Oceania Boxing Qualifier - Apia, Samoa - 4/21 - 4/25
Oceania Boxing Qualifier - Apia, Samoa - 4/21 - 4/25
The one qualifier begins today, with only the winner in each weight class advancing to Beijing.
AIBA hasn't posted any info yet, but I believe Australia was able to get two boxers entered at each weight and was attempting to get the field seeded, presumably so that their boxers would not be in the same half of the draw.

I'd type in the day 1 results, but I don't think my fingers can handle all the Polynesian names.

After a missing day of results, AIBA came back and we're on to the finals. Each winner will get a place in Beijing. The Aussies can still book 10 places, only having been eliminated at 81kg, which will be a guaranteed Olympic place for Samoa.

hmm no surpise that Austrailia and Samoa take up most of the finals since they entered 2 people at each weight class. Which I fid extremely unfair. No other qualifier has been allowed to enter multiple participants at a weight class, why is it different here? Is it because all the brackets would be small? Because a lot of the Asian brackets were small. Just my opinion.
Big ups to PNG, 3 finalist

All countries were able to send two fighters at each weight. American Samoa, New Zealand, and Tonga did as well - although they did not have teams the size of Oz or Samoa. I assume this is just to fill out the brackets enough to have a reasonable competition.jtyson wrote:hmm no surpise that Austrailia and Samoa take up most of the finals since they entered 2 people at each weight class.
