I think every single red blooded Englishman should go to Russia for 2 weeks and if he is truly blessed - stay there for a year at least! 8)

We didn't invent football or boxing, our language is based in German and Dutch and the empire wouldn't have been poosible without the Irish and Scots.

The Scots partook in empire building so vocifeously because they had a
bee in their bonnet about conquering the world - the reason why the unification with England came about was because the Scots knew the English had the worlds best navy and the Scots wanted part of the action, their attempts to unify with France came to nothing - down to geogrpahical difficulties more than anything else.

Mind you - the English had nothing to do with it did they? They were all sat on their arses drinking tea and playing cricket wasn't they? It's like now... no working class English soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan... they are all Scottish!

Besides nothing to do why most English women fail to hit the mark! 8)

Dutch has nothing to do with English. English is a combination of Old Briton, Anglo-Saxon (Norse), French, German and Latin.

I can see where Ebeneezer is coming from James I think the most closely related language to English is Frisian which is a language in the north west of Holland but the similarities between the two languages were erased long ago - though it is said that the old fishermen from Great Yarmouth can understand their counterparts in Friesland - Don't know if it is true though!
