Also Jamie held the PABA and Pan African title - the only regional WBA belt he didn't have was Fed Latin.

Pittman beat Gare who just beat Masoe the former WBA champion by stoppage.

Pittman beat PABA champion Gonzales......can't beat more than the title holder.

Pittman beat Mashego, who defeated Gare and went he distance (and won rounds) off Sturm.

Pittmans last fight was the easiest of the 4 against Seran, in saying this Serans next fight he won with a 1st round KO of Sam Setu.

Marlin, I ask you this, is Pittman not the best WBA aligned middleweight in the Southern Hemishpere ???

Do you think Sturms people see him as the toughest option of the top 15....no, well that answers your question.

Go Pittman - do us Aussies proud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thats should answer your question

Gare is a joke, Masoe is like 45 now so what does that prove. Pittman dosnt belong in the top 15 regardless of your so called facts. Mashego beating Gare just proves how shit he really is.

I hope Pittman does well but he dosnt deserve the shot and he may be getting thrown to the lions.

Mashego and Gare beat any other Aussie at Middle except for maybe Daniel Geale.

Just wondering Ben, how many times have you seen Mashego and / or Gare fight???

kkr, I posted this to you a while back and you never replied:
William Gare is 22-14 with 4 KO's, he is certainly no world beater.

I see you fogot to mention the 0-3 Komgrit Nanakorn, I wonder why?

Nonoy Gonzales is very average as his 22-20-2 record would suggest. You also don't mention that Topp has a win over him as well.

Tshepo Mashego 15-8 also has a loss to William Gare and has fought as low as 143lbs, he would not beat most middles in Aus, you are kidding.

Andreas Seran 6-5-1 he is not the sort of opponent you would brag about.
Face it bloke Pittman's record is not flash, certainly not world class.

Also, I never slagged Pittman off and your 'facts' are nothing more than tainted opinions...

At the end of they day the WBA is just that and as we have seen of late you dont have to deserve a shot to get one(not saying thats a good thing but just the way it is).
With so many fighters dicking around fighting well below their standard(worlds greatest athlete included)i say good on him for taking it(as if he wouldnt)and hope he accounts for himself well.certainly nice to see him stepping up his class of opponent and not protecting a 0 loss record. Will
improve more from a loss than 20 wins against the usual fare most aussie boxers get to fight with.
But certainly not a deserved shot.Way i see it that out of the 4 major belts the WBA has taken over from thhe WBO as wooden spooner.

Anyway-go JP :box: :box: :box:

He did say of the 4 major belts. Can't remember the last time someone call the WBU or WBF a major belt.

When you look at Sturm's record, who did he win his title from?

Masoe.

Then he lost it to an aging Castilejo and won it back from him.

And he beat Gavin Topp. Big deal!

Jamie must be at the end of his preparation and heading over for the fight. Has anyone heard how his prep went?

Only the Central Coast received this following press report in their local "sausage wrapper": The Express Advocate:

Pittman to woo crowd in Sturm showdown

Friday 28 March, 2008 12:00am

JAMIE Pittman will be a man on a mission inside and out of the ring when he completes final preparations for his world championship showdown with Felix Sturm on April 5.

Pittman left for Germany on Wednesday and winning over the German crowd for the showdown in Dusseldorf is one of his major objectives.

The unbeaten slugger believes winning over the German crowd for the World Boxing Association middleweight crown is a vital step to becoming one of the biggest names in Australian sport.

More than 10,000 fans are expected for one of the biggest bouts in Germany this year.

"In Germany, Sturm is a bit like Anthony Mundine in Australia," Pittman said before jetting out.

"People love to hate him. A part of my fight plan is to try and win over the German people during the week leading up to the fight.

"I'll train with kids and do whatever I can to get them on side.

"During the fight I'll come out of the blocks and win them over. He won't be able to handle that."

For years Pittman has been dreaming about winning a world title. He is unbeaten as a professional and is fast establishing a reputation as one of the country's most exciting young athletes.

Victory in Dusseldorf would be the culmination of years of dedication in the toughest of sports.

"This is what I've wanted all my life, a crack at a major world title," the 2004 Olympian said.

"It's a chance I won't let go. I've known about the fight since early January and the training has been perfect. Since January 4, I've been training three times a day, every day of the week.

"Pound for pound I think he is the best middleweight in the world but that'll all change on April 5 after that day I'll hold the title."

Pittman, who has sparred more than 100 rounds during his preparation, said the key to winning was establishing his jab in the early rounds.

"This fight can set me up for life," he said.

"He's already got millions of dollars and I don't think he'll be hungry.

"I know I will be.

"I'll be throwing hundreds of punches every round."

I agree, like him or not, Sturm has a high level of class. Alot of people thought he beat (me included) ODLH. Jamie needed a better stepping stone (or two). But I truly hope I'm wrong.
