns to the ring.

Do you think with Tszyu being in active, Hatton would have a shot of beating him in the next 6 - 10 months???

If Tszyu fought one warm up and then took on Hatton in say 7 months from now, I'd have to favour the champion strongly. In his pomp he was something else, I do have to say there have been signs of him slowing up (both Leijla and Urkal gave him harder fights than I expected - and Judah had him in fits with his speed very early on). Tszyu was mightly impressive against Tackie, but then Ben is a little overated.

However, I just think that at this moment Tszyu is a bit to strong and will soon get Hatton onto the back foot. Its certainly not out of the equation because Hatton's engine might be too much for Kostya, but the champ is great.

Tszyu KO 9 (at this moment, although I think Gatti might beat Tszyu).

You say all that about how Hatton wouldn't beat Tszyu and end it with Gatti might! :o :o :o

Gatti is slowing down and way too vulnerable to being hit. I fell Hatton would beat Gatti fairly comfortably. Come on, Micky Ward gave Gatti grief!!! Even Branco did! I think Dorin might just take him out!

Styles, Tszyu is stronger than Gatti no doubt, but can he handle the handspeed and movement of Gatti?

Micky Ward gave Gatti grief in the third fight cause he damaged his hand and the 1st fight he lacked displine, he learned for that and outclassed Micky in the 2nd fight. Micky Ward is and was a top ten fighter despite his limitations.

Branco is a tricky fighter who is far from bad, again Gatti had hand trouble but I thought he was in control of that throughout. Cricky if the movement and handspeed of Leijla made Tszyu think a little, what is Gatti going to do.

Of course, I say Gatti may beat Tszyu providing his hand troubles are behind him.

Gatti might not be invinsible but he has the style to trouble Tszyu, fast hands good footwork better chin than Judah - it will have to be Gatti the boxer. Remember the trouble Judah was causing?

I tip the Gatti of the 2nd Ward fight to beat Tszyu and Hatton, he might struggle with someone more awkard like a Mitchell or someone as smooth as a Cotto, but he would perplex Tszyu and Hatton with his blinding flurries.

Tszyu is a league above all the fighters mentioned above, He has been the best fighter in this division for the past 10 years and has seen off better fighters than Gatti and Hatton. Although he looked bad against Leija early he was starting to dominate when Lieja quit, Hatton has not fought anyone that is as tough mentally as Tszyu and Tszyu would make Hatton look like a fighter out of his depth, Hatton is a good fighter but Tszyu is beetr in every department and i think that Tszyu would win by TKO in around 7-8 rounds.

Tszyu has been at the top for a long while now and i think that's where the questions are Ben. As Stu says he has not looked at his best in his most recent fights.
A few years ago i wouldn't have given Hatton a chance to rule this division, but with Tszyu and Mitchell coming to the end, and Judah moving up, Hatton has a real chance if Warren makes the fights quickly.
On the subject of Gatti, i just feel that his best days are far behind him now. I think that if Hatton (or Cotto, for that matter) can get him by the end of the year it could be a decent scalp on their record.

I would favour Hatton. Zoo is ready for the taking, he's well into his 30's, has been very inactive.

In fact, I'd be surprised if Zoo ever fights again.

Well, in fairness, he has f**k all to prove to you, me or anybody....

I think suggesting Hatton beats Kostya (who is "ready for the taking") is a bit wide of the mark, but admittedly someone else will come through shortly in the division.

Sadly for Ricky fans, it won't be the pie-faced mancunian, but one Miguel Cotto....

I'd back Cotto or Hatton to beat Zoo and Mitchell.

For me Cotto is more polished than Hatton, but we dont know how he will react if Ricky can put him in the trenches. Equally, we dont know how Hatton will react to being outgunned by a sharp counterpuncher like Cotto.

Makes for a fascinating fight.

Guys guys slow down on Cotto, we are yet to see him in wiuh a decent light welter, yes he looks phenomonal in beating lightweights, how come hatton gets slated for fighting pederson, a lightweight just below top class, lost to spadafora on points, stops him in six and yet cotto fights Sosa (who also lost on points to Spadafora), another lightweight not at the top level just under and he is amazing?????
The other thing is that no-one seems to have picked up is how one handed Cotto is, he is so left oriented down to the fact he fucked his right arm in a car crash. These little things can get shown up when you step up a level i.e. you only have one arm thats effective.
He looks fantastic agreed but there still are major question marks here.
Everyone is talking like he has already unified the belts.

Tszyu is way too good for Hatton at this point, I think he'd knock him out in 3 or 4 rounds. Don't get me wrong Hatton is good but Tszyu hits a lot harder than guys that have hurt Ricky.

Hatton against Mitchell is a good one, close fight but I think Hatton can win.

deponds on how Kostya recovers form his injury to be honest.
Mihgt not be the same fighter you dunno. It was obviously serious enough to break his career for six months and at Kostya's age you dont heal as quick.
This is a bit of a hyperthetical question to be honest cos Hatton wont fight K next and K wont fight hatton next, so its gonna be at least another year before they meet.

Fair enough! Won't disagree with that - I'd forgotten about his frail hands!

well seeing as its doubtful whether Kostya will fight again (November being touted as his earliest comeback date and even then it may well be a farewell fight in Russia) I'd say you are right but probably not for the same reasons!!!

Kostya hasn't really looked special in a while, he's a technically very correct fighter, but he was struggling against Leija before he quit, and the fight against Mitchell was inconclusive due to the premature ending.

Kostya will have been inactive for almost 2 years by the time he comes back, and I just cannot see him being the same fighter he was before that long layoff. He may still have too much for Hatton, but there is no way it's as one-sided as the ill-named 'theguru' would have us believe.

Due to injury etc I think Hatton would have a very good chance with him although im not saying he would win....Mitchell IMO will beat Hatton but thats just a feeling rather than any real thought into the fight.

Cotto will in the next few years become the divisions premier fighter.

Yep, I aint embarresed by that call.

A non weight drained 140 lbs Gatti was a dangerous fighter... okay Mayweather whupped him... but then Mayweather dominated vs Ricky also.

Pity we never got to see it.

It would have been a decent fight, battle of the worst defenses and slowest attack, Gatti wins that battle but loses the fight, although he may score some decent shots along the way

I like Gatti but in this match-up he would take up his customary post-big fight position, weeping in the corner, on the canvas, or whilst being assisted to his corner by the referee.
Customary - oh yeah, vs DLH and Mayweather possibly 2 of the 3 finest fighters of the last 20 years. The DLH fight at a weight in which Gatti wasn't particularly strong at.

He was past it for the last two fights.

His other defeats... was 1 cuts stoppage and the rest were razor tight (could have gone either way) decisions.

Yeah customary... try telling that to Tracey Harris Patterson, Reulas, Millett, Dorin, Leija, etc
