Raymond Ochieng vs Rogers Yamba
Raymond Ochieng vs Rogers Yamba
A recent fight between heavyweight Rogers Yamba from DRC and Raymond Ochieng from Kenya was scheduled for 22nd March 2008 at Charter Hall, Nairobi, Kenya. The record was scheduled on boxrec.
To my dismay the fight seems to have been suspiciously removed from the records as if it had never happened. Raymond Ochieng's records indicate that there is another scheduled bout for the 12th of this month yet the former record is mysteriously missing. I have tried to seek the intervention of the fight promoter and several Kenyan boxing officials but they all seem unable to help.
All the other fights on that day have all been duly updated with the odd exception of that particular fight, which clearly reads mischief. For instance, boxers Douglas Otieno and Shadrack Kipruto who fought that day and won have their records intact.
A simple Google search will confirm my claims. Please revert to one of the search results below (Raymond Ochieng vs Rogers Yamba):

I would appreciate if you could assist to resolve this matter.
Thanks in advance for your consideration.

There never was any report of the result in the Kenyan press. In fact, the whole card was ignored and I entered the other results from Ugandan news sources. Since neither Ochieng or Yamba is Ugandan, they had no info about that fight. If you have some press info about a result (other than what was posted by the promoter), please let us know.
I was right...this is a mystery
@ emile and Anton, i knew there was something fishy from the start. If you like i can send you scanned press clippings from the Daily Nation (Kenyan Neswpaper) and a copy of the video of the fight. Will that suffice?
After giving you this information i think it will be important for boxrec.com to immediately carry out an investigation as to how such an error (if it was one...which i doubt) occured. This means that someone has intentionally manipulated the system which brings issues of the credibility of some editors...

Hi sizzla,
I had seen all of those links from the African newspapers already. As I said before, I never saw any posted results from the Kenyan newspapers. I'm not sure what you mean by intentional manipulation?
As I mentioned earlier, I'm the one who put the fights on the schedule, and I'm the one who entered the results that we have - which came from Ugandan press reports. There was no intent to leave off the Ochieng-Yamba fight - in fact I spent a lot of time trying to find results for that fight, to no avail.
If you have scanned press clippings that state the result of the fight, please fax or email them to BoxRec and we will get the fight entered as soon as possible. Fight videos are also always welcome. I typically do not enter results posted by independent boxing fansites, although another editor may find that satisfactory, depending on the source. It is the policy of the site to not accept results directly from promoters or managers.
EDIT - In case this is not clear - scheduled fights with no result are removed from the system after one week. This is why the fight was previously posted and is no longer.

...any news?
Have sent the press clipping to Anton and boxrec. Please confirm receipt of the same, thanx.
Yeah, the Kenyan online papers never had anything, but the Ugandan papers had info about their local fighters. Usually the Kenyan press has something about big cards, not sure what happened with this one.sizzla wrote:@emile, thanks for the clarification, will e-mail the press clippings ASAP
I also noted you got the details from Ugandan sources, yet the fight was in Kenya?
I will let you know when the result gets added. Thanks for your help.
