Kessler is Mundine's mandatory!
The WBA announced Tuesday that it has designated former WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler as the "official challenger" for its super middleweight title, an honor now held by Anthony "The Man" Mundine. Kessler won the WBA crown by stopping Manny Siaca Jr., and, in his first title defense, went Down Under to unanimously outpoint Mundine in Sydney. "Mundine is a very tough customer," Kessler said. "He comes to fight and I respect that. I look forward to another rugged match against him now. I think it's fair to say he's a fellow who keeps improving which is understandable since he switched to boxing after being a big star in Australian Rules football. He's not the type to run away from a challenge." Kessler, who turned 29 on March 1, has not fought since his November 4 loss against Joe Calzaghe.

Mundine: "a big star in Australian Rules football"
Wrong footie code and it is debateable if he could have been termed a "big star" in Rugby League, except in his own mind. He was more than a useful player first grader, who traded on his boasting (similar to his boxing career), but ended up smelling like merde after he bailed out on his club: St.George and left them in the lurch.
Kessler will have to use his passport to get to the fight, which he would win as Daman will be most reluctant to get his passport stamped.

I think both will fight better this time. Kessler hopefully won't have an injury. (though he is injury prone). Mundine has the talent to beat Kessler, but will he go out there & be assertive?
He's had decent practise vs the likes of Green and Soliman. Now is the test. I think Mundine can win the big fight this time, with an improved attitude and home advantage. I didn't think he deserved such lopsided scores against him last time.
Last time Mundine did demonstrate how speed could make Kessler look bad and this is something Calzaghe proved. Calzaghe being a bossy fighter in the ring. Mundine has to stop fighting like a pickpocket who steals rounds (and I think he already has stopped fighting like that).

I think Miranda's a way easier fight, personally. It'd be physically tough, like Andrade perhaps, but tactically easy. Whereas Mundine is very hard to hit clean, at the very least. Kessler only ever looked awkward twice, vs Mundine and Calzaghe, but only Calzaghe pressed the advantage vs an opponent struggling with his range/timing.amwsnw wrote:Hence pulling out of the Miranda fight !! An easier fight and a belt on the line. I think Kessler can do it easier than before, possibly by stoppage.
definitely, Hounddog. If Mundine won't put it together vs Kessler, he never will. Depends how much he wants it, deep down. Hope he does it, as the ring smarts and physical talent are all there to take it.Well if it's true, here is a chance for da man to earn the respect of at least his country.
But all coments i have heard are correct, fight Kessler properly(assertive) or hang em up. Shut that mouth up and train. Very frustrating last time, too much yap not enough tap from Mundine.
I'd like to see Mundine really in the mix on the world scene.
I must have been watching a different fight when you say Kessler looked awkward against Mundine. He dominated Mundine in Mundines backyard and reports suggest he had a minor back injury...not bad. Dont get me wrong as an Aussie I want to see Mundine step up and take on the world, leeting his ability do the talking, but I can't see him beating Kessler.Autobarn wrote:I think Miranda's a way easier fight, personally. I thought it was a bad night for Kessler. He won because he wanted it more. He didn't seem to haev the right approach to land clean, impressive shots but he just dug in and pulled out an ungainly win.
I'm a big fan of Kessler but I just think that if Mundine actually tries to win, rather than trying to exist with Kessler, that he'll win.

What an opportunity for Mundine to shut up the critics (me included). If the fight is made, I will happily support Mundine. I am assuming that it will be fought here and hope it is in Melbourne. Mundine finally has the oppurtunity to show us all that he is more than the mouthpiece we think he is.
Mundines skills have lifted since the first fight, but to do himself justice he needs to pursue the best sparring available. Paul Briggs would be a good start, not too dissimilar to Kessler, and has as much pop. Having said that Kessler will have learnt alot from fighting Joe as well.
It all comes down to how he handles himself during all aspects of this showdown.

We all would Autobarn, it is quite frustrating.
I also agree Miranda is the easier fight, Kessler would press,Miranda would press, Miranda would walk right into it, an early KO would result. Kessler is technically the better fighter wih power.
But Mundine walks right into a KO punch by everyone in and around boxing everytime he fights. Why? He doesn't live up to his true potential.
Quote; (He trys to exist) with the best and does this well, but he doesn't throw it all out there. Hence most people including myself think, God given talent gone to waste.

mundine doesnt like fighting fighters whom impose their will on him. like siaca and kessler. they are big, strong super middles. they both came straight at mundine, throwing straight punches and hooks.
mundines style doesnt like it. they pressure mundine to fight. to hit and get hit. mundine is afraid of getting hit. kessler and siaca are not. kessler will do as he did last time, walk through mundine and make him fight.
mundine will run, jab, flurry. i see the fight going the same way as the first.
however, mundine does very well against blokes he fights the second time....

both of those fighters had a good case for claiming they won their first fights against mundine. the second time round it was murder...calmac66 wrote:The only folks he has fought more then once is Soliman and Sullivan as far as I know. Not exactly the cream of the crop, no offence to Soliman.pawpaw wrote:

They publicised Kessler's fitness levels after the first fight and his fitness level was the lowest it has ever for Kessler. If Mundine felt like Kessler was pressuring in fight 1 it will be nothign compared to how relentless he will press if they fight again.pawpaw wrote:mundine doesnt like fighting fighters whom impose their will on him. like siaca and kessler. they are big, strong super middles. they both came straight at mundine, throwing straight punches and hooks.

I like Mundine but I think he should stay away from Kessler and Calzaghe. Also he doesnt need them. I have heard rumours of Miranda wanting to fight Mundine - that would be great as I would like to see that and Mundine could finally get some stateside recognition if he were to beat Miranda on live US TV. I want Mundine to get in the ring with someone who is known in the US and preferably fight in the US (just not Kessler or Joe). Fight Hanshaw, Miranda, Winky etc. It would do wonders to Mundines carreer because I think he would beat any of them. As long as he is not seriously outgunned in terms of physique, Mundine will do well I think.
I just can't see Mundine fighting outside Australia. He makes millions here fighting bums. I think if he fought Miranda in the states it would be on the undercard of a big name fight and he wouldn't make nearly the $$$ with plenty of risk. I just don't think Mundine wants to risks his regular paydays fighting bums here for the Aussie PPV dollars.theHitman wrote:They publicised Kessler's fitness levels after the first fight and his fitness level was the lowest it has ever for Kessler. Will everyone have a word with themsleves, Kessler will wipe the floor with this waster.
Mundine will lose his title, and Kessler will take it with a UD or will bang the waster out of there within 10 rounds, just depends which Kessler will turn up. It does matter, Kessler put Calzaghe under huge amounts of pressure and made a name for himself internationally, kessler has moved up a level, Mundine has'nt.
Under-performing Kessler - UD
normal Kessler - KO by 10
Kessler with a point to prove - KO within 3 rounds.
Mundunes performance does'nt matter, he will lose his title, and thank god as the WBA must be so ashamed at having this bum Mundine holding one of their titles!!!
