predictions on Hopkins tactics?

Post by Mensa07 »

I was thinking today on the Winky fight, how instead of trying to walk him down like a lot of his opponents have Bernard stayed off, forcing Wink to come out his shell and open up a little. Then, with the Wink defence unlocked, Nard hit him up with hooks and counter rights.

It seems obvious to say Joe has never faced anyone like Bernard, but to expand on that has Joe ever faced anyone who has tried to shut him down tactically, tried to negate Joe's offence?
Or so far have all his opponents turned up thinking their normal fight style would be enough, not paying or unable to pay too much regard to Joe's strengths and weaknesses?

Maybe just pre-fight jitters, I'm growing more concerned though by exactly how good, tactically at least, Hopkins is. And how much a fighter with his nous is 'new ground' for Joe.

going back to the Topic anyway, I think people are kind of expecting a fight with Joe swarming and Hops spoiling and saving energy.
I think Hops will switch it up, I think he's gonna attack fast and early, with workrate. I think he'll look to throw Joe off by attacking early, get the early rounds in the bag and look for holes in JC's defence.
Then as the fight progresses, reduce the output, let Joe lead and hold/butt/smother, and just look to exploit the holes he picked up earlier with snappy one-shot counters. Taking enough rounds all in all to get the W.

Anyone got any other thoughts on Bernards possible tactics?

cheers :box:
