I looked through Michaels record, and i think it was Al Carter. It's shown as an MD and at Dallas Brooks hall which all ring a bell. Tried to find footage on u-tube, but was unable.

Barry was a lightweight for the last 10 years before going down to 130. Recently i saw a documentary about it and nobody thought Barry could make 130 after so many years at 135

Rocky Lockridge sure did a number on Barry in his last fight huh?

Jerome Artis was an American lightweight Michael beat in 1984 at Port Melbourne Football Ground in a ten rounder. Michael had a lot of boxing behind him when Lockridge beat him to take his IBF Super featherweight title.

I don't remember this fight at all

I was a bit surprised that Barry didn't have a rematch with Lester as it would have been just as big if not bigger than the first fight. IMO Lester would have beaten him in a rematch. For the first fight he was all hyped up from the BS that Barry was spinning, and he learnt a lot that night about the psychological importance of the fight game

It was fairly early. Artis was a 50% fighter, won as many as he lost. I was just looking for African Americans.

Lester Ellis's life got a bit strange after Michael beat him. You should try to get hold of his autobiography, "Fighting the Demons, the Lester Ellis story." It is from ABC Books.

One of my daughters gave it to me for Christmas last year. Lester is a very complex character.

I heard, via a non-boxing sports comentator, that Fenech v Nelson was also spoken about.

I hope this is just baseless rumour.

Nelson will be 50 in September. His last fight was in 1998 when he lost to Jesse James Leija in a bid for an IBA title.

Nelson is a national hero in Ghana. I doubt that he would endanger his status with a meaningless comeback.

Does anyone seriously want to see these once tremendous fighters making complete fools of themselves? I don't. As it is I have a rather nasty memory of Fenech being pummeled silly in 2 rounds by the South African fighter Philip Holiday

Holiday was World Lightweight Champion. Won seven IBF Lightweight Title fights in two years before losing it to Shane Mosley. No disgrace there.

What would have happened had Fenech beaten Nelson in the rematch in '92? (had he been awarded the decision he deserved in their first fight there still would have been a rematch). Fenech was only 28 and still close to his peak in '92

My guess is he goes to lightweight not long after, chasing more titles, which IMO would have been a mistake. The lightweights were simply too big and powerful for someone that started pro as a flyweight

I think if Jeff had been given the decision in the first fight against Nelson he would have defended and retired as a four time champion. He was the first man to win world titles in three divisions without losing a fight. It should have been four.

Like driving past a car crash.....IM NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO STOP MYSELF FROM WATCHING IT!! Still have great memories of watching the first fight on the undercard to TYSON in his invincible years and being gutted with the decision....and then the rematch was that really 16 years ago??? NO WAY!!!

With all these comebacks I'm still holding out for a LEWIS comeback to sort out the HW division...LEWIS V HOLYFIELD 3 anybody??

Give the judges a third shot at getting it right for Lewis and Holyfield...they havent go one right so far !! I'd still like to see Jeff v Kostya in Sydney. Now that would generate some cash for you Jeffery !!!

Fighters (and sportsman in general) sadly get remembered too much for their last performances (eg. footballer Graham Langlands and his white boots in the 1975 rugby league grand final).

Some try to stay in the limelight for too long (eg. Ali) and if they have a shocker, that's the sad memory that remains.
