Amir Khan - Lets Look After Him!!!

Post by Spud »

I never thought I would say this - Mr W arren and Team Khan need to be patient.

I honestly believe a world title fight is a tadge too soon for Amir Khan - yes he was impressive against the dane this evening and yes I think Amir Khan could become world class eventually.

But whats the bloody rush??

Once you get to being a world champion of the more reputable belts it is a dam sight harder keeping onto the belts - my attitude is Khan is moving along okay but world titles not yet.

You look at Romanov for the European Title - I even think that fight for Khan is a very tough one.

Mr W arren has a big problem - Khan's contract runs out soon - does Mr W arren deliver the world title to hang onto Khan's contract or does Mr W arren tell Team Khan its too soon.

No no and no I am not being negative - I am pleased with Khan's progression - he is doing well and learning fight by fight - but he is not world class yet!!!

Mr W arren in his after fight interview is being cautious!!! :TU: :TU:

thank f*ck for that - Khan does not need rushing.

He is a young lad and has many many years - Khan has progressed alright.

Slowly - okay in some peoples views its very slowly - but I feel Amir is progressing okay.

Lets be patient.

Frank's still not saying alot lol.

I would agree Spud, I think Romanov would cause him problems. As you say once you get the titles you have to fight top class fighters all the time to keep them.

I was a Khan hater at first and the St Clair fight started the change, tonights fight has made me realise that when he keeps his mouth shut and boxer he is good, is he world class ? possibly I still think he needs to slow down a little and pace himself. World title at some point but not for his next fight but he will need it soon as he's going to grow out of the weight soon enough.

amir's the one who's impatient.

i think he also needs more schooling before going in with someone like nate campbell.

nate can fight at a hard pace all night long and won't be bothered by khan's pitty pat punches.

perhaps katsidis as a june opponent. :box:

Tell you now - this is Mr W arren's biggest challenge in my view - If Team Khan are not prepared to listen concerning Amir not being ready yet - then there is the slightest hint Khan might go elsewhere.

I always find the politics very intriguing - this one is going to be very interesting.

My my what does Mr W arren do??

Won't touch Romanov i don't think. Why would he? He is rated by the WBO now and will wait for them to make Khan V whoever for the vacant title once Campbell/Casamayor realise they will be fighting elsewhere or each other.

The next fight i imagine will be a defence of the bauble he won tonight against a fighter in the Kristjansen/St. Clair class. Solid, borderline world level but lacking a punch and the ability to win the big ones.

Steve,

I don't understand the need for the rush - Romanov is a very tough fight.

I will give you an opponent - why not Thaxton? problem is Thaxton's cut is a horrible one.

Yep, can't see them putting him in with Romanov. Far too risky a proposition with a potential world title fight on the horizon.

Thought he did ok tonight. Still got a nagging doubt over his chin but we should find out sooner rather than later!!

The Khan situation is the same as the Hatton situation.

As soon as he fights someone of REAL quality he'll be taken out. He is too easy to hit. Unfortunately, he'll be matched to the status of triple world champion before he does actually meet someone of top quality.

I don't think Warren wants to rush him, just the stuff him and Khan have said In the past and the hype around Amir Is pressuring Frank Into rushing Amir. Then theres Khan and his yes men.

When Khan was still amateur and Frank was saying stuff like he could be a world champ by 2008 rather than an Olympic champ, stuff like that.

I think the future for Khan was summed up by the announcer in 4 statements when talking about Kristjansen;

"he's not a big puncher"
"he's prone to cuts"
"he 30 years old"

and the clincher... "he hasn't had a fight in 17 months!"

my wife and I were just howlin, it got worse everytime the annoucer commented on Kristjansen.

I like Khan, I think he's a great boxer, but I'm just sick of Boxing Bullshit.

That's easy, fight a bum with 25 fights, 2 losses and 4 wins by the way of KO. Then you will have the perfect Amir Khan opponent!

If he has more than 6 KO wins. Make sure he's a super-featherweight or featherweight just to make sure :TU: .

