There are two ways to look at the fight. Hopkins is a wiley character and could make it very close and tough for Calzaghe who is stepping up and fighting Hopkins at a weight Hopkins is used to now and IN AMERICA. So who knows what the judges will do.

Then you could say that Hopkins is way past it and will get overwhelmed. I have to admit, for a while I thought 1/2 on Calzaghe was VALUE but now I am leaning towards Hopkins. Mainly because he is savvy and will definately have a plan and has a granite chin and has never been dominated.

I'd have my grand on Hopkins.
he might never have been dominated but then he ain't boxed Joe Calzaghe before. Hopkins has 2 chances to win this fight, slim and none, and slim just left town. So I suppose the answer is my grand would be on a Calzaghe victory, he's just too good to get jobbed IMO.

yes my grand would be on calzaghe too. its a easy fight for Joe in my opinion, took this fight at the right time. 3 or 4 years ago i would go for Bernard. This is a clever move for the calzaghe camp a great name on your record and its looks brill on paper.

I want Calzaghe to win - despite heavy criticsms in the past - I really want the lad to win!!! - in addition Hopkins is one arrogant w*nker and it would be great to see him get whooped.

Said it before though and will say it again - 5/2 on Hopkins is a good bet - I have convinced myself that the judges will rob Calzaghe blind - Calzaghe will win the fight alright but how many times have the judge seen a completely different fight.

A very well know trainer of a multi world champion is completely convinced Hopkins will take Calzaghe to school - argued for a good 15 minutes with him that I could not see this - gave him by robbing judges theory and he could see my thinking.

Spud, no disrespect but you don't have to keep the trainer's name annonymous... it was in the last edition of Boxing Monthly.

Fair enough if Adam Booth is joined by another trainer of A multi world champion who thinks Calzaghe will get schooled.

5/2? that sounds very wide to me. Hopkins is about 7/4 isn't he?

It would have to be Calzaghe. I think the fight will go 12 rounds and Calzaghe's conditioning will shine through in the later rounds.

certainly not a foregone conclusion though... close fight, full 12 rounds is my prediction..

Calzaghe will win it, no doubt. His hand speed alone, will off set Hopkins, as I dont see Bernard at this stage of his life being able to keep up with that kind of pace and tempo for 12 rounds...

A draw isn't beyond the realms of possibility.

I strongly favour Calzaghe, but Hopkins is far more live in this fight than anyone is giving him credit for.

He just beat two southpaws, one of whom hit much harder than Calzaghe, he's tall, strong, granite chinned and has a stiff right hand that Calzaghe will walk on to, he's brilliant inside and is on home territory.

Age is irrelevant.

Calzaghe has the style and speed to win, but isn't a foregone conclusion.

I have a feeling Hopkins could just be a bit too smart for Calzaghe. Joe himself has said that Hopkins has the cagey style to make him look bad. I can see Joe coming in with flurries trying to opening him up and being countered by overhand rights (also been a bit of a weakness for Joe) from Hopkins who'll also tie him up when in close. Hopkins is a master at keeping the right distance and Joe is not hard to catch when he is having to push the action.

I hope Joe wins it, have liked his attitude of late, not just saying he's the best but going forward and proving it. Also I felt both Lacy and Kessler would beat Joe so what do I know...

Lenny, I'm right with you.

Calzaghe has to box, use his handspeed from distance, if he comes piling in, Hop has the straight right to stiffen him up.

Calzaghe is under pressure to entertain, Hop wont be, which plays in to the old foxes hands.

My money would be on a Hopkins decision as 5/5 is good odds, so decision will be even better.

How can age be irrelevant Dave, that's a ridiculous comment.

Judging from Joes last performance, his activeness will prevail into a points win..

Kinda simalar how JT secured a win against Hoppy!!
I know that Joe is carefully looking at JT'S performance against bernard!

It's irrelevant in this fight IMO.

Is Joe more effective now than he was five years ago?

Is Hopkins less of a fighter than when he fought Tito?

I just dont think Hopkins age is an issue.

He fights in certain way and largely, always has. Precise, economic and dangerous and rough on the inside.

Not sure about it being a clever move, it has been a burning ambition of Joes to fight Hopkins for years now. Joe pleaded with Hopkins quite a few years ago to fight him but Hopkins told Joe to get in line behind all the others who wanted the chance. Finally Joe has a big enough name in America and Hopkins has finally agreed. For Joe its a dream come true but I think Joe would have preferred fighting him in his prime rather than at 43. Even so Hopkins is still good enough to give Joe problems. My money would have to go on Joe for a points win. No way will Joe get a KO victory, but one mistake, a bit of showboating and Hopkins might.

Kessler caught Joe with a very good uppercut and it had very little effect. I don't see Hopkins knocking out Calzaghe.

I agree Hopkins is not a big puncher and Joes chin is good.

My money would also be on Calzaghe on points. It has been a very long time since Hopkins has been in the ring with anybody that has a work rate near as high as Calzaghes.
