Well, if we want to see a sport with little skill and just pure agression we have found it, what a load of ass that was!!!
Hopkins did all the cleaner work, made Joe fight at his pace...I was supporting Joe but Im not going to join in with any 'Oh, hes British so its OK 'crap, I love this sport and that was just wrong, whether Joe was from Wales, England or Blood Guatemala!!!

RETIRE - Bernard, Joe Calzaghe & Joe Cortez...
HOPKINS by (spoiler) Dec...
Joe was never in charge, did not hurt BHop and was neutralised as Hopkins usually does. Cortez broke far, far too much. Calzaghe became his expected busierself, but too late in the fight and Bernard caught him with the right hand plenty of times & hurt him at least twice.
I too am sick of Hopkins, he's NO Throughback - they would have destroyed him and during the fight I kept thinking Hagler, Hearns & Leonard would have had an easy night also!
Calzaghe DID NOT DO ENOUGH to win as far as I'm concerned and as many of us that called for this fight 6 years ago, I really believe Joe would have won it then, faster, busier & more determined and would have "changed" the pace of Hopkins spoiler tactics.
RETIRE both of you and take Cortez with you!

Stay off the crack - it sounds like you had a big bet on hopkins so you're bitter.thepocketrocket wrote:Well, if we want to see a sport with little skill and just pure agression we have found it, what a load of ass that was!!!

Hopkins was spoiling, not fighting, faking, sucking the ref's gock. Joe won by three rounds, but admit he didn't box well. Hopkins is the most boring fighter ever

Very dissapointed with the result eevn though i backed Calzaghe to win
Even moreso when I hear Clazaghe say he is a 'legend killer'. After being made to look distinctly average I think he should keep his head down and shut up.
Legend killer. My arse! Really. Thats not what I saw in the fight.
Ironic thing is that if that fight transpired how it did tonight in the UK, I think Hopkins wins. No place for a rematch though

Bollocks! Hopkins tried his best to mug his way through that fight, his tactics worked with the ref (another dire showing from Cortez) but thankfully not the judges. Seriously, how many fouls can one fighter get away with? Calzaghe deserved that decision, he started badly but put in hard work to take the fight down the stretch. Hopkins was looking for a way out with that 'low blow'

sort it out rocket.
u can't defend that negative shit from hopkins.
what was he doing????
the odd lead right hand.
didn't throw a jab all night did he???
calzaghe wasn't getting an awful lot off clean.
but he was coming forward and letting em go while hops was sitting back and tying him up.
calzaghe deserved it ya thick mick.

that bit when he put the nut in on joe was ridiculous.
cortez never even stopped the action and talked to hops about it.
the below the belt stuff late on was ludicrous as well.
hopkins needs to retire if he wants to keep putting in that sort of effort.

Taylor and Calzaghe may have got the nod over BHOP, but neither BEAT him. Neither figured him out.
And 5 years ago - I think Hopkins might have stopped Joe.
Well, Hopkins should have fought him 5 years ago then!

personally i had it 115-114 to hopkins, and that was with joe winning the last 2, i was not happy with the performance from either man and it was not a good advert for world class boxing, yes hopkins spoiled and tried to 'old man' calzaghe out of it, but bhop did land the cleaner work and at no time in the contest was hopkins in any trouble from punches.
joe calzaghe is a very fortunate cookie to get that decision tonight, and in america too. of course the fight was close, but i think the champion did enough in his own back yard. i was rooting for calzaghe but joe seemed to look a little ordinary and unable to cope with hopkins tactics...which hardly came as a surprise, hopkins always uses those tactics !!!

you are severely in th eminority and you clearly know little about boxing.stujones wrote:I know I am in a huge minority - but Joe is 0-1-1 in his last two fights for me.

Calzaghe eeked it just in there tonight, his work rate alone is what won it him, he doesnt have the discipline to stick to what was working in there,
when he was jabbin at mid range and moving in and out he was scoring, but tonight joe looked amateurish at times, I had joe winning by 2 rounds, but i wasnt impressed.
Hopkins is wily and very clever, but he did lose, i was shocked how he seemed to be the puncher in tonights fight.
All in all though, Joe Cortez should not be allowed to referee anymore, the guy is a fool!

It comes down to highly skilled fighters at this level cancelling themselves out which of late throws up less enduring spectacles. The older fighters at this level with pedigree and years of experience seem to have an inbuilt tactical brain not to over commit or take the same risks of younger fighters. It's par for the course.
But I understand the sentiment - it does seem at times that boxing at this level can at times and at this level look like a heavy sparring session over 12 rounds in front of a big crowd touched with celebrity.

in some rds i don't recall hopkins throwing any right hands.thepocketrocket wrote:Oh Hitman, you do realise this is now a fued till next month??? lol
Quality Boxing, ffs when Lennox held when people got inside you described it as 'clever'!! Quit with the hypocricy, bad verdicts trancend the sport and this was awful..but Joe came forward so that makes it OK!!!!
except for little taps in the clinch.
he wasn't using the jab whatsoever.
lennox may have held on in some fights.
but least he sucked it up and let go in fights.
not that sorta cautious shit that hops was coming up with.
Maybe, but are the full ins and out declared on what went on there - have both parties publically aired their opinion?DG. wrote:stujones wrote:I know I am in a huge minority - but Joe is 0-1-1 in his last two fights for me.