I think he gets paid plenty of money and has a lot of fame & plaudits for fighting men who still have day jobs.

A joiner, a mechanic, a school teacher and a life guard spring immediately to mind.

He shouldn't headline if he ain't fighting someone meaningful.

I think Thaxton took the risk this weekend not Amir.

Kristjansen looked crap if were being honest.

Khan needs some tough mexicans to mould him into shape before going into a Casamayor fight.

Its one thing having raw ability, but that needs to be fashioned into a suitable sword before doing battle stateside.

Pavlik was forged in red-hot learning fights - ones he had no guarantee of winning... but he came through those stern tests and that experience ensured that when his big opportunity arose, he was ready.

Khan has learned very little since turning pro in my opinion and to prolong the run even more will not protect him, it will eventually expose him.

Becoming the very best in the game sometimes involves losing along the way and that should not be the sole reason for feasting on over-ranked chumps.

Thaxton then Romanov need to be next, in that order.

Nah just Romanov, Thaxton would dance around not reaching him properly and swinging like a pub drunk getting countered.

Pavlik's just tough and strong though, not much skill or speed about him, without them he wouldn't be champ.

Very true, no way would they take a risk fight like Romanov with a "world" title fight on the horizon. Romanov's already said they had their chance & I'm moving on.

Wasn't impressed with Khan tonight. Kristjansen only had the most basic of skills although he was decent stepping away from the ropes until Khan started rushing him. As Terry Dooley wrote recently, Khan's fights are becoming very samey. Hit loads of gloves, Calzaghe-style shoeshine combos, take right crosses that you don't need to take, rely on speed.

I think Khan's going to be a bit of an Anthony Mundine (not referring to Mundine's talent, which is superior to Khan's, but Mundine's career choices which are pretty awful to watch).

Why do you show such little respect for fighters you do not rate?

He does have them though and he is a champion. So what is your point?

Maybe 'ex-world WBO Champ' Alex Arthur will be next for Khan. I think they'll want a super-feather again. Jesus Chavez is an option, albeit an easier 1 because hes so past his prime

Spud,

I can see what you are saying. But, wouldn't be just nice if one fighter from the shores was rushed a bit.

The yanks seem to be able to do a four year turn around from Olympic contender/medalist to world pro champion easily enough.

We possibly have the most talented out of all the 2004 Olympians, and the one who it was easiest to adapt to the pro ranks (being so young).

It should have been done comfortably if he was matched properly.

Yes, we have had two recent very long reigning champions (Lewis and Calzaghe) - but thankfully because its because they maintained their skills into their late thirties - not because they were champions at an exceedingly young age.

Just feed up of our fighters not deemed ready untill their mid/late 20's. Even David Haye... already talking about getting out - practically before his reign has started.

that's what I've been thinking. The Mexicans fringe contenders are usually hard, never stop pushing & know how to ride out the rough patches. Would be interesting to see how Khan holds up when he knows a) the opponent isn't getting stopped and b) his opponent is persistent enough to keep landing on him.

No excuse really as there are plenty of good Mexicans from light middle down.

Ho about Santa Cruz? Tall, limited, tough, and everyone thinks he beat Casamayor? If all went well, it would be a great learning experience and great to get ppl interested.

Khan looks like a guy not fuly suited to the pros. Like Andre Ward, who also doesn't seem to take a good shot as well.

Doesn't make It disrespect just because I predicted how a Khan/Thaxton matchp may turn out. You misunderstood totally.

What you said there can apply to all posters here then since theres a fighter we all don't rate at sometime.

My point Is Pavlik's not learned anything and that he's still easy to tag and won't be champ for long. He's one dimensional but his strength, size and toughness makes up for It.

IMO Povetkin has adapted to the pros easier. Beaten better comp and just has a more professional way of operating.

I believe Arthur will be defending his title at Super featherweight a couple of times before he moves up.

well, Pavlik has learned how to apply his size and strength, through hard learning fights with Zuniga, McKart, Zertuche and Miranda, which helped get him through the Taylor bouts, albeit barely.
