Steve Roberts comeback?
Steve Roberts comeback?
Just read this on the Sky Sports TV guide
Sat Apr 17 IBO Super-Middleweight title
Brian Magee v TBA
IBO Light-Middleweight title
Sergio Martinez v Steve Roberts
I thought Roberts annonuced his retirment after his loss to Darren Rhodes the other month? Has he had a change of heart or is this a missprint?

I also see that SKY have Mosley v Winky in their listings, when the BBC have already announced that they will be showing it.
This is great, at one time you'd never have got a fight like this on SKY and of course not the Beeb, now they're both showing it!

Is Martinez the new Winky Wright? Feasting on the domestic Light Middleweight division.KOJOE90 wrote:Just read this on the Sky Sports TV guide

It goes to show that Williams, Roberts, Stone, Tak et al should have faced each other when the time is right for meaningful domestic showdowns.
Now their respective careers are tarnished by significant loses and the match ups have lost a great deal of their previous luster.

Bad mistake I fear, Steve's heart doesn't seem in the game anymore - he's already retired twice. One thing though, Martinez is not a massive puncher -so I don't think he will get badly hurt.
Imagine if Roberts won - he'd be back on top of the tree, and also in many world rankings. I don't think he wants it enough, but finally some of the Light Middles have realised the truth (that it is shit or bust).

It said that SKY were showing the fight on Ringside last night too.Kilburn wrote:I also see that SKY have Mosley v Winky in their listings, when the BBC have already announced that they will be showing it.

Boxing is a funny sport sometimes, i would not be surprised if Roberts caused an upset and beat Martinez, that would turn things back on there head a little. I agree with Terrible Terry, i have been saying for a while now that the Boxing politics pissed me off and denied us several meaningful matchups at Light Middleweight. At one point we had Roberts, Williams, Alexander, Farnell, Takaloo, Lockett, Samuels, Jones etc Now only Williams and probably dark horse Jamie Moore have themselves reasonably in tact but even Williams is questionable on that front, he does have his Commonwealth bauble to fall back on though. Let's get Takaloo in with Alexander, that would be a good fight but i suppose Alexander's chin is so worn he might get hurt badly.
