KHAN-ROMANOV - DO WE WANT IT?

Post by Autobarn »

Warren wants to make one more fight before Khan guns for WBO, IBF and WBA champ Campbell.

How about a fight that will be a real fight, and a learning fight - European champion Romanov?

Romanov wants to move on to world level, and he has an EBU mandatory pressing. Juan Carlos Diaz Melero must soon be accomodated (the talented Spaniard that Romanov got up off the floor to stop).

Yuri will do it for the money, so why not grab this fight while he's still EBU champ?

There could be one chance to make Khan-Romanov, so do we demand this fight?

i Actually Saw Khan taking on Romanov and Thaxton and Co. After he became a World Champion. having them as Title Defence Fights whilst fighting to be the Best in Britain.

But if Amir Khan needs one more fight before a Definite Title Shot, Romanov or even Thaxton both seem like good Fights.

Someone like Katsidis Seems good too

I'd love to see Romanov and Khan square off it'd be a cracking fight and a great learner for Khan, it's the fight I hope they pursue next, but Romanovs punch perfect display against Thaxton might deter SN and Khan as it's a very losable fight

the thing is, Romanov was not punch perfect vs Steffano Zoff. That was 1 fight before Thaxton. He looked short, awkward and had fits with things like long reach/movement and seemed as though if you can push him back he's not so effective.

I get the impression Khan will be fighting again in June, so that will probably be too early for Thaxton's cut to heal. I'm not sure Romanov would be a fight I wanna see. Then again I can't see a better opponent I'd want him to face before going for a World Championship.

I'm still unsure as to whether Warren is 'gunning for campbell' even if push comes to shove. I hope there are no other options for him and Khan but I fear he'll make them out of something.

No chance he puts Khan in with Romanov now but I want to see it as Romanov would knock him out and I would win a lot of money.

I think Romanov would jump at the chance as he is sure to have noticed Khan's frailties, as well as the status he would get for winning. It delays his world title aspirations but he'd be a fool to turn it down...

It would be nice to see Khan vs a fighter that doesn't need hyping beyond his station.

If Khan is going to be world level let's see him beat the top fighter in Europe. Let's see him fight someone that we give a chance to beat him. He'd get mad respect if he beat Romanov, or is it better just to con the British public?

I'm not certain who would win.

I could see Khan's speed out working him, Yuri Is a bit one paced and maybe Thaxton being crap and unable to reach In with his shots properly could of made him better than he Is.

Yuri could always tag him with that straight right though.

I'd love to find out. Can Khan deal with that accurate, hard punching? Can Romanov handle the speed and movement? It would be brilliant. Both are ranked in the Ring magazine's top 10 and what's better than seeing two top contenders squaring off to determine the world title challenger.

I also think Yuri needs it. He will go for that WBA regular title and fall into obscurity.

Needs to be made quickly. Because Yuri will either vacate the European title or face mandatory Juan Carlos Diaz Melero again.

It's the fight I want to see Khan in, no doubt. Romanov has definately got a good chance of winning, whilst being just below elite world level at the moment... the sort of level Khan should be looking at now if he's really got aspirations of winning a world title.

On Boxingtalk it says Casamayor is fighting Juan Diaz next, not sure where that leaves the WBO position, will they mandate Khan-Peterson?? Not sure either teams management would make that just yet.

Other than Romanov, i'd like to see the Khan-Katsidis... winnable fight for Amir in my opinion, but he'd have to be a bit smarter, cover up well at times and be a bit less eager in going for the finish, or it'd be goodnight :box:

There's nothing for romanov to handle. Khan can be caught easily and shouldn't worry Romanov in terms of power. Romanov WILL stalk and he will land that right hand

re Casa-Diaz - that's what I've been hearing as well. Just Peterson ahead of Khan now. Anthony's at least a year off challenging a title. I don't think the WBO would really mandate a fight that neither side wants, re Khan-Peterson. But if they are #1 and #2, I say why not?

Its hard fight to pick, on 1 hand Romanov isn't that hard to land on, is slow of hand and foot, which is perfect for Khan teeing off with his fast hands and easily beating Romanov to the punch. On the other hand Khan drops his left and is wide open to right hands and maybe a little chinny.

I favour Khan to win this 1 because I believe in picking the boxer over the puncher. It is far easier for a boxer to make adjustments to avoid being ko'd than it is for a puncher to make adjustments to outbox the boxer. Romanovs leaky defense and lower workrate may see him having the punch beat out of him. And after Saturday I wouldn't mind seeing Khan being ko'd as hes acting the prick (and I was a fan up until then).

Is it me, or does Khan STILL leap in to his punches at times like Pacman?

I've just spoke to a few people at work who were gobsmacked when I informed them that Kristianjsen (sp) wasn't even in the top 30 in the World, they even said 'the commentary and punditry was misleading then'

Think Edner Cherry is a better opponent for a World title fight.

Of course I'd like to see Khan vs Romanov at some stage... preferably a world title fight.

Sorry I meant as a warm up before a world title fight.... his next opponent.

If Romanov wins a title first - then Khan vs Romanov would be great, likewise if Khan gets there first.

Barry and Duke and John of Rawling need to do what ESPN2 do in America. Point out the bigger picture, point out whom Ring mag have in the rankings or - like Sky - come up with a very sensible independent ranking. It's not really good enough letting ppl go to bed thinking that Khan has just beaten the 2nd best in the world.

Put Khan over on Setanta, because Setanta surely demand their share of big fights as part of their contract (why else are Arthur & Lockett taking on outstanding / highly regarded world champs?).

This is a GREAT point. I took for granted how professional it is of ESPN to do this- why the hell can't ITV do the same? Just a simple runthough of the top names in the division for the layman.

Obviously the problem at the moment is that Kristjansen wouldn't feature in there, and the armchair fan would be demanding why Khan isn't facing the names on the screen. But if he was in REAL learning fights with points of reference there would be no problem linking the other guy TO the big names and highlighting the fact that the opponent is a useful stepping stone to bigger things..

If he's going to become a world champion in his next but one fight, he needs proper preperation. St Clair had the world class wilyness, but no power at 135 or the pressure. Romanov would provide it. Katsidis is the other obvious option.

It's Khan who's been pushing for the world title, and Warren has been obliging with the WBO route. If he's going to be contesting a world title by the end of the year, then he has to face guys like Romanov to give him the test he needs so as not leave him like a rabbit between the headlights when he comes up against a top guy. Because even more so than Calzaghe or even Hatton, I think the pressure will be on Khan to remain unbeaten, clean up divisions, and then some.

Because its a allegedly show-- he doesnt want the armchair viewer to know whats going on.

How BAD embarrassing saturday nights show look if they'd show the independent top 30 rankings dont even feauture Kristjansen?

BBC fell into the same trap of never really explaining the big picture clearly.

I think this is why a move to Setanta could be good for Khan because Setanta have helped to make some serious fights ala Calzaghe-Kessler, Haye-Maccarinelli. Unless the new long contract means that Warren can stop risking his best fighters.

Also, Bunce has to tell you everything he knows just so you know how smart he is. So he'd probably say where Khan and his opponent are at.
