HOW TOUGH IS GARRY DELANEY?
will he be able to withstand Enzo's power for long enough to land some potentially contest ending shots of his own?
garry's fight with bruce scott- his earliest stoppage loss. Has anyone seen this fight? did garry take it on short notice? was he at full strength?
Info, please. I'm going to put money on garry.

The Scott ending was on a swollen eye. Garry was not off his feet. Garry has been very inactive over the last two years, which won't help him tonight. As I think Kilburn mentioned earlier, a lot depends on Garry's desire tonight. If he wants it, he has a chance. A real chance. His record shows he doesn't lose early. Enzo, after four rounds, will find himself in strange territory.Riddick Blowe wrote:will he be able to withstand Enzo's power for long enough to land some potentially contest ending shots of his own?

thanks bennie. dunno the ins and outs of the betting- my local William Hill in Headingley is shit and generally doesn't even give the odds on a knockout, but its the closest one and I can't be arsed walking further.
So does anyone think Garry will be up for this? We all know he's 'old school' but is it really worth a lot to him at this stage in his career? might he just try to survive?

Good performance from Enzo. Fair play to him, Garry made it tough at times in contest almost twice as long as any Enzo had experienced before. Those lefts to body looked they were breaking Delaney in half.
But I feel Garry showed tremendous courage tonight. He had ample opportunity to bail out but visibly gritted his teeth and tried desperately to turn the tables on Enzo, hoping he would be able to break Maccarinelli's heart by keeping wading through the hail of punches coming his way. Good fight!

Delaney showed grit, but didn't look in fantastic shape and Enzo showed smarts to target his body. Enzo can punch for sure. Unlike Calzaghe, he doesn't seem to possess great boxing ability, however. But he'll learn from his first long fight and, given the right matches, can defend his spurious WBU title for years.
Delaney did himself proud on saturday night.
He is a very close friend of mine and he has gone through hell the last month trying to get the weight off. He wont say so but thats probably why he was so weak to the body.
He showed great heart and balls and really wanted to turn the fight around.
Spoke to him this morning and he has a perforated ear drum aswell as a suspect rib.
He has a chin of steel and someone mentioned Julius stopped him, but anyone who saw that fight would know it was exhaustion that caused that stoppage not his chin. He was giving away about 2 stone to Julius and he was knackered by the 7th.

Garry's inactivity harmed him greatly, this is why i suspected he wouldnt last 12 rounds.Loynesy wrote:Had a few drinks with Garry after the fight (most of the fighters and press were staying in the same hotel as me). A genuinely decent man who knew that he had just had his last real chance in the game.
Yes, inactivity is the biggest opponent to fighters (Sugar Ray Leonard apart). I banked on Delaney being in good physical shape - as opposed to ring shape - after training for the abortive Haye fight late last year, then for a scheduled 12-rounder at Upton Park in January (which he turned down to concentrate on the Enzo challenge), but obviously not.knockout artist wrote:Garry's inactivity harmed him greatly, this is why i suspected he wouldnt last 12 rounds.Loynesy wrote:Had a few drinks with Garry after the fight (most of the fighters and press were staying in the same hotel as me). I must say Bennie, with all due respect, my eyebrows raised when i saw an astute judge like yourself picking Delaney to go 12.bennie wrote:Yes, inactivity is the biggest opponent to fighters (Sugar Ray Leonard apart).
