Last Night's Eurosport

Must say i enjoyed last night's Eurosport coverage from 8.30 - 10.15 from two different bills. Dane Lasse Johansen looked a decent fighter in the first fight but failed to put away German extrovert Bruce Ozbek over 6, Johansen displayed a good jab and punch picking skills yet appeared to lack that vital killer touch, but still he was only in his eigth fight after all.

We have a new star of the Heavyweight division! Thomas Bonin of Poland looked the real deal....not He is 23-0 and stopped Pavel Vanacek quicker than anyone else has in a round, however Vanacek was clearly a body builder and blown up Cruiserweight who improved his record to 1-6 so i don't think we will hold our breath on Bonin just yet

In the main event Zsolt Erdei looked really classy in taking Julio Gonzalez's Light Heavyweight WBO crown. Erdei who is 29 and Hungarian based in the fatherland showed good skills, fast hands and great defensive prowess. Steve Holdsworth didn't have him dropping a round and that was about right, he made Gonzalez look slow and mechanical and anything but a world operator who earned a crack at Roy Jones....watch this space on Erdei.

Onto the second bill and Ukranian prospect Alexander Dimitrenko beat American roll-over Jeff Pegues in one round wich gave Holdsworth the chance to spin out his endless one liners about Pegues inability to fight. I was quite looking forward to seeing 21 year old Dimitrenko in action but this fight told us nothing about how good he may become.

And finally.....Wlad Klitschko stopped Danell Nicholson in four round with a decent display of punch picking. We all know that Wlad has the offensive tools but it remains to be seen whether he can take a punch yet which is a problem. Nicholson came to survive and collect his money and the only highlight of the fight was the appearance of John Coyle as ref! Always a pleasure....anyone care to add anything?

I thought Wlad looked very gun shy in there Steve - so tentative, even with the hopeless American in front of him.
Not sure he's woken up from his Sanders nightmare yet.
I think a rematch with Corrie might see the same result, so I think they're wise to stick him in with the less dangerous Brewster in the meantime.

True MW did look a little gunshy and every fight i see him he seems scared when anyone throws back like it's all going to happen again! But i have always admired his skills and he does still have the power, he showed decent punch picking to finish the fight but Nicholson was looking for a way out.

Tomasz Bonin is a parody on a heavyweight prospect.

As for Johansen, he looks fairly decent, don't forget Bruce Ozbek can't be killed with conventional weapons, former world kickboxing champ.
Johansen looked a bit like his countryman Jesper Kristiansen. Good jab but a bit stiff in the upper body. However I would say Johansen was more versatile in the combinations and showed decent footwork.

It hurts to see Jeff Pegues in the ring, I feel sorry for him. At least he gets some money out of it

Yeah Pegues looked a little helpless and Steve Holdsworth the commantator was laying into him, he said "He's on the canvas but he will be ok, he's used to it down there and likes the view" and when he got up he said "Pegues is thinking, wow i haven't been hit like that since...well my last fight and the one before that" Lol, all good fun.

I set a reminder to make sure I didn't miss Erdei (thanks for the info Real Deal ) and wasn't disappointed - he was smooth, classy and as Steve said, make Gonzalez look limited and one dimensional.

I hope that they look towards Antonio Tarver to confirm who is the best Light Heavy post Jones..
