I too like Bunce .. his enthusiasm is good for the sport
Though .. 1st impressions last .. and sadly alot here still remember his handling of the fr-Audley/BBC `incident`
He sold out big time :(
I like to think he has learnt from that lesson - he certainly is top notch now in comparison
Especially when compared to McGuigan and Rawlings
That aside .. I think Sky has the best fight coverage team .. Nelson/Piper/Watt are all different in many ways - but each bring something great and unique to the table .. as does Buncey
i like jim watt,,more time he tells it straight as regards his critiscms of most bouts...really like the way he shoots down his scottish rivals who lay claim to greatness...jonny is really articulate but occasionaly cuts his ass on the fence... claude ala boxing news could give a few a run for the money,imo
I am a Buncey fan, but one who does believe he sometimes blows off course a bit. I have a LOT of time for the man and first met him over a decade ago when he was writing for the Telegraph (with a mop-top type haircut! Haha!).
A sort of thing which can irritate people (I think) is when he gets over-excited and makes a little fumble, for example, when talking about Bernard Hopkins going into a rant on the promotional tour:
"Hopkins was an angry man ready to take it out on anyone, and the the only thing between him and me was about 30 people....so the only thing between him and about 30 people - was ME!!!"
Almost like a comedian getting the pupnch-line wrong and the moment passes, if you know what I mean. He gets very involved in it all, and some people who don't like him will accuse him of thinking he's more important than the boxers etc, but come on, for all his fault - he's better than most, has an amazing knowledge of the game and is very - VERY passionate about it.
Would you prefer something like Channel 5 had for Moorer-Holyfield 2? John Conteh was atrocious, and I remember thinking Buncey was better than all 4 in the studio that night - they were boring beyond belief!!!!!!
I hated when he said that anybody who scored the Rees - Kotelnik fight other than a shutout for Kotelnik was a disgrace. I wouldn't have minded usually but I had Rees down by only three at the time of the stoppage.
Even the blokes who know the game inside out have to tread a fine line - they have to sell the event in some way (they are working for the TV company after all) whilst retaining their dignity and credibility.
Obviously, some get the balance wrong, some get it right.
Although, as usual, I agree with Ant on most matters, I like Johnny Nelson and think he is a very good addition.
Bunce is fine to one extent, there is a place for the over excited, enthusiastic fella as it does put bums on seats.
However he should not be used as an expert, that should go to the likes of Mee or Abrams.
Steve is an experienced fella who must have gained a lot of knowledge within the game, but he fails to articulate this knowledge on live TV. He is much better doing pre recorded stuff, or being used for lighthearted entertainment if he is going to be on live.

I would like to see Bunce show this knowledge that he has a bit more... instead of the BS - sometimes he says some factually incorrect things.. just to make it sound exciting... like saying John Duddy stunk the place out as the reason the Pavlik fight isn't happening.
And surely Bob Mee is the most knowledgable Journo out there.
