Andrew Facey goes for English title double

Post by bennie »

English light-middleweight champion Andrew "Smiley" Facey goes for the vacant English middleweight title when he meets Wayne Pinder on the Tony Dodson-Carl Froch bill in Nottingham on March 13.

Could be another 'upset' in the works. From what I've seen of Facey, he's an underated fighter (at domestic level anyway), and despite the knockdown he scored against J Moore being a bit dodgy, he can supposedly whack a bit.

Perminant move to middle this? It could be a good thing - despite the light Middles being exposed I don't quite think Facey is good enough to win the bigger domestic honours at the weight.

At Middle, its a different story. Facey compares favourably to the likes of Farnell, Groenwald, Bendall and Dann (IMO). Just worried whether he'll have the durability/strength at the bigger weight.

Facey is useful. By all accounts, the multiple knockdowns against Moore were a result of intense pain through getting his teeth cracked during the first knockdown. Whether that's the case, only Facey and his people know, but he certainly didn't look really wobbled by the knockdowns (except the first) so it's either true or the man has great powers of recovery. I've only seen Pinder once, in his loss to Damon Hague, and was unimpressed, although I suppose it's not really fair to rate him on that one blow-out. Facey on points.

One day, Chris Sanigar will pull his finger out and get Scott Dann these kind of fights...

He started off at Light Heavy (i think!) so I can't see this being a problem.

Fair points, its just a worry I have with all fighters moving up - hopefully there is nothing to worry about.

Andrew can fight at any weight from LM to LH.
Look at his record to verify that.
Wonder who could step in for an English LM fight when the belt is vacant ?
Now let me think.
Could it be a stable mate called Ryan Rhodes ?

Is Facey vacating the light-middle belt, Kieran?

Thats a bit tight on you there Peter, I was going to post on here to say, I hope Jacko gets a shout for the English title.

I thought Ryan was staying a middle, for me at his age (I know he's only 26or something, but is peaking now) I think he's mature enough to fit his natural middleweight frame.

Jacko,
I don't get this.
The fight was set as for the English Middleweight title against Rhodes, and you blew it being unable to do the weight.
Why is that everyone else's fault ?

Kieran get your facts right before you accuse chap...1) I pulled out ILL against Ryan, but it was for that title yes you are right 2) I was promised by John Ingle that i would be fighting for that title against someone of less class than Ryan other words an more even matched oppenent after xmas.
3) i learned that Facey (an ingle fighter) is now boxing for it.
Thats why i was SLIGHTLEY upset.I am not crying or complaining i am simpling stating facts.
JOHN INGLE just phoned me and put me right about the situation.
THANK YOU JOHN!!!!!!!!
