Enzo Calzaghe, strange interview

I was very confused when listening to Enzo's latest rambling, even more so than usual...

When talking about Macc and Rees he was talking about them in the past tense as champs...telling their grandkids ect, like they were retired or would never see that again..should the Worlds greatest trainer be getting them to regroup rather than talking about them as yesterdays men....?

Then he went on to say he had done a great job because he 'gave them the dream'? Didnt they have the dream anyway, what is he talking about???

It did seem rather negative - as though their best days were behind them. It's unlikely Rees will ever be a world champ again, but Enzo should have at least tried to put a positive spin on it. The way Enzo rambles, he'll probably say something completely contradictory next time. He's very entertaining, but I don't think it's worth analysing his utterances too closely!

It was a bit of a silly question, that left him in a predicament.

I think the answer he wanted to say... and what we would all say is... "hey look, Joe is a different animal all together from Enzo and Gavin, far better, far more experienced".... but then he wasn't going to disrespect his other fighters like that.

I'd take anything enzo says with a huge pinch of salt, I don't think he himself knows what he's on about most of the time.

I think he was trying to say just how much of an achievement becoming a World champion is, and that anything else is just icing on the cake. So if they won World titles again it would be icing on the cake, but they've already achieved their dreams (which is winning the belts in the first place).

good translation, perhaps Enzo should go the Capello route and speak Italian with an interpreter with him so he's not misunderstood.

The stick Enzo's come in for lately has been way overboard and a symptom of an unfortunate British trait of revelling in somebody's fall from the top. Fact is Enzo & Rees overachieved under Enzo and you can't ask much more of a coach that that.

I think he's come in for a lot of stick because a lot of folk think he's a nob !
