Lets just say that during his better years as a LHW RJJ decided to step up and face the big men as he ultimately did in 03. One opponent as we all no doubt can recall was former HW champion Douglas.
Jones Jr fast, clever and destined for more years at the top will be much lighter and smaller.
Douglas past his best, though big and powerful now placed in a position in the spot light again.
Who do you think wins this one over 10 rounds.

RJJ doesn't pack a big heavyweight whack like Savarese, although he is superior in every other department to Lou.
It would be harder for RJJ back then to beef up to the 200lbs he did years later in his mid-30s v John Ruiz.
Assuming Douglas came in shape (against Savarese he had laid off a year and tried shed way too much weight in the desert) he certainly has a punchers chance, although at this stage in his life pushing 40 i'm sure RJJ could of pot shotted his way to a 12 rd decision.
RJJ against a prime Douglas would get bludgeoned though.

This fight almost did happen in fact, as Jones abandoned the 175 division, only to return and say he never left, and the titles that were won by another man were taken from him and handed back to Jones, saying that it was a typographical error.
I think, though, Jones would have won. Douglas in his comeback was lackluster and had just come out of a diabetic coma a few years before. Jones would have had every advantage over him, just like he did against John Ruiz who was limited in his abilities.
Jones knew one thing, and that was he could beat only certain fighters, each one had a catch to them, so that he wouldn't be denied success and the victory. Had he fought Douglas, it would have been because he knew without a doubt he would have won...but as he proved after beating Ruiz, he wasn't in for the long haul. He wasnt going to fight Lewis, let alone Byrd, or the Klitschko's or even Holyfield, despite all the talk.

if you mean by certain fighters, everyone, then yes he could only beat certain fighters. he tried to make fights with holyfield and lewis after the ruiz victory but couldn't. holyfield didn't want to sign with don king again at that time and lewis refused since he was at near the end of his career.HomicideHenry wrote:This fight almost did happen in fact, as Jones abandoned the 175 division, only to return and say he never left, and the titles that were won by another man were taken from him and handed back to Jones, saying that it was a typographical error.

Roy was never goona fight Lennox, bruh. Who told you that? Roy? I'm a fan of the man myself (I know what it was to defend him when he was still champ, many bitter memories
), but a fight with Lewis wasn't ever gonna happen, nor should Roy be penalised for that.
C'mon, though, you don't really believe he would've fought Lennox, do you?

i think if the money was right it could have happened. roy would have had to get $50 mil to take that fight. lennox said that jones approached him about the fight but it was never discussed beyond that point. lennox would have been a heavy favorite but if he came in shape like he did for vitali, roy could have ran from him all night and lennox might have passed out. :)Goodnight, Irene wrote:Roy was never goona fight Lennox, bruh. Jones announced that he wasn't going to fight at heavyweight 1.5 months before the Rocchigiani-Nunn fight (announced on Feb. 4, Roc-Nunn were originally scheduled to fight on Feb. 7, then rescheduled to March 21).HomicideHenry wrote:This fight almost did happen in fact, as Jones abandoned the 175 division, only to return and say he never left, and the titles that were won by another man were taken from him and handed back to Jones, saying that it was a typographical error.

Hey hey! Looks like we've got another member with the old 'selective memory' problem.
