Any info about Martin Rogan. Where did he come from, or rather what has he been doing all these years? He's well into his 30s, and has only had about 10 fights
How far can he go? He looks like a heavyweight Eamonn Magee to me, a bit cruder though. Can he go down the Matt Skelton route and make some waves? Hes very rugged and can punch, thats for sure

Thanks guys. Did he used to be into some other kind of combat sport before, like Skelton? Its unusual Rogan is starting out in his mid 30s, and looks so good. I reckon he could win a British title

I don't think so, because I'd expect them to mention it in the programme. Under career achievements it says: "Winning the Ulster and Irish titles"

I went for a Gold Medallion as a Life Guard, and staying at 14st 7oz (91kg)

Describe you ideal weekend
My ideal weekend would be heading off on Friday touring all round Ireland, England and France, including everything on the way. Getting back late on Sunday or if I was wealthy taking as long as I wanted. BUT I would have to bring my gum shield and boxing gear.

It would be interesting to see him fight Skelton or Danny Williams but he might not want to fight for the British title. Although Belfast born he clearly considers himself an Irishman.

I take your point, and whilst he is obviously a nationalist, he didn't strike me as a politically zealous type - he was too carefree and down to earth in his interviews to get caught up in all that sort of carry on, I would have thought.

To put it bluntly, if Eamon Magee was willing to fight for the Commonwealth title I doubt there is any title Rogie won't take a shot at!

He does a bit of acting as well, he's in an irish film 'Man about dog', plays the part of a hard man chasing some young guys for money/dog.
Not a bad film.

Can see Martin getting some work playing these type of roles, he's got the face for it, i can't see him getting the romantic lead in anything though

Good point TT, I hope you're right.

he stated in a belfast telegraph interview that he would love to fight for the British Title as it would be a big night for Belfast to have that fight there

I answered this one before - Rogie would fight for a British title but has stated that he would love to bring the bout to Belfast.

In the Irish boxing community EVERYONE are friends, there are no real issues with religion. Hard to believe but true.

Jim 'Spider' Kelly (father and son) Hughie Russell, Daemaen Kelly and Barry McGuigan fought and won British titles and were all Catholic so I don't see why Rogie wouldn't fight for the title based on a historical perspective!

Too right - if Billy can stay in the gym and away from the pie shop he certainly showed on Friday night that he has more to offer.

A rematch with Ferguson would be a great starting point.

It shows the power of promotion with Martin Rogan, to be honest no-one (outside of anoraks) had really heard of him before last Friday, then he comes along and wins the Prizefighter.
For the first time in years i had guys talking about lower ranked heavies on the Monday morning, shows what a good bit of promotion can do.

As for Rogan its good to see the guy earn a bit of cash out of the sport, you could see it meant the world to him to win last Friday, and maybe he can go on to get some decent paydays from this.

Rogan looked pretty impressive over those short bouts, but I don't think he'd run Skelton, Sprott, Williams etc that close. This was a rung or several below domestic title level.

Maybe true, but Rogan's only a novice with 9 or 10 fights. With the right training and experience maybe he could do something, although time obviously isnt on his side. He looks as tough as they come, with a good dig.

I was at that card Billy when you boxed Rogan, atmosphere is always great at the Kings Hall. Rogan is a tough nut to crack and as you said he gives 100% and is a down to earth guy.
