DO PEOPLE NOW ACCEPT THAT DANNY WILLIAMS IS SHIT?

Post by overhand_right »

im not judging danny by british standards, im judging by world standards here.

1999: loss to julius francis, journeymen with knockout losses to vitali klitschko, zeljko mavrovic beforehand, one sided loss to a fat over the hill looking axel schulz.

came back with points win over harry senior. tough nut but not much power or skill.

life or death struggle with below average mark potter. wins remarkably with one arm, but on the other hand was having a real hard time before the injury.

comes back in 2001 looking firey. whacks out a big aussie stiff, wins on a strange and anti-climatic 4th rd kayo over jules, but when up against world class opponents jules has a tendency to get whacked out. signs with don king.

2002. instead of chasing hasim rahman or john ruiz (or any world fodder), danny williams makes genius decision to stay in england, keep defending his british title in order to get the cheapy and tasteless lonsdale belt, and try easy fight v novice audley harrison. end result: unimpresssive 7th rd kayo over michael sprott (kayoed in 1 rd by corrie sanders, 6 by light punching harry senior, travelled half way round the world on a few days notice). gruelling 12 rd win over 35 yr old novice keith long, who even shakes danny up despite lack of power. horrible year after the promise of 2001.

2003: dominated and destroyed by overweight turk. looks glass jawed and mentally frail. turk subsequently fails to wipe out julius franics in a world class manner, loses to cruiseweight jc gomez, even loses to luan krasniqi?!?!

2004: danny loses 12 rd decision to journeyman michael sprott, who has been knocked out six times previously.

if you guys dont think danny williams is shit yet, idont know why. derek williams wouldve blitzed this guy on his day.

I strongly disagree with that assessment.

Can I ask something, what is your family heritage, i.e. are you a member of an ethnic minority?

I can't imagine a white British boxing fan having those views on the Lonsdale belt.

I will not necessarily comment about the Lonsdale belt, but I am white as they come and needed to make my opinion known.

Flawed Genius is quite right. The Lonsdale Belt is class.
As for Danny Williams, he has never been the same since his shoulder twice went out in the Potter fight, but he showed true fighting heart that night. Instead of slagging him off, bet against the guy and make money on how naff he is nowadays.

Welcome Hurricane good to see ya here. Danny Williams is shocking at the moment, he has clearlly lost his brain as if he had one he would know, to give your self the best chance of victory turn up in good condition. I was absolutely gobsmacked that he came to defend his titles at nearly 19stone and after that I lost all respect for him.

i really cant dignify this one with a response.

the belt is cheap and tacky looking. i could knock a better one up myself.

danny stagnated on british soil for that piece of crap rather than chase a big money fight v rahman or ruiz that don king presented to him. sound far fected? look at what don is doing for gerald nobles right now.

danny you clever man.

You could answer my question.

It is the finest looking belt in world boxing by a mile. You are honestly the first person I have ever heard suggest otherwise in all the years I have been involved one way or another in boxing.

http://www.specsavers.co.uk might be able to help. :)

Since when has the Lonsdale belt been cheap and tacky looking Overhand?... I suppose your idea of class is the ibo or wbu or wbf belts!.... the Lonsdale belt has a long and proud history in boxing and is widely regarded as the most beautiful belt around especially today in the era of truely cheap and tacky belts!... I think you either say these things to wind people up or else you just really don't know that much about boxing... after all Danny Williams is an easy target now,..... but how many fights have you won in the ring Overhand, and how many with a dislocated shoulder eh?......

If there's a more beautiful belt anywhere in the world than the Lonsdale I've yet to see it.

That's why when poor sods like Jimmy Vincent are robbed of the opportunity to even stand there and be photographed with it draped over their shoulder as rightful British champ it makes me want to temporarily say bollocks to this so called sport.

Once Danny Williams left the BBC, his career was effectively over and the Sprott fight shows that his career is over!

The guy should retire because he isn't world class and will be nothing more than a good domestic fighter!

He hasn't even beaten a Top 50 Heavyweight let alone a Top 10 one and I'm sure the BBC are very happy to of got this time waster of their books.

I hope all the Audley doubters will now get behind Britain's only real Heavyweight instead of supporting fakes like Sprott, Williams and Skelton

The BBC has the only 2 good British heavyweights left

The only Britsh heavyweight fight worth anything is : Hide vs Harrison and the BBC will exclusively show it once Audley wins the WBF heavyweight Belt.

AUDLEY IS THE MAN

STICK WITH HIM AND WATCH HIM EXCLUSIVELY ON THE B-B-C

some very disrespectful opinions here. Williams has underachieved. Against Hide he will get a chance to put that right in a crossroads battle.

Even if he defeats Hide which IMO he wont where does he go from there?

Williams career is as good as over,he has neither the confidence or ambition to succeed above domestic level now.

Shame.

I ve got no need to lighten up Overhand, as you say everyone has a right to their own opinion and I gave mine on your comments. If you don't like my opinion then that's your problem!... perhaps you should lighten up eh?...

Yes it's one of the best and oldest belts going, any Brit boxer will tell you the same.
DW may have disapointed, but things can change very quickly at heavyweight....I still reckon he'd wipe out Hide in a round or two.

Think it might be dangerous to write off a man with the heart to win with a dislocated shoulder. Give him some respect dudes! Even if its just ofr that. I agree he hasnt lived up to expectations and has been poor of late but I find it hard to bring myself to criticise a man capable of such bravery, Klitchko while undoubtedly a better boxer couldnt do it when fighting byrd and trust a disclocated shoulder is a hell of a lot more painful than a torn rotar muscle.
know who I would prefer in trenches with me.

not seing as hide ahas just been done for carrying a blade round norwich, I mean what is all that about. Blokes an ex wob champ and he needs knife, that to me points to one of two things: general serious mental instability or he has gotten involved in serious shit he shouldnt have.
think williams will have to go the route of fighting skleton if he beats or loses sprott as no-one really wants to see another contest betwene them just yet.
