DID NIGEL BENN GET LUCKY ?
DID NIGEL BENN GET LUCKY ?
WHEN I THINK ABOUT IT HOW DID NIGEL BENN AFTER 2 CLEAN LOSSES ( GETTING DOMINATED ) GO ON TO MAKE MILLIONS AND CONTINUE HIS 'CELEBRITY' LIFESTYLE ? EVEN AFTER ANOTHER 2 CLEAN LOSSES HE GOT ANOTHER 'WORLD' TITLE FIGHT IN FRONT OF 22000 AT MEN ARENA--QUITTIN ON HIS STOOL
MCLELLAN WAS WEIGHT DRAINED, PUNCHED HIMSELF OUT ND HAD A BLOODCLOT AND WAS STILL BEATING HIM
THE BARKLEY WHO FOUGHT HEARNS ON PPV IN 1992 WOULD OF BEATEN NIGEL TO A PULP IMO

Hilarious. After the McClellan fight, his record was 40-1-2 with 10 world title wins - that doesn't come by luck. Neither does rendering 35 human heads unconscious.
Nobody wins world titles abroard and defends them successfully against Barkley, Eubank and McClellan on luck.
Benn and Barkley did fight, and Benn did poleaxe him with the first punch of the fight, and beat him in the first round, and have Michael Buffer then declare it as 'arguably the greatest one-round fight in the history of boxing' on the mic. Boxing is about what does fornicating happen.
Even in defeat, he left Watson's arms bruised to fornicate and Eubank close to death. After two rounds, Doug DeWitt's ear was BLUE... and Benn had already taken a knockdown!
Just a stupid post, matey. Lucky? I don't know what to say. Just stupid. Stupid.

Friend, you try winning a professional boxing match, let alone two professional boxing world titles, let alone defend professional boxing world titles 10 times. Luck doesn't come into it. You'd have been stone cold on the canvas in 6 or 7 seconds if you fought Nigel Benn. Yeah? Wanker.
It takes a lot of bottle to even get into the ring, which I doubt you've ever done.

McClellan was weight drained haha what nonsense - he was moving up a division.
Benn was old and faded when Steve Collins beat him. Infact Collins biggest wins are over shopworn champions.
Benn went to the US and gave beatings to DeWitt and Barkley. He went to Italy and won a World title (not an easy thing to do). He beat many tough opponents in his time and hand underated skills to go along with explosive power.
He was at the top for many years so if he was a bad as Crew made out this wouldn't have been possible.
Crew son , study up as your lack of knowledge is woeful, either that or take up watching Hockey as you know jack about boxing.

To be fair,McClellan was quite weight drained,he weighed himself at Peacock gym eight days before with the press there and was 12st10. But then again apprently he used to come into the ring at 180+ at Middle and remain chiseled,so maybe he always did it. And to be fair,McClellan was not as sharp in the Benn fight as he was in the Jackson blow out at MGM. I've found that if you look at Benn/Dewitt and then Benn/Eubank I you see a massive change in Benn's sharpness-much sharper against Dewitt-and a massive change in McClellan if you look at McClellan/Jackson II and then Benn/McClellan,McClellan being much sharper against Jackson. Not taking anything away from Nigel, though! When you hear his hideous list of injuries after the McClellan fight from doctors you realise just how inhumanly deep he would have had to have dug that night! That sealed Benn's greatness whether you like it or not!

Now i'm starting to understand threads earlier in the week about an influx of cretins.Al Savani wrote:a massive change in McClellan if you look at McClellan/Jackson II and then Benn/McClellan,McClellan being much sharper against Jackson.
Julian Jackson collapsed under McClellans signature opening barrage, and stayed down just long enough to ensure he was counted out.
Benn collapsed under McClellans opening barrage but got back up, and came back swinging. Shitty ref, dirty fight, but G-Man was G-Man.
By your logic Tyson declined in 86 since Jose Ribalta hung 10 rds right after he blew out Marvis Frazier in 30 secs.

McCellan always weight drained which made him bigger and stronger than his opponents. Weight drained fighters may become weakened late but lets not pretend they arent weight drained for any other reason than to get an advantage over their opponent
As for BEnn being lucky, I thought he pretty unlucky against Watson if you see the fight. And as for Benn quiting against Watson/Eubank - pure ignorance but I sense we have a troll in our mist gentlemen

Your blatently on a wind up but he only took the Collins fights as he was getting paid good money, heart wasn't in Boxing anymore.Crew2 wrote:WHEN I THINK ABOUT IT HOW DID NIGEL BENN AFTER 2 CLEAN LOSSES ( GETTING DOMINATED ) GO ON TO MAKE MILLIONS AND CONTINUE HIS 'CELEBRITY' LIFESTYLE ? He wasn't getting paid good money relative to what he was used to for the Collins challenges. Less than half of what he was on when he was champion.
He was still full of rage inside and wanted to scrap, simple as that. His kidneys were still bleeding in the Collins fights from the McClellan fight, and there was scar tissue on his brain that yet to heal from the McClellan fight (that caused his balance to be shot to shit in his last five fights - he was falling over his own punches against Nardiello and Collins, and Malinga was holding him up).

Not even close.Stocks wrote:He got paid pretty well if I remember rightly, I may be wrong though but the figures 800k and 600k spring to mindSTP wrote:He wasn't getting paid good money relative to what he was used to for the Collins challenges. Less than half of what he was on when he was champion.

Both Benn and Eubank were a class above Collins in their prime.03mcgs0 wrote:WelshDevil wrote:McClellan was weight drained haha what nonsense - he was moving up a division.

He just got lucky and timing was key in his career.
He got Benn and Eubank way past their best, and he avoided Joe Calzaghe, which would have been a slaughter.

Benn was a good fighter, but take away the mclellan win in which he obviously could have been stopped quicktime, and he doesnt have any really top level wins.
if you count dewitt, just look at the guys doug had been beaten by, the guy was a glorified journeyman. plus his WBC defences- lou gent? mauro galvano? that argentine that calzaghe fought? i respect the guy a lot but he did beat up a lot of scrubs.
he clearly beat eubank second fight tho, but overall i think he was overated just because he was an exciting banger.

He achieved quite a lot IMO. Overcame domestic KO losses to win belts and earn scalps like Barkley, DeWitt, McClellan (ppl are SO keen to say Benn was almost out, but oddly reluctant to praise the fact that he rallied through the worst beating of his career to win) & definitely Eubank in the rematch. Benn won that fight. He did a lot for British boxing on the domestic AND the world scenes. So he's definitely not overrated.

Beating McLellan after the initial beating he took, in my view is still the best ever performance from a British boxer, better than Honeyghan beating a clearly off form Curry, McLellan was on his game that night and Benn beat him, better than Hatton beating a marginally faded Tyszu. Benn took on the best at home when we had a very strong domestic scene and the best Europe and the world had to offer and fared well, after McLellan he was never the same fighter in same way Eubank wasn't after Watson - Collins beat pale imitations of both of them
