Gareth, do you still think Murray will fight Gorman? Andy is now 12-0 and i can only see him pressin onto big things...
Hyland show is next week, and Reecy and (Jim rock lol) said he'd have a wee rest now for a few weeks and be out end of May (theres a few shows lined up for the end of May in Ireland). I don't think Hyland has the money for Murray on the card.

I personally dont think Murray Gorman will happen anytime soon, but Gorman would disagree with that, he wants the fight and is gutted that he got injured.

I think that Murray will try to press on with bigger things and possiblt move towards the British/Euro scene (possibly to avoid this rumoured Fagan bout). If thats the case maybe Murray would give up his Irish Title and allow Fagan and Gorman to fight for it.

Gorman fought Walsh in Cork for the Welterweight title and lost by just one point (also have a KD on the final bell disallowed). There is a chance that Gorman might go up a weight again to fight Walsh again. This would be at the promoters request not Gormans. but as James has said before he'll fight anyone, line them up and he will try his best to knock them down.
That's interesting. Do you think Murray is a bit weary of the Fagan fight? As I said before, I don't know who'd win between the two. I guess Murray might be favorite going into it, but he'd be in for a nightmare night. I really think Fagan would stop him late. He might be right to avoid Oisin. And sure, if he can avoid that possible fight and still get bigger fights on the Euro level it would be better for him to lose in a big money fight than to lose a low-scale pay-day with Fagan.
From what I can tell Team Murray, are confident about Andy's abilities and they think he would beat Fagan hands down. I'm just (personally) somewhat unsure of the possible outcome of a Murray v Fagan bout. I haven't seen Fagan in a while but from what I remember about him, he was always a very very come forward fighter who likes to fight on the inside and apply great pressure. I feel that Murray doesnt cope great with pressure and this throws him off his fight plan.

I debated this very bout with Murrays coach Brian McKeown and he told me that he was 100% sure Murray would beat Fagan and that i was talking out my **** lol. In the end we agreed to disagree.

Financiallly Murray is better off moving up in level and forgetting about Fagan, Gorman etc. Those guys will still be there if things don't work out elsewhere.

Anyone else think DeJesus should have been a Brazilian soccer player and not a boxer? Such an embarrassing display of rolling around the place...

Whatever about moving up, Andy needs a couple of ten rounders at this level, he's never boxed ten rounds.

I thought he was going to put on a show last night, he's hitting harder now and he was going to tear the Brazilian apart before the "low blow"...

Mick Dowling said afterwards that Murray is ready to jump not one but a few levels and I agree.

You've said on here before Gareth that you feel Murray will ony reach around British standard but I honestly feel he's a very, very exciting talent. He will go a long way in my opinion, I've always rated him extrenely highly since amateur days and afer the most rotten run of luck imaginable, he's finally making progress.

I would stay away from Fagan, whie I would take Andy to beat him, it's too dangerous a fight for less of a purse than he could make heading upwards.

As a matter of interest, what would Murray have made on a fight like last night's and what could he make at European level? Just curious, I havent a clue!

I would imagine we will see th Cavan man headining a show in the next 6-9 months...

Its been a real turn around in these last few months for Murray.

He was on the MIA list for a good period through injury and I even started to think he might have packed it in.

He has kept really active and been show cased on RTE a few times now. Good work by his management team IMO.

Great for the lad, and great for boxing in his local area - c'mon Cavan! :box: :TU:

I criticised his management in the past but they're getting him the fights now, to their credit...

Or to Micky H's credit I should say :TU:

From what I've heard, Murray has sparred a lot of the top English guys in London and reckons he's fit for them all, as does his people.

He's supposed to have made bits of Peter McDonagh, though I am open to correction here (I heard this ages ago so i could have it arseways now)...

He's clearly ambitious, he could have hung around for Beijing but he was courageous enough to turn pro when there was nothing happening here, he's making waves and fair play to him.

Gareth, what do you treckon is Gorman's best weight??

