Braithwaite v Hernandez

This fight slipped under my radar, and stumbled across the result on fightnews.com

"Former WBC cruiserweight champion Wayne "Big Truck" Braithwaite (23-3, 19 KOs) scored a spectacular third round TKO over previously unbeaten Cuban Olympian Yoan Pablo Hernandez (14-1, 8 KOs). Hernandez dropped Braithwaite in round one and dominated that round. Braithwaite recovered in round two as both fighters traded bombs. Braithwaite then continued to throw heavy leather and floored Hernandez twice in the third round before the bout was stopped. Time was 1:52. Braithwaite claimed Hernandez' WBA Fedelatin belt"

Sounds like it was a bit of a war. Did anyone see this fight? I have never seen Hernandez but heard good things, what kind of fighter is he?

Looks Big Truck might be back in contention for a belt soon. Makes Maccarienllis victory look a bit better now.

There are several other YPH fights on youtue to familiarise yourself with the Cuban exile.

He is tall rangy, with quick hands and an unusual, almost crab-like, defensive guard - maybe he had misgivings about his chin and was looking to protect it?

He looked tasty in previous outings and was developing nicely but may have been guilty of taking Big Truck too lightly.

He can learn from the loss though and come again if his heart is in the game.

Good on Braithwaite for taking it out of the referees hands, that was a bit of a bizarre incident.

Nice scalp for Braithwaite, guess this puts him back in the picture,
makes Enzo Mac's win look a little bit better aswell considering everyone
was saying Big Truck was past it.

Great fight. Can Hernandez regroup Haye style, learn to concentrate during a bout and use his assets in size to full advantage?

I think YPH has fast hands but he looks very lumbering, a bit of a giant lump in spite of physical talent.

Yes I think he will, he still looks a massive talent in the threadbare crusier division, assuming he takes it as a lession like Haye did, and regroups.

A lot of similarities to the Haye/Thompson fight in fact ( plus WB even looks a bit like Carl T, even more so the way he staggers about off balance, but still throws TNT punches back ) both DH and Hernandez had the big first round, battering the other guy, then both got overconfident as a result, and tried to end it early, coming unstuck spectacularly.

Lots of vacant titles floating about at cruiser soon, which is why his trainer looked so exasparated at the end no doubt.

Even with that result, I doubt FW fancies putting Enzo in with the Cuban puncher down the road.

Talking of cruisers coming back i see that British born Ola Afolabi is scheduled to fight hot prospect Eric Fields on 12th April.

Strange one Ola Afolabi, he scored a career best win over Orlin Norris in 2005, but hasn't fought since.

Eric Fields recently Ko'd faded former champ Kelvin Davis inside a round.

I'm a big fan of Fields. I watched the Davis fight a few weeks ago and this kid looks like the future. Haye stature and power.

I really wanna see him fight Ding-A-Ling. Hopefully he'll post on here again soon so I can ask him whether he's interest. I read somewhere he'll be vying for the WBA crown when Haye officially moves up.

I know what you mean about Fields, he does look good, but i hope they don't rush him into a title fight , just because he took out a shot Davis inside a round. Have to say though Fields did put his finishing punches together well that night, the uppercut looked great.

He needs to get some rounds under his belt as his last 3 fights have all ended inside a round.
He may end up blowing out after a few rounds, like Haye v Thompson, if he's rushed into title shot.

What with Fields, Flores, Maccarinelli, Banks, Troy Ross, Alexander Alexeev . I'd still say the Crusiers are a live division
