Firstly, he ain't David Beckham and his career earnings would surely not be that high considering his only really good pay days (ie over 1 million) were the US fights after Tsyzu so thats a gross exaggeration from a Witter fan.Chambers2 wrote:You'd make a cracking Boxing Promoter Chris........ but a shit British Boxing fan IMO. Hattons already earned about £30m in his career why is money still his sole objective in the sport, especially considering his humble 'Man of the People' lifestyle. A boxers life is a short one at the top - you can't blame a guy for going for the dollar sign..
If I could bank 25 million you could stand outside my house all day long calling me chicken and I'd be laughing my ass off thinking "yeah a rich one though.. "...
Spud, most of the casual fans still think Hatton's the bees knees, but IMO even they will start to turn (are starting to turn) when the truth about Hattons ducking comes to light on and around May 10th
Secondly, its just cold harsh facts - Witter needs him whereas he doesn't need Witter financially. In fact Witter could harm his potential earning power at this stage even if he wins messy it could lead to rematch clauses etc because of it being a WBC title.
PLUS IT TELLS A STORY THAT WITTER IS THE CHAMP & HE'S DESPERATE FOR HATTON, WHY? IT AIN'T FOR THE GLORY ITS FOR THE £ SO LETS BE COMPLETELY HONEST ABOUT THAT!! He's WBC Champ but boxing is all about bums on seats and without Hatton he can't do it - FACT.
Thirdly, Witter hasn't been champ that long yet so perhaps in a year if Witters still got the title and Hatton has had his money spinners in the States then it could happen.
Hattons got more sense than to let his ego get the better of him at this stage. I think the Witter fight will be the career defining fight that happens in a year or two before one or both retire.
I am a boxing fan but I am also a realist - money talks in boxing and in fighting Witter he's got nothing to win and everything to lose so why not wait till he's got nothing to lose..
My prediction is Summer 2009 or 10 - Witter then retirement for Hatton..