For the first question, It will vary from fighter to fighter (how many tickets they can sell or draw a crowd) and promoter to promoter. as for exact figures I wouldm't even hazzard a guest. If a boxer got "X" for an RTE Irish title fight, I would expect a them to get "2X or possibly 3X" for a European fight but again that would need to be a decent opponent and also have Sky or Setanta coverage rather than just RTE. I have no idea what Murray would make for those recent fights, and to be honest even if I did know I doubt I'd post it on a forum either lol.

Gormans best weight, Gorman can still make lightwelter easily and keeps the power as he loses the weight. James will fight anyone and if if means keeping a little fat on he will. Light welter is his best weight but the fights here are hard to come by so an extra 5lbs doesnt bother him if he get s a decent paycheck.

Look I dont know how much he got but I know this much he would not have gotten more than €5,000 tops, I'd say he got €2,000 for the fight, theres not as much money in irish pro boxing as you think. When Andy starts headlining shows in about 9 months time he'll really start earning. What he needs to build up a fan base so that promoters can feel confident that by him headling he can fill a venue. I'd pay good money to watch Andy fight

But when you're talking about a "step up" and getting a good "10-rounder" behind him, Andy may need someone like Fagan to bring him to the next level.

I agree to a point but a hammering for 10 rnds from Fagan maybe isn't the best opponent. A ore technicial boxer more skillful and just not as come forward and brawl.

IMO... it would be a battering with a good chance of a loss for Murray. Fagan doesn't stop coming- mad tough!

Some very interesting views chaps.

I can confirm Andrew has sparred with many of the top guys over here and lets just say he has more than held his own with all of them.

Andrew has had several great workouts with Kevin Mitchell and maybe getting in with Colin Lynes and Nicky Cook could take him to another level.

Keep the coments coming guys,

All the best,Reesy and Jim Rock. Ha Ha.

Never mind lightweights get him back in there with Gorman

I think Earl would be a blinding fight. Granted earl is probably done now but I reckon he'd suit Andy down to the ground.

Maybe a few Europeans first at that weight then onwards and upwards.

Tom Glover is another that I wouldn't mind seeing Andy in with.

you've also got the Hyland fight too, now that could be a barn stormer, and sell some serious tickets in dublin too, though Paddy would want to promote it I'm sure.

BTW still working on getting that fight for you, not having much luck though.

Gareth.

I very much think Andy can go very very far, but I'd like to see him in a few tough 10 rounders before he's against any massive names. So on that front i'd like to see him against someone like Craig Docherty or someone like that. I'm sure he's well capable of blowing these guys away but maybe doing things gradually could be best. What do you thing? Which possible names are in line??

I'd like to see him take the Irish title from that joker McDonagh.

After that, I think he could go back to light welter and give Pretty Boy Floyd a going over! :P

In all seriousness Ressy, where do you see Andy being at in 12 months time?

Scottish trio of Craig Docherty, Barry Morrison, Ricky Burns (possibly for the Celtic title) or Scott Lawton - or even our own Dean Byrne!

Fights with McDonagh,Earl or maybe even Gomez would be good for Andy, although i dont think McDonagh would be interested on account of their sparring sessions, but Gomez and Earl might be a possible.
I think some of the other guy`s mentioned could also be good tests for Andy and in a years time maybe he could be heading a bill in Ireland and taking the kind of step up in class just taken by Macklin and McCloskey.

Nobody has mentioned the fella from Bolton,What do you think chaps?

Thank`s for trying for that fight Gareth, thought it would be a longshot.

I suggest walking prior to running!

Gomez would be a good shout assuming he finishes off McDonagh in May.

Would you really give Andy a chance against someone like Khan at this stage?

How highly do you rate him Reesy?

Yeah we were trying to be serious about opponents

Murray and Khan just aren't in the same bracket yet. I'm not a big fan of Khan's but at the same time I think Andy needs to move to the weight get comfortable with it and progress through it. You can't mention Khan in the same sentence with out laughing really at the minute. Andy has had a long spell away from the ring due to injury and this would be a ridiculus fight anytime within the next 12-18 months. If Murray was to be fighting every month at light weight and working his way up possibly a fight in 18 months but again how long will Khan be a light weight ? I reckon no more than another 2-3 fights.
