On April 17, it will be 25 years to the day Jim Watt won the WBC lightweight title in Glasgow against Alfredo Pitalua. Jim proved to be a fine champion, defending four times against challengers that would have many of today's champions running for cover: Charlie Nash, Sean O'Grady and Howard Davis among them.
Sky ought to push the boat out for this pending anniversary. I'd like to see them interview all his world title opponents in fact. It's a chance for some real nostalgia.

Yes Jim Watt fights are worth checking out, he was a very tough fighter with quality Boxing skill, not far behind Ken Buchaunan IMO.hitman_hatton1 wrote:i must check out some jim watt

I've not watched the Arguello fight for a few years but I seem to recall Jim put up a very brave fight, but was outfought and outboxed by the better fighter. But the fight was not one sided Watt was always in the fight although clearly lost.
I seemed to recall that Watt took some terrific body shot and spent the night in a hot bath trying to sooth the pain, whilst being tended to by his wife he was heard to say 'Did I put up a good fight?' Many better known fighters than Jim Watt would not have lasted the distance with Arguello that night. Watt was one tough Scottsman who knew his trade.
A certain Barry McGuigan fought on the undercard that night having I think his second proffesional fight, after his win he had a quick shower and rushed to his seat to watch the fight.
