I have a contemporary newspaper article saying Gorilla Jones W-10 Tommy Freeman in Cleveland, Aug. 15, 1928. BoxRec has a Sept. 13 bout between the two. Did they have two during this time and the Aug. 15 bout didn't get included? Can someone double-check these two bouts, please? Thanks, Ric

The August 16th edition of this paper -- THE EVERETT DAILY HERALD (of Everett, Washington), in its column entitled "Fistic Results" of the day before -- listed a number of bouts coming out of Cleveland. These include the Gorilla Jones one I mentioned, plus two others I have entered. (Do a date search for Aug. 15, 1928, and you will learn the two other bouts I entered of what appears to be the same Cleveland fight card.) This newspaper article clearly states Jones' opponent to be "Tommy Freeman, Cleveland."
Yes, it could be an error. But, to my mind, it is the kind of report that needs to be double and triple-checked, preferably by researching primary sources. Perhaps the best source would be a contemporary Cleveland newspaper account. Does anyone have access to such archives?
AFter all is said and done, this may result in a little-known Gorilla Jones' bout, a red herring, or just another a dead-end.
Whatever the outcome, ain't this fun?!

I think someone with better knowledge than I possess should go through Jones' record and clean it up. There appear to be many NDs mixed with wins/losses in the same state, like Ohio, for example. Ohio had only NDs in 1928 and before, right? Pennsylvania, too?
