for the first and only time chuvalo hits the canvas. it happens in round 7 of the fight and tyson is so surprised at his achievement that he stands shell-shocked as george gets up at 8 moves in and throws 5 or 6 quick shots unanswered. the ref for a half second thinks about stopping the fight but the bell goes to save iron mike.
the rest of the fight is fought at close quarters and surviving a bad 11th round chuvalo gets to the end. tyson wins a decision.

*When The Rock retired he named Tommy Jackson, Archie Moore and Floyd Patterson as his top three best challengers to fight for his vacant title; of course Patterson won a close decision over Jackson, who was a sparring partner for Marciano, and would go on to knock out Moore to become champion.

So let's have it gents, would The Brockton Blockbuster have gone the 50-0?

i give floyd 6 rounds of encroaching doom. his fast hands win him the first 4 - the next is fairly even but paterson takes a corker of a right hand in that one and, as usual, its his thinking about the possibilities of the situation rather than dealing with them that leads to the conclusion of this bout. in the 6th he takes a real beating and sensibly stays down - fast asleep - after the 3rd heavy knock down. not too disimilar to johanssen 1. only a more brutal finish.

I'll say Rosi by decision.

The Michael Spinks of 1985 who beat Larry Holmes vs. the Mike Tyson of 1999 who beat Botha... 12 rounds.

Thought this was an interesting one. Spinks after all was kind of getting old and was inactive when Mike destroyed him in 1, while Tyson was at his peak. But what if the situation was reversed? Tyson at 32 (Spinks was 32 in 88), coming off a suspencion after the Holyfield rematch, versus Spinks at his best? Would Spinks still be afraid? Could Mike still catch him? Or would Spinks box his way to victory?

Spinks by decision for mine. Tyson was so God damn lazy in the ring after the rematch with Holyfield. It'd be hairy, but I think Spinks really could pull it off.

I believe that Bugner would edge out Golota unanimously on points. I see Golota suffering a cut, but not serious enough to warrant a stoppage.

Interesting fight. Mosley puts on the performance of his career to snatch the early lead. Whitaker, sluggish off the mark, starts to turn the tide in the middle rounds, effectively combating Mosley's previously successful aggression & combinations. The late rounds are all Whitaker, who is superbly cool under pressure.

pryor in usual non stop punch throwing mode has initial success but by round 3 mayweather has the tempo of the fight and his defensive angles and little twists and turns followed by jabs just hurtful enough reverses his fortunes. UD mayweather.

Maybe I am biased, but Randy Turpin was one of my favorite middleweights and he could have been more, and it was so sad that the man ended up killing himself.....I give this fight to Turpin, via decision.

slow and ponderous the former champ gradually rediscovers a glint of his old greatness and overpowers the ill-starred hunter in round 8. ref stops fight.
