Pinto certainly appears to be a 'live one' however, on close examination of his record he hasnt fought anybody anywhere near world class. He isnt ranked highly with the alphabet boys and even the IBO's computer only has him at '34' (and thats based on results!). He has only ko'd novices and we all know what Hatton will do to a novice. allegedly is a shrewd bloke and this is a good fight for Hatton. He will win inside the distance.

P.S this has shades of Hamed V Alicia, the outcome could be very similar. :o

Why was Witter so obsessed with fighting Hatton anyway, I'll tell you why, he doesn't have much of a fanbase, and had no profile, Hatton was a route he saw to get into contention.

Ricky is still a young fighter,

As for Phillips being too far gone, how come he gave Shamba Mitchell such a hard time, tracers work both ways, if Phillips isn't anything special, then neither is Mitchell, who has struggled with Phillips and N'dou, and did no better against Tackie than Hatton did in my book.

Cotto has proven nothing thus far, other than the fact that he is a prospect.

And so what if Hatton hasn't faced Tszyu? Hatton wasn't ready for Tszyu before, and maybe he never will be, but he's a world class fighter and is top 5 in the division.

It's all well and good to talk about Judah beating him, but Judah hasn't done anything since the Tszyu defeat to suggest that he is better than Hatton, Corley is nothing special and never was, just another contender who held a title for while.

I'm not claiming Hatton is some sort of all time great, he may never be the dominant force in the division, but so what, he's a cracking fighter to watch, and provides exccitement for fans, and he may go further than you and I think.

It seems there are a lot of people who have it in for Hatton, and I cannot really see why, what is he doing that pissed people off?

It's amazng how everyone gives people like Jeff Lacy or Jermaine Taylor props, when neither of them has faced anythign resembling a test yet...and yet Hatton who has been tested by Tackie and Phillips, even though they were past their best, and is prepared to take on an unbeaten prospect on the way up, and who will I think face Mitchell sooner rather than later.

Tszyu is on the way out, he has 1 or 2 fights left, and that is if he ever recovers from his injuries, aside from him only Cotto, Judah and Hatton in my opinion have the potential to replace him, so what's the problem?

If Hatton doesn't make it to the very top, well so be it, I for one enjoy watching him fight, and like his style of fighting. Not everyone is a slick counterpuncher.

Good post James, I still don't class Hatton quite in the top 5 yet (6th is where I have him). Also, I would add Gatti to that list of people who can replace Tszyu - other than that I agree completely.

I especiallagree with the part concerning Phillips and Mitchell.

U are correct Jamesmcdonnell, :D
Witter was obsessed with fighting Hatton because Ricky was a route he saw to get into contention.
That he doesn't have much of a fan base, and had no profile is his promoters fault.
As a fighter with pride he wants the Britt bragging rights. 8)

Get a tape of the fight and U will see that the Mitchell-Phillips fight wasn’t that close.

Cotto has proven as much as Hatton has with 18 bouts in 3yrs to Ricky’s 34 bouts in 7yrs.
On paper, one can match their quality of opponents man to man.
Neither one should be ranked in the top five without beating one of them.

Slagging the top fighters subjectively does not give one excuse to pass them merit wise.

I have no problem with Hatton making it to the top & for the Britts sake on the forum who have spent so much energy praising him I hope he does.
I just don’t want to see it handed to him without merit.
The same goes for Cotto.

U lose credibility when U slag off a fighter like Corley saying he’s nothing special and never was.
Especially when Hatton refused the invitation to fight him for the WBO title.

Nobody has it in for Hatton, what pissed people off is what Warren’s doing.
He is all talk & no walk, IMO; he cheats the fans with his dream weaving. :(

I agree with U that Lacey & Taylor should step it up too, but I see no one honking horns on this forum like the crystal ball gazing predictions of Hatton.

I will close my long winded post in agreement.
I for one enjoy watching Hatton fight, and like his style of fighting. Cheers to his fans & wish them the best in his fight with Pinto.

The whole 140 division is overrated...if you go by who has fought who.The only person to continually fight at the top level is the russian/aussie.
People badmouth Hatton for fighting no-one`s or has beens..but you look at the records of the other "rated" fighters and explain to me what the difference is between Hatton and all the other top guy`s(apart from Tsyzu).Maybe a few more fights?...but if you have fragile skin and can get 15000 people watching you..your gonna make the the money, right?.

I really hope Hatton fights the top guys...and wins...i wonder what the Americans will come up with, when that happens.

Bloody hell mate, I think someone has spiked yer Fosters light.
You say Hatton is unproven and overhyped - then bring up the name Cotto?!
So............can you enlighten us as to who exactly Cotto has beaten to make your exalted list?
And Spaddy is now a proven light welter as well is he?

I think you're just feeling left out cause you aint got any decent light welters in Oz.

And if Tszyu is an Aussie, I'm a Dutchman :D :D

The reason I rate Hatton highly, is that he is effective at winning rounds, his style is perfect for doing so, but more than that, he actually has very good boxing skills when he needs them.

Watch how he used the jab to keep Tackie of Balance, and note how rarely he got tagged with solid shots to the head.

If you watch the fight you will notice that Hatton knew not to focus on the body too much against Tackie, and I think you will find it is the first fight where he threw way more head than body shots.

Hatton has a good jab, and against the bigger bangers, decent, though not outstanding defensive work.

And the point about the top guys level of competition is a relevant one, who has Judah beaten who you would say is a top level fighter?

The difference is between Hatton and all the other top guys is that top fighters have defining wins over previous top ranked fighters at-the-time they were ranked. :o
Not when they were on the slide like Phillips who had only won 5 of his last 10, nor Tackie who never had a defining win.

Because of TV, there are 8 fighters well known internationally besides undisputed champion Tszyu.
Judah, Mitchell, Harris, Gatti, Lejia, Corley, Spadafora and Dorin have all won major titles.
I hate to break it to U guys, but the WBU title means squat outside Manchester.

if you have fragile skin and can get 15000 people watching you..your gonna make the the money, right?.

If U are coming from a business & promoter’s view, U are right.
If U prefer coliseum slaughters enjoy.
As a fan, I perfer to see bragging rights settled with competitive fights. :-?

I really hope Hatton fights the top guys...and wins...i wonder what the Americans will come up with, when that happens.

This American will be very happy and will applaud. :D

Hi chaps, hope you all had a pleasant weekend, nice chat, Ive nailed my colours to the mast on this one, and Blue I understand the concern over whether Hatton will do a "Calzaghe" down to warren.
But I dont think he will. O think the nature of his age and the fact he has had so many fights already will force him to be moved on more quickly (i.e he cant have marking time fights for the rest of his career) he is only 25 and entering the peak of his powers over the next 18 months or so, so now is the time for him to mix it with the big boys. My point is I dont think he has anything to fear from them by the time he fights them. I Hope we will find out in time too!
Jusat perplexes me that people would rather see someone like Spadafora who is blatnetly too lightweight a hitter to trouble hatton, and is coming up through the weight, than a banger like Pinto. To me its a no brainer, I know who I would rather pay to go and see and watch and was thirlled to hear it was Pinto out of the 3 names that were being bandied around.
But Im with James on most of what he has posted, good work fella in my opinion. :D

Sorry but no one in Australia drinks Fosters it tastes like cats piss we send it overseas to you lot.
Secondly Cotto had a tremendous Amature career before he turned pro and has had half the fights of Hatton but is already as good or better than Hatton.

VB is bloody awful chemical crapola. I find most Aussie beer pretty disgusting to be honest. Toohey's, Boag's is it? All of them are pretty rank.
